ATTENDANCE We have been asked to remind families of the Departments policy on attendance and absences, which is as follows: Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

being sick or having an infectious disease having an unavoidable medical appointment being required to attend a recognised religious holiday exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student’s record. We have provided forms for ease of filling out the details for each absence. Unjustified absences can be flagged as a concern with the Department, which may result in a liaison officer becoming involved. In addition all late arrivals, early pick-ups and partial absences must also be recorded into the book on the window ledge in the front office.

Primary

Hello all,

Week two is done and dusted! What a great week we have had here in the primary class. We are just starting a short unit on mass in mathematics. To engage students we made estimates of the weight of each student in the class. There was a lot of discussion backwards and forwards on this topic. We then weighed all students and recorded the results in a table. This proved to be an enjoyable activity with many laughs had by all! I was surprised at the accuracy of some of our estimates, and on several occasions the estimates matched the exact weight recorded! In English we have been focusing on our writing skills again as this encompasses other areas within the English curriculum. For this, we had an interesting lesson around writing a narrative based on a picture of some astronauts on Mars. We ended up a little off task at stages talking about Elon Musk and his plans to send people to Mars in the near future, and the logistics surrounding the mission. After a discussion, and a few videos on the topic, we wrote our narrative pieces with some impressive results. This should particularly help the students who are sitting the NAPLAN tests next week.

I’d like to make a special mention to all the students who participated in the cross country at Bribbaree. It was great to see how hard everyone tried in their respective races! I’d also like to thank everyone who has donated to and helped in kitchen/garden. Without your help this would not be possible so thank you very much.
