53% oF brazilian hoMes have at least one pet, says surveyAccording to a survey* released on September 17th more than half of the households in Brazil have at least one pet (dog, cat or other). The survey shows that 53% of homes have dogs and / or cats, 1% of homes have other pets and 46% do not have pets.The survey was carried out with 2002 people from all over the country. Of these, 95% stated that the pet’s health was as important as the health of a family member. Amongst those who have pets, the majority* are families with children. According to the survey 43% of those people who own a dog were given the pet as a present.

On September 27th, the electoral campaign for the municipal elections of 2020 began. As from that date, candidates for the positions of mayor, deputy-mayor and local councilor can begin to advertise their campaign and ask for votes. In all, 548,230 applications were registered across the country.

With 8,106 fires recorded between the 1st and the 30th September 2020 in the Pantanal, a tragic historical record for a single month was set. The previous record had been in August 2005 with 5,993 fires. The data has been collected by the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) since 1998.

On September 14th the Federal Police launched* an investigation into possible environmental crimes related to the fires. It is thought that the fires may have begun on farms that use fire to clear away the vegetation for pasture*.

In Japan, Gundam Factory is building a giant robot that moves by itself. The model is 18 meters high (about the height of a seven-story building) and weighs 25 tons.
