importance of organ donation and how one can be a donor.
Organ donation is giving an organ to help someone who needs a transplant. This is a medical
procedure in which organ is removed from one body and placed in the body of a recipient, to
replace a damaged or missing organ. This donation can be of two types:-
1. ORGAN DONATION
2. BODY DONATION
Organ donation is for the replacement of organ to save someone‟s life and body donation
is for research purpose for medical students.
One can donate following organs:-
Kidney
Liver
Heart
Pancreas
Eyes
Lungs
Skin
In India number of donors is very low as compared to other countries-
USA: 26(Lac)
France:17
India: 0.8<1 that‟s the no. of donors in India.
The total no. of kidneys needed every year is 200000 whereas no. of transplants is 8000 only.
One can donate their organs just 6-7 hours before death or after brain dead.
4
Rotary club organised a event in the advent of creating organ awareness, pledging organs, which
is the need of hour. They have arranged an awareness program and appealed everyone to help
them in that by registering on www.giftlife.co.in and pledge organ between 11:00 am to 7:00 pm

INDEPENDENCE DAY
Report
It was a red letter day in the history on India when the country got her freedom on August15,
1947. It took hundreds of years for us to break shackles of slavery. It has been 72 years since our
independence and we have come a long way.
Even after 72 years there are so many beautiful things in our country that we should always
cherish as Indians. We still live the concept of “Unity in Diversity” with diverse language,
culture and region.
And the most astounding fact about our country is we have 325 spoken languages and 18 official
languages. We live in harmony with over 8 religious and celebrate each festival with love.
And to oblige the badge of respect to our nation the NSS Team of IMED (Institute of
management and entrepreneurship development, Pune) has organized Independence Day on 15th
August, 2018 to give a tribute to our nation and the freedom fighters.
The event started at 7am with its most gracious essence as our Director sir Dr.Sachin.S.Vernekar
hosted the flag as the sense of integrity and peace. About 60 teachers and 80 volunteers were
present for flag hosting.
After this moment the celebration was continued with singing of patriotic song “AYE WATAN
WATAN MERE AABAD RAHE TU” and oath on “CLEAN INDIA” which blazed the
enthusiasm of everyone.
At the college entrance there was Rangoli which was made by the NSS volunteers which makes
the event more beautiful and which was like cherry on the cake.
The day went well with lots of praises and pride for NSS Team as coordination can be seen
throughout the event and everything was managed in an organized way.

DONATION FOR KERALA FLOODS VICTIMS
REPORT
“It’s a relief to hear the rain, it’s the sound of billions of drops, all equal, all equally committed to
falling, like a sudden outbreak of disaster. Water, when it hits the ground, instantly becomes a
puddle or rivulet or flood”
One such disastrous flood arises in the God‟s own country renowned for spices: famously known
as Kerala. This city was joyfully grinning into success paving waves for education, prosperity
and development hardly do they know that unusual monsoon surrounding their beautiful city.
It was in late July when due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season , a severe
flooding affected Kerala immensely.
Over 373 people died while at least 280,679 people were evacuated within a fortnight.
It was reported that Kerala received heavy monsoon on the mid evening of August 8 resulting in
dams filling to capacity and flooding local low-lying areas. It was for the first time in the history
when 35 out of the 40 dams were opened.
This flood resulted into destruction of the whole city impacting the lives, infrastructure and
conditions of all the people.
Destruction was seen to the level that people cannot even manage to get food or any surviving
necessity for them.
And for such destruction Poona College of Pharmacy in collaboration with Institute of
Management And Entrepreneurship Development took an initiative to help the Kerala flood
victims by donating them with their necessity material.
For this, a “KERALA FLOOD RELIEF CAMPAIGN” was organized in the premises of
Poona College of Pharmacy on 19th
August, 2018 i.e. Sunday.
Though the information was received at the last moment still all the NSS Volunteers under the
guidance of Dr. Vijay Phalke (IMED,BVDU) were ready to perform this activity with full of
energy and enthusiasm.
The event started around 8am in the morning and around 50 NSS volunteers participated in this
event.
There were 4 teams made out of these volunteers who visited the different areas around college
and collected all the necessity material like medicines, clothes, food, snacks for donation.
11
An example of humanity could be seen because all the people were ready to help the victims to
their great extent by donating as much as they can either through money or by providing
materials.
All the volunteers put all their efforts so as to collect as much material as they can. Not only
collection but the volunteers were also seen donating from their side for the victims.
12
The collection and donation continued till 6pm in the evening after which segregation of &
separation of materials started so that all the donated material could be packed well and
transported for the Kerala victims.
The event ended around 8pm the evening after transportation of all the material.
Thus we were able to complete this event successfully only because of the volunteers, college
students and local people living near college.
It was appreciating on the part of all the volunteers and organizing committee who took this
initiative to help the Kerala flood victims through relief campaign.

GANDHI JAYANTI WEEK
VISIT TO AGA KHAN PALACE
REPORT
Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi did a lot for our country. But today we are
forgetting his struggles. So, to memorize his contribution and give him tribute on
his birthday, our Bharati Vidyapeeth deemed University, Institute of Management
and Entrepreneurship Development, Pune organized a visit to Aga Khan Palace on
2nd
October 2018 for all NSS volunteers.
In the pleasant morning at 9:30am around 50 NSS Volunteers reported there along
with our faculty member Mrs. Pallavi Chopade. This palace was closely linked to
Indian freedom movement, as it served as prison for Mahatma Gandhi, his beloved
wife Kasturba Gandhi & his secretary Mahadev Desai. There were paintings of
famous artists and portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. There was the Samadhi of
Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai. We saw belongings like utensils, khadi
clothes, meeting table and many more things of Mahatma Gandhi which is kept
there as his memory. There was guide who helped us to know deeply about that
place. We gathered lots of information from there, about life of Mahatma Gandhi.
This palace was made by Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan to give employment
to villagers who constructed this palace. And still today it gives employment to
women; provide training for small works, which helps them to get their future
earnings. This place also promotes women empowerment. The main motto of this
visit was to get awared about Mahatma Gandhi and his beloved ones and give them
a tribute. The visit was really good and was enjoyed by all volunteers. We get to
know a lot about history of our great freedom fighter.
