SINGAPORE: Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Italianbased aerospace firm Finmeccanica signed a memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) on Thursday morning (Feb 18) to set upSingapore’s first research centre for helicopter production andtechnology.
The fiveyear deal aims to expose both undergraduate and postgraduate students to hightech aerospace development andexpand Singapore’s research in the area.
Projects will focus on rotary wing technology, including using newcomposite materials to build helicopters, and aerodynamicsmodeling to improve overall flight performance.
“We are happy to join forces with NTU in such complextechnological field,” said Managing Director of Finmeccanica’shelicopter division, Daniele Romiti. “During the course of 2016, weplan to evaluate these opportunities, establish a plan for researchactivities and define the structural details of our cooperationthrough the proposed joint technology research centre.”
