Background

NSS Discovery is an information system that provides approved users with access to a range of comparative information to support performance and quality improvement. Indicators within NSS Discovery can be viewed by NHS Board of treatment or residence. The information within NSS Discovery can help NHS Boards to review performance, benchmark against peers and identify areas where resources can be targeted to address local health and care needs. We provide support to Health Boards in order to get the most out of the functionality that is available in discovery. This includes providing more detailed analysis and working with different staff groups and creating more useful visualisations and developing additional content that will allow easier and improved monitoring of activity and performance for Health Boards. The information in Discovery combined with local knowledge (of the dataset, topic or context) allows recognition e.g. of patterns, that leads to intelligence which enables strategic choices and decisions to be taken to assist in improving the health and care of the population.
