    A Place Called Home is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Nutrition SupervisorReports to: Director of Programs FLSA Status: ExemptHours: Full-time (40 hours per week/schedule may vary) Salary Range: $35,000 - $40,000 (annual)Benefits: Competitive health insurance package, paid vacation, and 401K matching plan

    A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs,counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, and fitness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discoverinterests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is to increase thelikelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active citizens capable of makingpositive change in the world in which they live.     SUMMARYPlans, directs, and controls food services of APCH. Works in partnership with Master Gardener on Garden to Table Program andoversees the APCH vocational chef apprenticeship program. The Nutrition Supervisor is responsible for nutrition and dietarycomponents of the fresh and healthy meal program, nutrition education for parents and members, inspiration of APCH members toexplore cooking and eating new foods and expanding their cultural and culinary palates, and the upkeep and constant improvement ofAPCH kitchen facility including:

    Manages department budget in conjunction with Director of Programs Coordinates and participate in the preparation and proper distribution of 200 300 meals and snacks per day. Updates Food Services Menus and meal plans weekly, taking into account seasonal availability, donations and budget Assures that members class attendance and food distribution is tracked properly Orders and inventories all necessary supplies for kitchen area Facilitates and participates in the daily cleaning and maintenance of entire kitchen Assures preparation of food is compliant with dietary and health dept. standards, as well as APCH standards Solicits, tracks, and distributes in-kind food service donations, including issuing receipts and preparing detailed reports Creates and maintains weekly, monthly and quarterly calendar of food services activities Submits appropriate paperwork and reports in a timely and efficient manner Caters brown-bag lunch programs for field trips and program related and fundraising events, as needed Supervises catered special events (i.e. Thanksgiving, Fathers Day, Barbeques, etc.) Knows time and temperature relationships associated with appearance and palatability of food per regulations Tracks and

    documents temperature controls Implements meal service principles that preserve food quality, maintain hygiene, promote efficiency, and enhance serving

    line appearance

    Manages employee, volunteer teams, and independent contractors to fulfill department goals Facilitates and leads cooking classes to teach members and parents principles of nutritional values and healthy eating

    lifestyles and creative, engaging approaches to cooking

    Oversees the APCH-Patina-Santee Chef Apprenticeship program including recruitment and training of potential candidates,coordination of schedules with collaborative partners, planning and evaluation of apprentices and program

    Collaborates with instructor(s) and members involved in the Garden to Table program to choose and plan garden crops, growfresh herbs, and plan and create meals using APCH harvests

    Maintains daily composting program for APCH garden Has knowledge of organic and unadulterated ingredients and cooking methods Trains and develops members, parents and community volunteers to assist in food preparation Manages food safety and sanitation using HACCP principles as a guide Evaluates menus for cost, nutritional content, customer acceptability, equipment demands, time requirements, and labor needs Knows and develops methods for communicating food and nutrition standards and measurements to staff Researches, develops and implements alternative and enhanced Nutritional updates

    Education/Training/ExperienceBachelors degree in culinary arts or similar field (equivalent experience accepted)SafeServ Certification

    Knowledge of best practices in food service /Training and proficiency in various culinary disciplinesMinimum of 2 years experience in food services and staff managementInterest in/basic understanding of organic, sustainable vegetable and herb gardening

    Physical and Mental Demands

    Able to work in dynamic, high noise level environment typical of a youth center Walking, standing for several hours per day Lift up to 30 pounds regularly Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity sufficient for standard face to face and telephone communications Able to prepare detailed reports and conduct evaluations Must be willing to work flexible schedule and weekends for events Must work well with diverse populations of employees and clients
