1:N protection switching for Gmux-2000 TDM pseudowire and voicecompression modules

Traffic protection capacity of up to 224 TDM streams (16 or 8 protectedmodules)

    Automatic protection

    switching for E1/T1

    and T3 streams

    NPS-101 is a compact, high-density

    carrier-class 1:N protection switching

device. It protects the traffic carried by a

group of N modules installed in

    Gmux-2000 by automatically switching

traffic from a failed to a backup module in

    the chassis.

The unit has a capacity of 16 protection

switching modules and 2 backup modules,

each capable of handling 14 E1/T1 or

    1 T3 streams, resulting in a maximum

traffic protection capacity of 224 streams.

    1:N Protection Switchin Device

The following Gmux-2000 modules can be

    protected:

    Voice compression modules with E1 orT1 ports, VCA-E1/12, VCA-E1/16 andVCA-T1/12, VCA-T1/16

Pseudowire emulation modules withexternal E1 or T1 ports, E1-PW/28/BAL,

    E1-PW/28/UNBAL and T1-PW/28

    Pseudowire channelized T3 module,CT3-PW/1.

    When operating opposite voice

    compression modules, NPS-101 protects

either 12/16 external or two main E1/T1

    links.

As a purely hardware switching device,

NPS-101 does not detect or evaluate any

    criteria for protection switching.

Gmux-2000 determines when switching isrequired, and sends appropriate control

    signals to NPS-101.

    MANAGEMENT

    Gmux-2000 communicates with a

    supervision terminal via double RS-232

port on NPS-101 (DCE and DTE). This

allows controlling and monitoring the unit

even when Gmux-2000 is managed by one

    of the other supported management

    alternatives (Telnet/SSH, SNMP).

    WIDE RANGE POWER SUPPLIES

NPS-101 uses a wide range power supply,

which operates on both AC and DC. The

power supply is located together with theNPS-101 common logic functions in a

    single module. Although a single

    control/PS module is required, two

modules can be installed in the device for

    redundancy.
