Opportunities Advancement

Persons interested in applying to the nursing programshould contact the Nursing Program Advisor at oneof the four colleges in the IECC District.

Space is limited, so completed applications must bereceived at the college site by February 15 to beranked for the fall semester. Late applications will beaccepted pending available space. The followingrequirements will be necessary to secure a seat inthe program:

• Cumulative GPA of 2.5• CNA Certification• Acceptable scores on the college placement • exam

Note: a Proficient score must be achieved on theTest of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) for a studentto be eligible to rank. Contact the Program Advisorfor information and any questions.

Nursing is a profession where evidence-basedpractice combines with the art of caring. Nursing is aninteraction based on the nursing process that assists aperson to meet their basic needs through promotingand maintaining wellness, restoration or optimalhealth and/or support of the person through thedying process. Caring is an inherent part of thisprocess. The role of the program graduate is toprovide and manage the patient-centered care ina variety of healthcare settings and to be an activemember within the profession of nursing.

The IECC OCC nursing curriculum offers opportunitiesfor students to obtain additional certifications andlicensures by completion of specific competencies.Students successfully completing the first year andsummer coursework may be eligible to sit for thepractical nursing licensure exam (-----PN). This will helpthe student as they transition into the second year tocontinue their studies to be eligible to take the regis-tered nursing licensure exam (NCLEX-RN).

The IECC OCC Associate Degree NursingProgram believes in seamless progression andsupports articulation and educational mobility innursing. The program has many articulationsagreements with RN-BSN programs andparticipates in the statewide articulation initiative.

The program is approved by the IllinoisDepartment of Financial and ProfessionalRegulation (IDFPR) at www.idfpr.com. Theprogram has full accreditation through theAccrediting Commission for Education inNursing (ACEN) located at 3343 PeachtreeRoad NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326,www.acenursing.org.

The PN exit is approved by IDFPR.
