Masters at theGreat School of

MagicThe masters of the school are describedwith regards to their personality but arenot given stats. It is unlikely that thePCs will want to cross blades with thesepowerful beings and even less likely thatthey should survive.

Master Jaques deMalinbois

AppearanceDe Malinbois looks very old andunhealthy. While he is tall, his back isbent and his hands are almost claws. Hisface has exagerated features and evenwhen he smiles, he tends to looksinister. His movements suggest areptilian spirit, a side effect of his longstudy of Dracology.

PersonalityWhile Malinbois looks like an evil oldman, he is in fact one of the moreresponsible masters of the school.Having heard rumours about a secretsociety using a terrible energy source toenhance their magic, he wants to findthem and stop them from endangeringall Glantrians with their experiments.However, he is very careful in hisinvestigations and there are manyrumours about what his goals might be,ranging from becoming Prince ofNouvelle Averoigne to becoming adragon lord and achievingnear-immortality as a dragon lich.

Master Ilonid di Vendi

AppearanceDi Vendi is a well-tanned abjurer ofimmaculate grooming. He wears hisshort black hair slicked back and sportsa very small midnight-black moustache.His body language is a bit effeminateand speaks of vast vanity.

PersonalityDi Vendi is easily recognized as a veryself-absorbed person. He loves onlyhimself and is somewhat afraid of agingand disease. Despite his cowardlynature, the abjurer is quite ambitiouslooking for no less than eternal youth.

GoalsDi Vendi is obsessed with the idea ofimmortality. He often pays students tolook into different rumours regardingmeans to reach this goal. There is littlehe would not do to reach his goal, a factwhich has caused him to make enemiesamong the other masters, who fear hewill bring a terrible fate upon the GreatSchool.

Master Dimitri Kamparov

AppearanceKamparov is a small, weird-lookingBoldavian with almost purple skin. TheEarth elementalist looks very seriousand aloof while in school but turns intoa maniac during his "soirées". It is scaryto see this gaunt old man turn into ahyperactive cackling master ofceremony.

BackgroundDimitri Kamparov was born as the sonof a Boldavian merchant and a beautifulcourtesan. As an illegitimate son, hespent most of his youth as an apprenticein his father's warehouses until hisenormous talent for magic wasdiscovered by a travelling Geomancer.Kamparov applied for a scholarship atthe Great School and was accepted. Hespent his long career almost entirely atthe school.A turning point in his life came, whenhe found out that the nobility ofBoldavia is almost entirely composed ofvampires. The master, so far known onlyfor his excesses, decided to actindirectly against the vampiric threat.Over the years, he became more andmore involved in the war againstvampires and eventually his goalbecame to free his homeland of the evilblood drinkers.

PersonalityKamparov is known as a gluton, withstrong appetites for food, drink, andyoung students of either sex. The othermasters think of him as a fool thatshould be removed soon but since he isan excellent earth elementalist, theyhave little leverage against him.However, while his decadent reputationis only partially a cover story, there isalso some part of him that is very

dedicated to the cause of eradicating thecurse of vampirism.

GoalsKamparov has little ambition forpersonal advancement. Instead, he wantsto free his beloved home from thedreadful grip of the Vampire nobles. Hekeeps this intention well hidden butlikes to use young wizards as pawns inhis struggle, equipping them withmagical items and supporting them withvital information.

Master Gregor McCallous

AppearanceGregor McCallous is a small man withwild red hair and pale freckled skin. Hisnose is tilted slightly to the left side andhis lower lip is protruding over theupper one. He is very skinny but hisbody language betrays an arrogant andhaughty personality.

BackgroundMcCallous was born in Clantyre into amerchant clan. At an early age, hispotential for magic was realized andMcCallous was sent to train under alocal fire wizard. Unbeknownst to all,the wizard was really a necromancer andthe young apprentice was exposed todark secrets that forever changed hisoutlook on life. At the age of 21 hestarted his studies at the Great School ofMagic, slowly advancing through theranks. Being a careful person, he madefew enemies and eventually became amaster of necromancy, even though oneof his rivals died a mysterious death atthe hand of unknown criminals. Evennow, 10 years afterwards, the othermasters still wonder about Gregor'sinvolvement.

PersonalityGregor McCallous comes from theself-confident middle class and has littlelove for nobles, even though he does nottry to show it. While arrogant andsometimes even haughty towards thoseof lesser skill, McCallous has fewenemies because he always tries to keepon the good side of the other Masters.While a few naive mages believe thatthis is true comrady, it is really a ruse tokeep attention away from his illegalactivities.

GoalsEver since joining the school, the Masterof Necromancy has been involved withthe People's Spellcaster Company,trying to break the nobles' strangeholdon magic use. McCallous sincerlybelieves that everybody should be ableto use magic freely and will supportthose whom he feels have talent.

Master Ryndil Phaerun

Appearance Ryndil Phaerun is a fair elf ofextremely good looks, dressing in theblue robes of a master of waterelementalism. His blonde hair is tiedback in braid.Phaerun's facial expression is usuallyone of great dignity at the beginning of aconversation, but over time, a sardonicsmile appears on his face, as he slowlyforgets his self-imposed role.

BackgroundBaron Ryndil Phaerun is a member ofone of the less influential noble familiesof Erewan.

PersonalityThe Baron is an elf torn betweenextremes. While he tries to live up to therole of the cool-headed elven wizard, hisnatural sense of humour usually winsout, letting him slip into sarcasticcomment and inappropriate jokes.Having spent quite some time amonghumans, he has managed to overcomehis natural disadvantage atunderstanding human emotion and isactively participating in the byzantineintrigues of the Great School.

GoalsPhaerun is a friendly person but is alsovery ambitious. His goal is to replaceEtienne d'Ambreville as Grand Masterof the school and while he is very averseto using force, he is working hard togain a wide range of allies, somethingwhich involves some conflict of interestthat is bound to cause the elf problemssoon.

Master Pieter van der Talp

AppearanceVan der Talp is a fire elementalist, whoshows his pride into his profession bywearing red robes embroidered withgolden flames. He is hunchbacked andhas a half-crazed facial expression.Hiscopper skin marks him as an ethnicFlaem.

PersonalityPieter is a person with a tendencytowards two-dimensional thinking.Everything is black or white, good orevil, without shades of grey. Theelementalist is very convinced of theprior claim of Flaems on the Glantrianlands and is quick to state this. Hisspecial hatred however is reserved forthe Alphatians and does everything,open or covert, to reduce their influence.

GoalsVan der Talps main goal is to reduce theinfluence of Alphatia on Glantri. Hesees the native Alphatians as little morethan spies and works hard to act againstthem.

Master VelasquezVelasquez is a half elf from Belcadizand a master of Illusionism. Unlike hisfellow masters, he does not wish toparticipate in the general intrigues,focusing on art and beauty instead. Heloves poems a lot and has a literarycircle, where poets perform, supportedby skilled illusionists.

Stats NotesVelasquez is a powerful illusionist, whois also quite skilled socially.Interaction Skills: Diplomacy 16,Acting 19, Fast Talk 16, Intimidation 15Spells: all illusionism spells, basicabjuration and some transmutation.

Master Hung LowHung Low is a Krondaharian master ofAir Elementalism. He is withdrawn andthoughtful, looking like the stereotypicalKung Fu master.

Mistress LyndarMistress Lyndar is the mistress of RunicDivination. An ugly hag, Lyndar lovesto dress in what she considers "sexy"outfits. Few suspect that this is just afacade for her scheme to keep herenemies unsuspecting of her Werewolfnature.

Master Alphonso CambionAlphonso Cambion is a Transmuter,who is reknown for his racialintolerance and his tactlessness.

This section describes NPCs that thePCs will encounter and possiblecompete with. Since they are not thehalf-gods the masters are, they are givenconcrete stats.

Cyrus of ArThis air elementalist is a cruel fighterand acts as bodyguard for Darion of Ar.As a former marine of the aerial fleet ofAr, Cyrus is no stranger to violence. Hedoes not agree with Darion's generousways and often acts by himself when hefeels that it is in the best interest ofAlphatia to do so.

AppearanceCyrus is a tall, well-muscled man withpale skin and a three-pointed beard.While he wears the silk robes so typicalof the Alphatian upper class, he isclearly unconfortable in this clothingand seems better suited for heavyarmour.

HistoryCyrus was born in the floating city of Aras the son of a minor noble. His familyalways had a strong focus on militarymatters and for this reason, young Cyrusjoined the marines of the aerial fleet.Soon his talent at aerial assaults became

obvious. His fearlessness and fanaticaldevotion to his country made him idealfor aerial boarding manoeuvresinvolving magically enhanced jumpsover vast gaps. He became member of aspecial force that avoided weapons andheavy armour for maximum mobilityand became renown for his shockinggrasp attack.After 3 years of intense training andseveral foolhardy missions, Cyrus cameto the attention of Darion, a master spy,who felt, he could use such a capablewarrior. While the two never becamefriends, they worked together well andhave formed a relationship of mutualrespect.

PersonalityCyrus is a tough and cruel man, who isnot particularly friendly or talkative,preferring to be alone. As a former elitemarine, he is quite brave and hard toscare. All in all, Cyrus is a cold andprofessional man, and there are evenrumours that he is a construct or undead.

Darion of ArArion is a native of Ar in Alphatia and asomewhat accomplished air elemen-talist. While he pretends to be an envoyand diplomat, he is really anaccomplished spy, protected bypowerful abjuration magic. When hecomes to a different country, trouble issure to follow his wake.

AppearanceDarion is a tall and imposing man,despite his advanced age. He movesslowly and with dignity but sometimeseven seems to have forgotten what heintended to do for a moment. Hetypically wears robes of spider silk and aconical hat. For festivities, he likes toapply elaborate magical makeup thatcoveres his face with swirling light bluepatterns.

PersonalityDarion is very polite and seems to be aman who has accomplished all hewanted in life (a fact he likes to pointout) and now enjoys doing low profilework. However, this is a well-practicedform of deception! In reality, Darion is amaster spy and totally dedicated towardshis current goal.Yet, the air elementalist is not a cruelkiller. Having a family himself andhaving seen many other cultures, he isloath to kill people and prefers secretwork to violent action or assassination.

Mabion BlackleafMabion is an Alphatian elf in thediplomatic service. Like his fellows heis a spy but his specialty is neithercombat nor diplomacy but crackinglocks and disarming traps.

AppearanceMabion is androgynous even for an elfand has purple hair and eyes. He wearssimple robes and has a very modestaura. However, he does not look shy, itis more that he seem to be an aliencreature that has been taken out of itsnative environment.During official events, Mabion likes topaint his face with a pattern of blackleaves meandering over his left cheek.The make-up is applied using a specialmagical dye that causes the leaves tomove slightly.

PersonalityLike all elves, Mabion does not reallyunderstand humans with their hectic,emotional ways and their monkeycuriosity. Instead, he prefers to enjoyelven poetry and song as well as huntingin the tranquil forests.Mabion is cool and polite amonghumans but well-liked among elves forhis longing songs and poems.Regardless of his company, Mabion canalways be described as unobstrusive andeven unimposing.

Beslen Dyrrn

AppearanceBeslen is a tallpure-blooded Alpha-tian, with pale skinand dark wavey hair.He is muscular andhandsome andeverything about himscreams athlete.

PersonalityBeslen is a member of an old Alphatianfamily and is very proud of theirtraditions. He has a dislike for anythingun-Alphatian, in particular Elves, whomhe perceives as arrogant. Otherwise,Dyrrn is a friendly person, his biggestflaw being his inability to keep hismoney together that has gotten him intothe debt of some very bad people.Beslen is a battle mage, trained equallywell in the art of fencing and the art ofAir magic. He is very ambitious anddislikes other telling him what to do.
