Real Time Monitoring Protection and Control of Power Systems Real Time Monitoring Protection and Control of Power Systems 21/05/2018 to 26/05/2018 Scope of the programme Wide area monitoring, protection and control systems (WAMPACs) have been recognized as the most promising technologies to meet challenges of modern electric power transmission systems. The WAMPAC systems have already been deployed in the electricity grids of several countries and has been planned to be deployed in the Indian power grid. Wide area monitoring requires precise synchronized information about voltage and current phasors, frequency and rate-of-change-of-frequencyinformation, which are acquired by deploying Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). Capturing the system dynamics using smart instruments renders large data sets with time stamps and this leads to excessive computational complexity and data dimensionality, particularly with the inclusion of micro grids into the fold to enable distributed generation or safe islanded operations. Objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the principles and key technologies for the real time monitoring, protection, and control of contemporary wide-area power systems. Further, hands-on would be given on Real Time Simulator / HIL Testing / DigSilent Power Factory/ DSpace tools. Under Twinning With Govt. Scope of the programme

Wide area monitoring, protection and control systems (WAMPACs) have been recognized as the most

promising technologies to meet challenges of modern electric power transmission systems. The

WAMPAC systems have already been deployed in the electricity grids of several countries and has been

planned to be deployed in the Indian power grid. Wide area monitoring requires precise synchronized

information about voltage and current phasors, frequency and rate-of-change-of-frequencyinformation,

which are acquired by deploying Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). Capturing the system dynamics

using smart instruments renders large data sets with time stamps and this leads to excessive

computational complexity and data dimensionality, particularly with the inclusion of micro grids into the

fold to enable distributed generation or safe islanded operations.

Objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the principles and key technologies

for the real time monitoring, protection, and control of contemporary wide-area power systems. Further,

hands-on would be given on Real Time Simulator / HIL Testing / DigSilent Power Factory/ DSpace tools.

Dept. of Electrical Engineering

Established in 1961, the Department of Electrical Engineering of the National Institute of Technology

Calicut offers programmes leading to Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree as well as Ph.D. The four year

undergraduate programme leads to the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degree in Electrical and

Electronics Engineering. Specializations for the Master's level programmes are (i) Instrumentation &

Control Systems (ii) Power Systems (iii) Power Electronics and (iv) Industrial Power and

Automation, (v) High Voltage Engineering. In addition to these regular programmes, this

department is also actively involved in conducting faculty development programmes, job-

oriented short-term training programmes, continuing education programmes for engineering

professionals and academic faculty. Department has a number of sponsored projects in different areas

funded by agencies like DRDO, KSCSTE etc.

About GEC, Bharatpur

Government Engineering College (GEC) Bharatpur is an autonomous institute of Goverment of

Rajasthan, under Engineering College Bharatpur Society, Rajasthan, India. GECB was established in

the year 2007. The college has six departments namely Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering,

Electronics& Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science & IT and

Applied Science & Humanities. For details see the website http://www.ecbharatpur.ac.in

About TEQIP III

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) was launched in December, 2002 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India with the World Bank assistance. The programme was conceived and designed as a long term project to be implemented in 10-12 years in 3 phases to support excellence and transformation in Technical Education in the country. Third phase of the programme namely TEQIP III was started in the year 2017 and will be ending in 2020. The main objective of TEQIP III is to improve the quality of Engineering Education in existing government institutions in the educationally backward states and also arrange for twinning them with other institutions like NITs and a few affiliating technical Universities(ATU).
