We work closely with other departments and key staff across the school and have had positive feedback on the benefits of the provision from students, parents, staff and outside agencies within the Local Authority since the department was established in 2009. Why does the school invest in a Nurture Provision? As a school we believe that every student should have the opportunity to access a broad and balanced curriculum whilst allowing provision for addressing the individual needs of students. We understand the importance of a smooth transition between primary and secondary school and this provision provides a bridge between the two phases for some of our more vulnerable students. Some students within the provision are working at age appropriate levels, in terms of the National Curriculum, but thrive in a smaller class environment whilst other students require the opportunity to accelerate their learning. Through a consistent approach, careful tracking of progress and regular contact with parents / carers, students are enabled to make the progress that they require academically, emotionally and socially. Personalised learning programmes are tailored to meet individual student needs and learning strategies can be established in order to support students as they progress through the school. The provision is situated within the heart of the school and provides opportunities for students to acquire specific learning skills according to their individual needs and to make the academic progress necessary to equip them for future life.

The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College

Nurture Provision/ Transition Support Department

The Nurture Provision / Transition Support Department provide teaching for students who

require additional support academically, socially or emotionally across Key Stages 3 and 4.

The provision is flexible and meets the changing needs of students enabling pupils to join or

leave the provision throughout the course of the year.

Year 7 students, who have been identified as requiring the continuity of approach that one

teacher can provide, receive teaching for nine hours a week through small group and

personalised learning programmes delivered within a small mixed ability class. Students are

taught by specialist teachers and staff and the department has a suite of two classrooms

which provide a base for the students. The curriculum is tailored to meet individual needs

and each student, through carefully differentiated work, is enabled and challenged to reach

their potential. One of our designated rooms has ICT equipment so that students have

ready access to a range of facilities to support their learning.

Students who require additional English and maths teaching in subsequent years receive

lessons in small groups according to their individual needs. In order to provide the learning

and teaching environment to meet the specific needs of pupils, students can join classes

within the department throughout the year as their individual needs dictate. We work closely

with other departments and key staff across the school and have had positive feedback on

the benefits of the provision from students, parents, staff and outside agencies within the

Local Authority since the department was established in 2009.

Why does the school invest in a Nurture Provision?

As a school we believe that every student should have the opportunity to access a broad

and balanced curriculum whilst allowing provision for addressing the individual needs of

students. We understand the importance of a smooth transition between primary and

secondary school and this provision provides a bridge between the two phases for some of

our more vulnerable students.

Some students within the provision are working at age appropriate levels, in terms of the

National Curriculum, but thrive in a smaller class environment whilst other students require

the opportunity to accelerate their learning. Through a consistent approach, careful tracking

of progress and regular contact with parents / carers, students are enabled to make the

progress that they require academically, emotionally and socially.

Personalised learning programmes are tailored to meet individual student needs and

learning strategies can be established in order to support students as they progress through

the school.

The provision is situated within the heart of the school and provides opportunities for

students to acquire specific learning skills according to their individual needs and to make

the academic progress necessary to equip them for future life.
