Glands:  Organs that produce a secretion.

Villi:Hairlike projections in the small intestine where absorption of nutrients takes place

Peristalsis:Alternate waves of relaxing and contracting of the muscular wall of the digestive tube.

Sphincter:Valve like structure that prevents fluids from backing up.

Vertebrates: Have 1 way digestive system with long small intestine where absorption takes place (s. I. to blood.)Gastric makes reference to stomach (gastric juice)• In the intestine villi increases contact surface for absorption • A villus contains capillaries to absorb sugars, amino acids, nucleotides, vitamins, minerals and water. • They  also contain a  Lacteal, which is a lymph vessel that   absorbs fatty acids and glycerol.
