My dear Catholic Daughters,

It is with a humble joy filled heart I can announce that the 2020-2022 National Board was installed during a

beautiful Mass in Des Moines, Iowa. All Covid19 precautions were observed including masks, social distanc-

ing and a very limited number of attendees. Thanks to the outstanding Iowa State Court, including their

spouses, the Mass and Reception were available online. I was honored that Past National Regents Claudia

Bosch, Shirley Seyfried, Helene Shepard and Immediate Past National Regent Olga Samaniego could attend.

Thank you for the beautiful cards and Masses I received from so many courts. May God continue to bless

you.

Our first National Board meeting was held before the Installation Mass. It was a time of getting to know each other and making

plans for the next two years. This is an outstanding board of Catholic Daughters who are excited to work together and make the

best better. Please continue to pray for all of us. Prayers are so powerful and especially prayers from our sisters in Christ.

S.O.A.R (Support Our Aging Religious) was originally planned for September 17, 2020, but became a virtual event rather than an

attended event. I was most honored to represent the Catholic Daughters during the virtual event. Thank you for your continued

support for the women and men who have given their love and lives to Jesus.

The “Fun D” calendar have been sent to you. Thank you for your continued generosity in helping to fulfill our Mission Statement.

Hopefully, YOU will be a winner!

In the past several months, many of our sisters have experienced disasters in their states. California, Oregon, Louisiana, and Iowa

have suffered from fires, hurricanes and unusual weather causing much harm to homes, schools, and businesses. Thanks to

your generosity, checks were sent to the bishop of each diocese affected to help with the many losses suffered. Please continue to

keep them in your prayers.

Included in this National Quarterly is information on the workshop for state and territorial officers, the March for Life on January

29, 2021, and a beautiful prayer service for Advent.

May you continue to share the gifts you have as we enter this advent season and the Christmas holidays.

God bless us, every one!

Hosting the National Convention March for Life JCDA Proclamation

National Chaplain, The Most Rev. Bishop Walker Nickless

Dear sisters in Christ,

I recently heard someone say, “2020 has been the longest five years of my life!” I’m

sure we can all understand the sentiment. It has certainly been an extremely chal-

lenging year. Yet, in the midst of all the suffering and turmoil, there have still be

abundant blessings and

graces from our Savior. As the feast of Christ the King just reminded us, God is in charge!

Therefore, we as disciples of Christ, as Catholic Daughters, and as leaders of our various groups and ministries can and

should face the coming year with faith and hope. This hope is not wishful thinking or blind optimism. It is the hope of

the faithful, holding fast to the revealed covenant while awaiting the coming Messiah. It is the hope of our blessed

mother, Mary, receiving the Annunciation and anticipating Jesus’s birth with joyful obedience to God. It is the hope of

the saints, fulfilled “already but not yet” in the sacraments and in their profound union with Christ in the Church.

This, too, is our hope. We acknowledge the struggles and trials we and others face. We know this world is not perfect,

nor ever will be. We know also, however, the presence and mercy of God, and the possibility of redemption – both in

this life, where forgiveness and reconciliation with others is made possible by Christ, and violence and anger are not

the only way; and in the life to come, where “every tear will be wiped away” by the infinite, perfecting love of God.

Therefore we stand fast in our Catholic faith, committed to sharing the Good News and serving all in need, grounded in

the hope that comes from personal union with Christ.

May the season of Advent and the coming birth of our Savior bring you every blessing and increase your faith, hope,

and love. May 2021 be a much better year for all of us! Please pray often for me, and know that I pray diligently for all

of you.

Your brother in Christ,

Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless

Bishop of Sioux City

National Chaplain

National Clergy Consultant, Rev Sibly Punnoose

“Lra all ol do, br donr wiah lovr” 1Cog.16:14.

At this time of great challenge for our world, people of faith are seeking the prop-er response. All are challenged, fear and confusion that dominate our lives. My life a year ago was totally different from what I live today. Is there an end to this crisis? We are a people of Hope and we hope for the best. God has a plan for us. During this time whatever we do, do it with love.

Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we remembered this simple scripture. The image of a world free of hatred would be so peaceful. And yet, we know that isn’t reality. Reality is that our world is one where we forget to show others the love we have been shown by God.

Paul reminds the Corinthian believers and us of our blessed hope in Christ and opens our understand-ing to the resurrection, certainly our own resurrection because Christ rose from the dead. Paul offers his concluding encouragement which is helpful for all who desire to live and grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ our Savior. “be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong,” he urges, “and let everything that you do be done in love.” As we abide in Christ and He in us that we begin to learn God’s love for us. It is as we die to our own self and live for Christ alone then we are fashioned and formed into the lovely image of Christ. When we permit the Holy Spirit to carry out His good works in and through our lives, then we can become a channel through whom His love can flow from us to others. And the final chapter of Paul’s letter, he exhorts the believers, “let all be done in love.” What a simple instruction to the Church of today, and yet what a profound depth of truth is contained in this state-ment. Love is the fulfilling of the Law and only as we allow the love of Christ to soak our being, as we die to self and walk in the spirit of Christ and truth, we can execute Christlike character in our lives. Everything we do, our attitude and action, our thoughts and our work, every word we speak, every de-cision we take and the choices we make need to be bathed in the Holy Spirit and washed in the foun-tain of God’s love and covered by the unconditional love of Christ. Who willingly for the love of His people accepted cross, so that like Him, everything we do may be done through Him in LOVE.

When it comes to loving others, there are many, many ways to do so, but to start, pray for them. Praying for others daily is unconditional way of loving others just as God calls us to do. Think about the people that are present in your everyday life and ways that you could pray for them. Think about the people that you come across every so often, maybe a relative that you haven’t seen in years or a friend you’ve drifted away from. Is there someone in your life you’re feeling God placing on your heart? Maybe you have two or three people in mind? Sit down today and say a prayer for them.

God Bless you all.

Lradrg: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Let us listen to the story of Mary’s visit from St. Gabriel, a

reading from the Gospel of St. Luke. (Ch. 1:26-38)

Naggaaog: In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a

town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Jo-

seph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said,

Anyrl Gabgirl: “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was greatly troubled at what was said and

pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

Naggaaog: Then the angel said to her,

Anyrl Gabgirl: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your

womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,

and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever,

and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Naggaaog: But Mary said to the angel,

Mag : “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”

Narrator: And the angel said to her in reply,

Anyrl Gabgirl: “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.

Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has

also conceived* a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing

will be impossible for God.”

Naggaaog: Mary said,

Mag : “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel

departed from her.

Lradrg: Throughout this advent and Christmas season, let us meditate on the motherhood of Mary. May we

embrace Jesus as Mary did on Christmas morning. In the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy

Spirit. Amen.

Our Grand Olde Lady needs us!

Are you, your court and/or your state court members of our Catholic Daughters of the Americas special

1903 Society? If you answer no to this question then now is the perfect time to join and to be a part of

taking care of the beautiful Grand Olde Lady. Our National headquarters is a lovely old brownstone build-

ing that is well over 100 years old. The building has been loved and well cared for since being purchased

in 1926, but like all 100+-year old’s, she needs continued attention and care to be available for the years ahead. YOU CAN BE

A CARE GIVER as a member of the 1903 Society for $1903.00. Payment plans are available for all budgets. You can purchase

one in Honor of or in Memory of a loved one or a member of your local or state court. A local court or state court could buy a

membership in recognition of the wonderful services performed by the CDA members of your state. When your membership is

paid in full, you will receive a lovely plaque presented at the National Convention in 2022 and acknowledgement on the wall at

the National Headquarters. Many updates and improvements have already been accomplished by the funds from our 1903 Socie-

ty and your membership helps keep funds available whenever she needs repairs or improvements without affecting our member-

ship dues. Another opportunity you have is to purchase a window for the headquarters for $1000 with our Windows of Oppor-

tunity! The windows are replaced with dual pane glass saving us on utilities by being much more energy efficient and making

the offices comfortable for our wonderful staff to work in both summer and winter.

As we live our new National Regent’s motto, “Let all you do be done with love” 1 Cor 16:14, taking care of our headquarters ex-

presses and shows our love for Catholic Daughters by caring for the Grand Olde Lady as we would our own homes. 10 West 71st

National Dues

It seems like only yesterday when dues statements were sent from the Na-tional Office. And here we are talking about dues again! With this unusual

year, life seems to be going really fast or really slow!

The National Office worked diligently to send all dues notices to state courts by October 19, 2020. Each state court needs this information to determine the number of delegates allowed for state conventions. The First Call for

State Conventions by State Regents should be in the mail six months before the convention. This information is found in the Tools of the Trade on the

Catholic Daughters website.

The National Representative for each state will be contacting you for the

dates, location and theme for each convention. Check out the newly revised

Tools of the Trade for help writing the First Call to Convention, the Official

Call to Convention, the Convention Agenda and committee assignments

May they rest in peace

Together Strong: Life Unites

Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life, stated that the march will continue. In her words,

“Listen, we marched during the blizzard of 2016, we’ve marched during government shutdowns, we marched after 9/11, we will march again this year. We’ve marched for 47 years and no sacrifice is too great to fight this human rights abuse of abortion.”

The Opening Mass of the Vigil for Life will be Thursday, January 28 at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC at 5:30 pm.

Matthew West, the GMA Dove Award®-winning and Grammy Award ®-nominated artist/songwriter and other speakers and musical groups will be performing at the March for Life Rally Friday, January 29 before the March commences.

Kenya and Peru Courts

At a recent board meeting, the National Board discussed the future of the Catholic Daugh-ters of the Americas courts in Kenya and Peru court. While we are proud that Catholic Daughters has extended its outreach beyond North America, an international presence, as you can imagine, has presented itself with a number of financial and operational challeng-es and difficulties. At the July 18, 2020, board meeting and upon careful deliberation, the National Board regretfully decided that Catholic Daughters no longer has the capacity to continue to support the courts in Kenya and Peru. We are unable to provide the necessary training and support that the Kenya and Peru courts need and deserve to accomplish their mission. In addition, we are unable to provide the requisite insurance coverage, both for the court’s protection and Catholic Daughters’ protection which leaves both parties vulner-able to liabilities in the future. Communicating with the women in Kenya and Peru has also proven to be a barrier.

This decision was not easy, but we believe it is the best one to ensure the future success of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Leading through uncertain times can be challenging to a

leader. There is a need for leaders to create ways to keep

the line of communication opened within their courts and

to focus on the well being of their members. The key

word here is communication. We know that communica-

tion is an ongoing process that allows us to think and talk

about the past, discuss the present and speculate about

the future.

Just think back for a moment. Yesterday, we were sched-

uling and attending court meetings. We looked forward

to the face to face contact; where we had the opportunity

to fellowship; discuss the court business and plan how to

move the court forward. Members would meet to contrib-

ute their ideals and reflect on experiences from the past. This type of meeting is presently on hold.

As leaders, we must continue to develop ways to keep our members together, informed and in-

volved.

There is different communication channels that will allow us to accomplish keeping the line of

communication opened. The two most popular channels are Zoom and Conference Calls. However,

we need to keep in mind, court members who are not privileged to either channel.

What can we do to keep members together, informed and involved? Have you thought about a

phone tree? The goal would be to assign two or three members per person. Member assignment

would be based on the court size. This member would be responsible for calling the member(s) af-

ter each meeting and share highlights from the meeting. It would also give the caller the opportuni-

ty to see how the member is doing.

Regardless as to how a court’s meeting is presently being held or plans to hold their meeting; re-

member that open communication should be a priory. The way we communicate with our members

today, will determine our future for tomorrow.

Michele Bowman is a new member on the National Board from the great state of Florida.

She has been assigned as National Director for three territorial courts. Michele believes that state

conventions not only conduct necessary business for the state and the courts in that state, they also

are a wonderful time to renew and refresh friendships, learn about new programs and recharge spir-

its. Michele submitted the attached message about inviting territorial courts to a state convention.

TERRITORIAL COURT CONNECTION

Do you have a Territorial Court near you?

Do you know where we have territorial courts?

Currently we have Territorial courts in the following ten states: Alaska, Alabama, Washington D.C.,

Guam, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, South Carolina, and Virgin Islands.

Has your State Court ever considered inviting any of these TC’s to your State conventions or work-

shops? (especially if they are located within a practical distance)?

It must seem very isolating to be a TC. Without their own conventions and State Boards these courts

miss out on information, spirituality and the feeling of sisterhood we all cherish.

Even if a TC cannot come for whatever reason, maybe a note of support and interest from other local

and State courts would be encouraging and uplifting.

Please give this consideration at your next board meetings as plans are made for 2021 State conven-

tions.

If information is needed to contact these courts please check our National website under State con-

tacts or contact your National Director. If, as a TC, you would like to know about conventions or activ-

ities near you please contact your National Director or reach out to State regents in neighboring

states.

Article IX State Courts

Sec. 1 Composition

B Five (5) or more local courts in good standing with a total membership of not less

than two hundred (200) members, may organize a State Court with the approval

of the National Board.

Submitted by Michele Bowman, National Director

Our Roman Catholic Faith is quite remarkable when you truly take the time

to think about it. We believe that angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin

Mary and asked her to be the mother of God (Jesus, the second person in

the Blessed Trinity).

Mary’s “YES” was the most famous crisis pregnancy as she could have been stoned to death for at this

time in history it was the Jewish law. Joseph was going to leave her quietly, but he was visited by an an-

gel of the Lord in a dream: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child

conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:21)

There was no room for Mary to give birth to Jesus, yet God finds a way for the King of Kings, the Lord of

Lords, the Most Holy to be born. The only shelter available was a stable, and there, Mary gave birth to

Jesus. She wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manager” (Luke 2:6-7)

Jesus survived the slaughter of the innocents as Herod ,king of Judea ordered the execution of all male

children two years old and under in the vicinity of Bethlehem.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior, this Christmas brings concerns that have not been

there in the past. The pandemic has impacted all our lives and we know that our technology will find a

vaccine to prevent this virus from destroying the precious gift of human LIFE.

On April 17, leading U.S. bishops wrote Stephen Hahn, the commissioner of the Food and Drug Admin-

istration (FDA), asking that a COVID vaccine be developed ethically.

“It is critically important that Americans have access to a vaccine that is produced ethically: no American

should be forced to choose between being vaccinated against this potentially deadly virus and violating

his or her conscience,” the bishops wrote.

So please pray this Christmas for an ethical vaccine that will be moral and successful. May God Bless You

and Your Precious Families this Christmas and may 2021 be a year of abundant blessings and love.
