It was the drugs that made him do it.

That is what 33-year-old Steven D. Williams told Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies in an interview Sunday during which he confessed to stealing a pickup truck from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts in London.

According to Laurel County Sheriff’s Public Affairs Officer Gilbert Acciardo, Williams told deputies that he was under the influence of drugs and didn’t know what he was doing when took the Chevrolet S10 belong-ing to O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on South Main Street on March 31.

Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Riley Found the truck Friday. Acciardo said he had not received any informa-tion on where the truck was found or what condition it was in at the time. Acting on a tip that Williams was the person they were looking for, Deputies John Inman and Milton Storm staked out a location on Ky. 229 about six miles south of London that he was known to frequent. When Williams arrived about 12:30 p.m., Sunday the depu-ties took him into custody on charges of theft by unlawful tak-ing and being a persistent felony offender.
