As the pilot schools for our District we fully implemented the College and Career portions of Family Connection through Naviance with our 2016 Senior Class. We went “all in” as
Naviance was new to all involved – counselors, teachers and students. We were able to have over 90% of all seniors to complete required tasks and college applications
and request supporting documentation through Naviance.

From your district’s Naviance Home Page, select the “Document Manager” from under the Quick Links Menu.

Click “Create new folder” and enter a name for the folder and click to “Share with all students”. This will then add the folder to your district’s Family Connection account.

To add a document to the folder, click “Add new document,” then select the appropriate folder, select the file from your computer and upload the document.

The information I am going to provide is based on the first year of implementation at our school. The tips should be considered but are not necessarily a format that you have to follow. That said don’t just decide you’re going to do it your own way without taking my
advice. FYI: I have mad Naviance skills and have been nicknamed the Naviance Rockstar at Aberdeen High School. If you choose not to pay attention I am not responsible for any angry teachers, crying students, confused staff or the line of people waiting to ask you
questions that may or may not be easy to answer at that exact moment!

Make sure you have 2-3 people at each training. Depending on how you implement your program, there will need to be more that one person who is able to problem solve and answer questions.
Once you decide who will be involved in the program, assign them a role.
Each role will have certain rights depending on what their responsibilities are going to be.

• You want as few confused teachers as possible because that means fewer questions for you!

TIP #3: AS LITTLE INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE
• There is a ton of really cool stuff to do in Naviance, I mean a ton
• Only show each group what they need to know in order to complete their part
• Once they are confident in their skills they can ask for more training or look through things on their own

If you want students to be able to view information when they transfer from one school to another, the tasks will need to be made at district level.
There is so much that Naviance offers. Decide what you want to implement the first year and what can wait for the second year.
Make sure that you set aside support time for the staff.
1 In our school we use the same password and username for Family Connection as we do for Skyward. This way we have access to them if the students forget.
Talk to your technology people and try to get ALL information uploaded before beginning. (course history, student information, test scores, parent information, etc.)
Nothing ever goes as smoothly as we want it to the first time we try. The program is amazing and if you stay positive then soon the staff will see how great it is too.
