EYP
O ur nursery learners are
inquiring into the central idea “We
understand more about ourselves
everyday”, under the
transdisciplinary theme ‘who we
are’. Students went to K1 class and
spoke about balance lifestyle which
included healthy eating habits,
health and hygiene; good touch -
bad touch, and how exercise can
help individuals. This gave a clear
evidence of their newly developed
communication skill. They also sang
some rhymes related to the unit eg.
What are my eyes for, Head
shoulder knees and toes, kagaj ki
gudiya, etc.

EYP K1-A ‘FEW AND MANY’ CONCEPTS
T he conceptual learning of
‘Few & Many’ was made a fun filled
learning engagement for the K1-A
students. They were introduced to
this concept through hands on
activity, well thought of by the
teacher. This activity made the
concept clear and learning more
meaningful.

EYP K2 - TAKING ACTION
T aking action is one of the
five essential elements of the PYP
and an intricate part of the inquiry
cycle. When taking action, students
make connections to new
knowledge they have acquired and
apply their skills in everyday life.
K2 learners were inquiring into the
central idea “People play different
roles in the communities to which
they belong”. Through this unit they
understood the role of individuals in
the development of a society. At the
end of the unit students decided to
make ‘THANK-YOU CARDS’ for the
community helpers within their
school community in order to
express their gratitude for the
services provided by them.
Certainly a beautiful way to end the
unit, giving evidence of ones
learning.

EYP CONCEPT HALF, FULL AND EMPTY
L earning pre-Mathematics concepts is important for young children. It makes them
explore and develop an understanding of the world around them. It is a tool that we
use in everyday life to sort, count, measure and analyze. Keeping this in view, the concept
of “Half, Full and Empty” was introduced to the students of K2-B.
Students understood the concept of ‘Half, Full and Empty’ through the story ‘The Thirsty
Crow’. An interactive hands on activity, planned by the teacher was well thought of and
this made learning engaging and exciting for students.

PYP DOODLE ART
A doodle is a drawing made while a person's attention is otherwise occupied. Doodles
are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be
composed of random and abstract lines. There are numerous theories that state doodling
helps the mind to relax.
On 10th October, 2019; Mental Health Day: students of Grade 1 experienced the world of
calmness by drawing their favourite things and expressed themselves through doodling.
They enjoyed making their own creations and spent some blissful time in the art room.

PYP FIELD TRIP TO GHOLVAD
G rade 5 students along with teachers went on an overnight trip to Treat Beach Resort and Spa at Gholvad. This was organized by M/s. Adventure Tours. Students did activities both outdoors and indoors. They learnt to be tolerant, compassionate and cooperative. During the visit to the agricultural farm, they were fascinated to see how rice, drumsticks, chickoo, mangoes are planted and cultivated.
The visit to the balloon factory was interesting too for the students. At the resort, they played games like Scavenger Hunt, which was a good stimulant. The Navratri fever was caught even at the resort, where they danced to their heart’s content. The food was sumptuous and so was the stay at the resort. The bus journey was comfortable too. Overall, the trip was a great learning experience for all.
Reflection
I liked the overnight trip because it was better than the last year. I felt happy because we did
many learning activities. We visited balloon factory, beach and the agricultural farm. In the
hotel too, we did many activities like Scavenger hunt, DJ party etc. I would love to visit Gholvad
again. I had a lot of fun. - Jinil 5B

MYP/DP A LOSS CAN BE A GREAT GAIN
I llnesses and diseases can instil so much fear that it can hurl a person into the deepest of
labyrinths. I have witnessed my grandfather being thrown into one when he was diagnosed with
cancer. Fortunately he decided to fight his way up. It was a testing period for him and the family.
He struggled with fatigue and taste loss. Hair loss was another very visible and apparent fall out
of the treatment. It led to a lot of embarrassment.
My grandfather’s plight set me thinking about cancer patients especially the young ones who
tend to retreat into a shell due to hair loss. Buying a good wig is an expensive option as very few
donate their crowning glory. This set me thinking on these lines and I decided to give up my hair
to ease the life of some cancer patient. I must confess that it was not an easy decision to make
but I knew I had to do it.
The whole process involved a certain procedure. You may donate a certain length of hair (around
12 inches) to your chosen organization, and that will be used to create a wig. I began to
condition and care for my hair, so that it would grow and fast enough. I must say I was a little
insecure about cutting my hair very short as I thought it would affect my looks. Moreover, I never
wore short hair before. Filled with apprehensions, I grew my hair really long. There were times
when my patience gave way and I wanted to just go ahead and snip it off or times when I
thought I would never grow enough to donate. However, something deep within, my resolution
perhaps, kept me going. I also saw one of my juniors, Hea Khemani, from PYP, donate her hair.
Then there was no going back.
When the time neared for me to chop off my hair, surprisingly the fear of short hair no more
frightened me. In fact I felt proud and wonderful that I was going to do something noteworthy.
As I sat on the chair and watched the final strand being snipped off, a feeling of relief and peace
overcame me.
Now, I am not ashamed of my short hair. In fact, I feel that everyone should donate their hair if
they can. Because who knows, that little effort you take, can make someone really happy.
