Try a similar problem (NEW) The OAC also provide extra practice to students in Self-Access Corner through ‘Try a similar problem’. After clicking the link, a problem focusing on certain mathematics skills is given to students. The system will also mark the submitted answer.

Feature Highlights

� Ready-made papers

The ASSESSMENT section of the OAC contains ready-made papers for all chapters in our

NSS Mathematics in Action textbooks (compulsory part). There are consolidated papers which

can be assigned to one or more classes/groups to complete within a specified date range.

� Self-Access Corner

The SELF-ACCESS CORNER is an area where students can do some additional exercises.

Students can create their own exercises of Level 1 or/and Level 2 questions. Each exercise

contains about 10 questions, and students receive instant feedback when they submit the

exercise for marking.

� Show me an example (NEW)

The OAC provides extra guidance to students in Self-Access Corner through ‘Show me an

example’. After clicking the link, a worked example of the mathematics topic is immediately

� Try a similar problem (NEW)

The OAC also provide extra practice to students in Self-Access Corner through ‘Try a similar

Introduction

After obtaining the necessary login information from your Longman sales representatives, you may

login our system at: http://oac.smaths.ilongman.com

The OAC has been designed to be best viewed using a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels. To change

your display settings to the desired resolution, go to the Control Panel of your operating system.

Homepage of the OAC

This Users’ Guide introduces the main features of the OAC and is divided into 4 parts:

A. Assign Assessment (see page L3)

You may assign ready-made papers to students and customize the selected ready-made papers.

B. Change Settings (see page L7)

You can change the settings of the assignments.

C. View Results of Students (see page L8)

You can view results of students and their performance analysis.

D. Self-Access Corner (see page L9)

You can view questions and the results of students on the self-access exercises.

A. Assign Assessment

1. Click the Assign Assessment link in the ASSESSMENT section.

2. A ready-made paper of NSS Mathematics in Action 4A Chapter 1 is set as a default.

From the pull-down menus, you can select different ready-made papers according to the

textbooks and the chapters.

3. Click the ‘Customize’ button below the Preview window. Then, you go to the paper

customization web page.

4. ‘Paper Preview’ window is set as a default in the customization web page.

5. In ‘Paper Preview’ window, you can change the order of selected questions by clicking

‘Up’ and ‘Down’ buttons on the top right corner.

6. Click the ‘Question list’ tab and go to ‘Question list’ window.

There are fill-in-the-blank questions and multiple-choice questions for different chapters.

You can search them through the pull-down menus at the top of the web page.

You can add a new question to the paper by clicking ‘add’ button on the top right corner

of each question.

7. After selecting or customizating the paper, teacher can save the customized paper. And the

saved paper can be loaded thereafter.

8. Click the ‘Assign’ button. Now, select the class you wish to assign the paper to and then

click to move that class into the ‘Selected Classes’ window.

Click for the assessment date and the answers release date accordingly.

9. Teacher can also randomize the order of the questions and give instruction on the message

box.

10. Finally, click the ‘Finish’ button. The paper is automatically sent to students.

B. Change Settings

1. Click the Change Settings link on the ASSESSMENT section.

Click the Change Settings link.

2. Click the Modify link to go to the ‘Change Setting Options’ web page.

3. In the ‘Change Settings Options’ web page, you can change the starting date, the ending

date, the answer releasing date and the time limit of the assignment.

4. Click ‘Finish’ button to apply the changes.

C. View Results of Students

1. Click the View Results link on the ASSESSMENT section.

Click the View Results link.

2. From the pull-down menu as shown, you can list the papers by paper name or class.

3. Click the View links to view the marks, performance analyses of each class and answers

of each individual student.

4. You can export the assessment result to an Excel file.

4. The numbers of exercises submitted by different classes are shown in the table below.

Click the class name (e.g. 4A) links to to view the marks, performance analyses of

answers of each individual student in the class.

5. Click the ‘View Top 10’ button to see the ranking of the top 10 students

and their results.

6. Apart from questions and solutions, links Show me an example and Try a similar problem

are also shown on the papers in student version.
