2016 Presidential Election By: Tyler Miller

November 8, 2016, the 2016 Presidential Election. Millions of people around the country went to voting polls to cast their vote for their candidate. At about three o'clock in the morning, we finally found out who the 45th president of the United States was, Donald Trump. Some people are very excited about the new president choice, while others are very disappointed about the choice. Either way, we must look toward the future and stay united as Americans. There have been many presidents in the history of the United States with all different qualities. We must respect our next president’s qualities, and see what he does in the next four years in office.

Awesome Fall Coffee and Donut

Flavors By: Makayla Witz

What is the one thing most people drink? I know, its coffee! This article is going to be about new coffee and donuts that are at Dunkin Donuts. The ones that I

will be trying are the new pumpkin spice coffee and pumpkin spice donut. Hopefully they are good.

Alright let's get started. The pumpkin spice

coffee is the best coffee ever! It only has a hint of pumpkin spice. I would drink this all the time. I ordered a small and I am glad that I did. The small coffee has 170 calories. I would say it is very good but not to have it every day. Now for the donut… The donut was ok, but it wasn’t the best I have had. I think that it could have had more flavor to it. You can barely taste the pumpkin. I thought that there would be a stronger flavor of pumpkin in it. Why don’t you go to a Dunkin' Donuts and try it for yourself?

RBHS

Choir Trip By: Kati Kolar

On October 20th, the Komarek School choir went to Riverside Brookfield High School for a huge festival. At the festival, the choir participated in many activities like games and we learned new warm ups. Also, we worked on pieces we will be singing for the upcoming concert. The festival consisted of the RB choir groups, Hauser’s choir, Gross’s choir, George Washington’s choir, and of course, Komarek’s choir. We also watched RB’s choirs perform some songs for us. It was a wonderful experience! If you are able to, I encourage you to join choir next year or even next semester. You won’t regret it!

My Chemical Romance By: Mia Circelli

My Chemical Romance (aka MCR) was an American rock band that originated in New Jersey. The band founded on lead vocalist Gerard Way, his younger brother and bassist Mikey Way, guitarist Ray Toro, Matt Pelissier, and later joined by second guitarist Frank Iero the band in 2002 signed onto Eyeball Records and released their debut album tiled I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. The following year, MCR signed onto Reprise Records and in 2004 they released their major label debut, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. In 2012, after adding touring keyboardist James Dewees, the band released Confidential Weapons which was a series of singles recorded in 2009.On March 22, 2013 every emo’s soul died because My Chemical Romance announced they were breaking up. (BTW I’m teary eyed while typing this) In September of 2016, a tenth anniversary album to Black Parade was released with titles The Black Parade/Living with Ghosts.

To Dye Or Not To Dye? By: Katelyn Jones

I have told a lot of people that I wanted to dye my hair. The feedback was mixed. So, I decided to write a paper on the pros and cons of dying your hair. Let's start out with the cons: First, if you have any other hair color besides blonde you will have to bleach your hair, which is stripping it of its color so that the dye can actually dye your hair the desired color. Sometimes bleaching the hair doesn't even work and other times when it does actually work, the color is too bright or too dull or the wrong color in general. If that happens you have 3 options. The first option is to deal with it till the color fades and then you're still stuck with bleached hair which you can dye over again. Or, you could cut the dyed area of so you don't have to look at it any more. Lastly, you could wear a wig.

Despite the potential negative outcomes, there are pros of getting your hair dyed. For some, it may give a confidence boost. I talked to multiple people with dyed hair and they said it gave them a confidence boost. Next, there are so many colors to chose from! From pink to grey to rainbow or natural colors. What do you think?

Christmas Traditions Around the World

By: Kevin Paitl

Christmas in Africa Christmas Day in Africa begins with groups of carolers walking around the village, along the roadway, by the houses of the missionaries, singing popular carols. It is not uncommon for people to be awakened by a group of carolers. The most important part of Africans’ Christmas worship service is the love offering. At about 8 or 9 o'clock everyone makes their way to the celebration of the birthday of Jesus. Everyone who attends the service goes forward to lay down their gift on a raised platform near the Communion table. Not one person will attend the service without giving a gift.

Christmas in Japan Christmas in Japan includes a Buddhist monk called Hotei-osho who acts like Santa Claus. Some think he has eyes in the back of his head, so children try to behave in case he is nearby. Some children do not like Hotei-osho so they may receive their presents from Santa con Claus who goes around with a red-nosed reindeer. (Continued on p. 9)

Undertale: Snowdin By: Ella Westel

Hello again! Welcome back to another Undertale walkthrough! I hope you enjoyed the last one. I am going to go in order of the stages, but since this one will be about a village that mostly has snow, we thought it would be a good coincidence since it’s close to winter. So, I left off with us going out of the door of the Ruins, and when you get out of the door, you find yourself in a place with a bunch of pine trees, but without the pine needles, and a lot of snow. You continue walking, until you see a shadow following you. You get blocked off by a barricade and the shadow comes closer to you. Then, the shadow tells you to turn around. You turn around, and then the shadow tells you to shake their hand. You shake their hand, and the shadow turns into a figure with a blue hoodie and black pants, and at the same time, the sound of the whoopie cushion is heard. Then, the figure says, “Heheh… The old whoopie cushion in the hand trick. It’s ALWAYS funny.” The figure then introduces his name, which is Sans the skeleton. (Continued on p. 12 )

Chicago Cut Steakhouse By:Tyler Miller

Have you ever wanted to have a one in a while special and unique treat? Have you ever

wanted to spend the extra dollar on a meal that you will remember forever? Well when you

think of fine, gourmet cuisine, you think of steak. If you are looking for one of the best steaks

in the country, and you live in Chicago or near Chicago, Chicago Cut Steakhouse is the place

to be. Opened in 2011, Chicago Cut Steakhouse is famous for frequent celebrity sightings

such as Chicago sports players, actors, and even the Stanley Cup!

Open seven days a week, Chicago Cut offers unique cuisine for everyone. They offer

delicious seafood, sides, salads, and desserts along with breathtaking views of the Chicago

River. However, the main attraction at Chicago Cut is the steak. What sets Chicago Cut apart

from other steakhouses is their aging process. They dry- age their beef for thirty five days.

You may wonder what aging is, it is actually quite simple. Aging is what gives steak their

tenderness, and is a 21-35 day aging process. There are two types of aging styles; wet aging

and dry aging. Wet aging means you put the steak in a bag and vacuum pack it, then put it on

a shelf for 20-21 days. Dry aging means you leave the steak on a rack to let the bacteria eat

away at the muscle tissue to make it extremely tender. Dry aging steak is a technique that is

rarely used anymore. It may not seem like a lot, but it tastes a lot better when you eat the

steak. There are few restaurants that are open almost 20 hours a day. Chicago Cut is a

restaurant like no other, where you will experience a meal like no other!

The Twelve Days of Christmas…On a Budget! By: Michael Burns and Matthew Sandoval

Ok, so the song says to get the person the same presents 12 days in a row. Well, what if we’re on a budget? Let’s skip that and do good on our wallets.

Day 1) The song says to give your love a partridge in a pear tree. WHO WANTS A PARTRIDGE?! Keep it simple give them a cat in a tree.

Day 2) On the second day, it says to give your loved one 2 turtled doves. What is a turtled dove anyway? Is it a dove with a shell or a turtle with wings? Why not just give them two turtles and tape wings to them?

Day 3) Three french hens? Let’s keep it local and make it 3 American chickens.

Day 4) Who wants 4 calling birds waking them up in the middle of the night? How about pigeons? They’re pretty cool.

Day 5) Five golden rings for 8 days? Who wants that many rings? No one even has that many fingers. Instead, give them 5 ring pops. The recipient can actually enjoy those.

Christmas Traditions Around the World (Continued from page 6)

Christmas in Germany

In Germany, Christmas preparations often begin on the eve of December 6th.  Children leave letters on their windowsills for Christkind. This is a winged figure dressed in white robes with a golden crown who distributes gifts. Sometimes the letters are decorated with glue and sprinkled with sugar to make them sparkle.  There is a Christmas Eve figure called Weihnachtsmann or Christmas Man. He looks like Santa Claus and also brings gifts.

Christmas in Mexico

The Christmas celebration in Mexico is called La Posada.  La Posada is a religious procession that reenacts the search for shelter by Joseph and Mary before the birth of Jesus. During the procession, participants visit house to house carrying the images of Mary and Joseph looking for shelter.  Santa Claus is not predominant in Mexico, but the bright red suit is represented in the traditional flower of the season. A poinsettia, has a pretty red star-shaped bloom. One story says that a young boy walking to the church to see the nativity scene realized that he had no gift to offer, so he gathered up some plain green branches as he walked in. Although he was laughed at, the branches near the manger they started to bloom a bright red poinsettia flower on each branch.

The Twelve Days of Christmas…On a Budget! (continued)

Day 6) Six geese a-laying? How about we just give them 6 eggs from the chickens they will have.

Day 7) Seven swans a swimming? How about we give them rubber ducks?

Day 8) Eight maids of milking? How about eight farmers farming?

Day 9) Nine ladies dancing? Dancing is already free. Here’s an idea: Just go to a random party and say that you know someone there and they will let you stay and I guarantee you’ll find nine ladies dancing.

Day 10) Ten lords a leaping. Did you know lords have sometimes been turned into frogs? You know what frogs are known for, leaping. So, just get your love 10 frogs and depending on were you live frogs are free!

Day 11) Eleven pipers piping. Well that’s going to get down-graded to a kid playing a kazoo with ten friends.

Day 12) 12 drummers drumming. Let’s down-grade that to12 pugs sleeping.

2016 Volleyball Season Wrap-Up By: Erin Justus and Daniela Ulloa

This year, the eighth grade girls volleyball team was very exciting and energetic to watch. They had a good season. This year the girls had an amazing new coach, Coach Kopp (CK). She was fun and a good coach to the team. With her help, we managed to get a record of 5-5. Each and every game, the girls hustled hard to try and get the win. Unfortunately, it sometimes didn’t work, but even then the girls kept their heads up and played their best. They had a good season this year. Good luck to next year’s girls volleyball team!

Undertale: Snowdin (Continued from p. 6) Then he tells you that he is supposed to be helping his brother, Papyrus (who is also a skeleton), capture a human, but Sans doesn’t really care about capturing humans, so he just goes somewhere else. Then he tells you that you can follow him and go through the barricade that his brother built. You go through the barricade, and then Sans tells you that his brother is coming, so he tells you to hide behind the conveniently-shaped lamp. Once you do, Papyrus enters the scene. He asks his brother why he wasn’t doing his job. Then, there is a moment when Papyrus explains why he wants to join the Royal Guard (he says that when he joins the Royal Guard, he will get everything that he “utterly deserves”, which are respect and recognition), and there is another moment where Sans tells a bunch of puns. Papyrus then walks away, and Sans says you are safe to come out behind the lamp. Once you do, you are able to talk to Sans, and then he says, “You oughta get going. He might come back. And if he does... you’ll have to sit through more of my hilarious jokes”. After he says that, he asks you to not hide from Papyrus, and actually let him try to capture you because Papyrus has never seen a human before, so he thought that it would make his day. Sans also tells you not to worry because he said that Papyrus isn’t dangerous, even if he tries to be. In the Genocide Route, though, when you shake Sans’s hand, Sans guesses that you did some pretty terrible things. Also, when you go through the barricade and he tells you to go behind the lamp, you don’t. After Sans asks you about the favor, there is a room with a save point on the route and a box where you can put some of your items if your pockets are full and you can take an item out, too. If you go up, there is a fishing rod with a phone number at the end, but no matter what, you decide not to call. Then, you can go back down to the room with the save point and the box, and if you turn to the right you are once again encountered by Papyrus and Sans. The two are having a conversation with each other, until both of them notice you...

Gift Ideas (Continued from p. 14)

The last gift idea is perfect if you’re short on time and money but still want something meaningful. A mug! Mugs are awesome even if you don’t drink coffee. You can use them for milk, tea, soup, you name it! If you wanna be simple, you can purchase one that already has a graphic on it or if you wanna be creative, you can make it yourself! All you need is a plain mug, Sharpie permanent marker (oil-based deliver long-lasting results but the regular ones work just as good), and an oven. Draw your design on the mug, let the ink dry for a few hours, then bake your mug at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, then you got yourself a mug!

With the holidays near, I wish you all the best of luck finding the perfect gift for every single one of your family and friends!
