Asalamualaikum, As we draw near to Thanksgiving and Winter holidays many of you will be taking the opportunity to visit family and friends nationally and abroad. There was a time when I would travel one destination to another without giving it much thought. But now Alhamdulilah with family and kids there is a host of thoughts that cross my mind before and during travel. I wanted to share with you a collection of 8 powerful and beautiful supplications and prayers to cover all of your travel needs taught to us by our beloved Prophet Muhammad صلى هللا عليه وسلم(including my personal favorite!) from the time you leave home until you return. They are simply profound. Many of the students who attended the “Dua” class memorized all eight and much more. I hope you will enjoy and benefit from them more than I have. Finally I want to leave you with this Hadith: Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah صلى هللا عليه وسلمsaid, "Three supplications are answered without doubt. The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of the parent for his child.” [At- Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud] Safe and enriched travels! MCWS Highway Cleanup A very successful highway cleanup took place on September 21st . Highway cleanups are organized throughout the year,this one being the last one for 2019. Dates for 2020 will be announced in Feb/March on the MCWS website. Highway cleanup events, amongst other programs, are a great way to give back to the community and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood . A big thank you to all our gracious volunteers for all they do!

Culture and Cuisine program

On September 20th, MCWS hosted the Culture and Cuisine program in collaboration with Canton Leisure Services . The program entailed a visit by 20 guests to 4 different houses of faiths, namely the Geneva church, The Hindu temple, the Sikh Gurdwara and MCWS. These visits took place over two Fridays, with 45 minutes per visit. The guests were welcomed by Sheikh Hasan and members of the outreach committee. A brief history of MCWS was presented by brother Imran Jalal and Sr Aisha introduced the basics of Islam. The guests also visited different stations, each designed to represent what Islam is all about. One station allowed guests to try on a hijab and take it with them as a gift. Other stations included a variety of food tastings representing Islamic countries around the globe and an explanation of the five pillars of Islam . The program was concluded with a tour of the Masjid by Shaykh Hasan. Guests were given personalized bookmarks with their names written in calligraphy as a departing gift. Alhamdulillah they all left pleased and grateful for the opportunity to visit us and learn more about Islam. Programs like these help spread the beauty of diversity and tolerance in our community. Sunnah Saturday

Assalamu alaikum! This week we had the benefit of getting started with our wonderful Sunnah Saturday program. It was made particularly special because we were able to add a girls version of the program. This is a program where on a weekly basis high school students get the chance to meet up and grow spiritually, intellectually, and physically. Youth do so by learning about weekly sunnahs of the Prophet Pbuh, by studying various Islamic topics, by getting involved in cool personal development activities, and by getting active and playing different sports every week. Each week is exciting and youth enjoy different experiences and learning opportunities. Some of the Sunnahs the boys have covered so far include the basmallah and the right and left hand. One brief gem from the boys program was in regards to following the sunnah of the Prophet Pbuh. We talked about the value of sunnah in the life of a human being and how many people tend to leave them out citing "that's just sunnah." One of our mentors impressed upon the youth that the sahabi used to seek out sunnahs and now we all try to avoid them. In reality, the sunnah is the way we show love to Allah Swt. As Allah Swt says in the Quran if you love Allah then follow his Prophet peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So far the girls have covered the 6 pillars of faith, modesty, and the importance of sending salawat upon our beloved prophet (pbuh). These lessons have focused on a Muslimahs core beliefs and the basics of how we should conduct ourselves in public and in private. We look forward to many more beautiful weeks with our Sunnah Saturday teams!
