The Disciple November
2013
St. James Episcopal Church – 519 East Park Avenue Riverton, WY 82501 307-856-2369
MINISTRY MUSINGS…… We will soon be moving into the
season of Advent in the Episcopal
Church. One of the things I love about
the Episcopal Church is the changing
liturgical seasons. It helps me to think
about the different times in Jesus’ life
and the life of his disciples.
Definitions of Advent include –
“The coming or arrival, especially of
something extremely important”, or
“The liturgical period preceding
Christmas, beginning in Western
churches on the fourth Sunday before
Christmas and in Eastern churches in
mid-November, and observed by many
Christians as a season of prayer, fasting,
and penitence”.
This year St. James’ is going to take
on something new in the way of prayer
during the Advent season. An Advent
Calendar, of sorts, will be put up in the
church. It will have the traditional 25
pockets. But in these pockets,
parishioners will place their name.
The trick here is that you will need to
remember the number of your pocket.
Then at an appointed time in the
service, probably the peace if it is a
Eucharist or the offertory during
Morning Prayer, those who are
participating will go take a card out of
another pocket. The plan then will be
for you to pray for that person during
the next week.
You may go to them after the service
if you wish, let them know that you have
their name and will be praying for them.
You will replace that card (I know,
another number to remember).
The process will repeat again for the
remaining Sundays in Advent.
We are hoping that 25 of our
parishioners will participate in this
season of prayer. The name on the
card can be that of just one person,
or a family. Even if you do not think
you will be here every Sunday in
Advent, you can still participate. If
there are only 20 people in church on
a Sunday, only 20 cards will be pulled.
Even though we think we know the
people next to us in the pew, having an
opportunity to visit with others for a
few minutes after church, and then
pointedly praying for them during the
next week can only bring us closer
together as a church family.
Watch for the calendar to go up in
the next few weeks, and get your pencil
ready to fill out your card !
In His Love,

The Bishops Arrived
On October 7th Instead !!! Bishop Isaya Chambala and his wife Ezereda made a visit to our church on Monday, October 7th. Following the Eucharist, gifts were exchanged in the parish hall. Bishop John Smylie presented a specially made cross to our church for its generous monetary support of the Diocese of Kiteto last June. This beautiful cross will be hung above the credence table in the rear of the church. In addition, our bishop gave a small cross made from the same woods to Veronika Schultz for her participation in the
music mission there last July.
ALTAR GUILD It's that time of year again, which means we need a polish and shine party to ready St. James’ for the Holiday Season. I hope to see you on Saturday, Nov. 16th at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come. Monthly Altar Guild helpers are needed too. Please consider adding your name to the sign up sheet in the narthex. With Love in Christ, ~ Marla ~

Greetings: My name is Mary-Page Jones, my husband was the Episcopal Bishop of Wyoming from 1977 until 1996 when we moved to Jerusalem. We lived in Jerusalem for four years at St. George's College. It was an amazing experience and it has long been my dream to take a group of women with me to explore the Holy Sites as well as explore stories of some of the women in the Bible. Next year at Easter time April 9 - 20, 2014 I am offering a Women's Pilgrimage to the Holy Land with an optional trip to the Sinai and St. Catherine Monastery. Thank you in advance for getting the information to women in your parish.
Blessings,

100 Things GOD Said About Healing –
Compiled by Pastor David Emigh
The following statements are what God has personally said
about healing. To the degree you let them flow into your
heart, the healing will flow out to your body. Once God’s
Word is allowed to come alive in the heart, if will change the
rest of the person. Be patient, a seed takes time to grow, but
once it does, it provides fruit for many seasons. (A copy of the 100 scriptures taken from God’s Word that
Pastor Emigh compiled is available in the church office, or call or email & I will send a copy to you!)
I will not put any of the diseases you are afraid of on you, but I will take all sickness away from you. (Deut. 7:15)
I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds saith the Lord. (Jeremiah 30:17)
I will bind up that which was broken and will strengthen that which was sick. (Ezekiel 34:16)
I took your infirmities, I bore your sicknesses. (Matthew 8:17)
I will take sickness away from the midst of you and the number of your days I will fulfill. (Exodus 23:25, 26)
My words are life to you, and health /medicine to all your flesh. (Proverbs 4:22)
You shall live and not die, and declare the works of The Lord. (Psalm 118:17)
I sent My Word and healed you and delivered you from your destructions. (Psalm 107:20)
Your light shall break forth as the morning and your health shall spring forth speedily. (Isaiah 58:8)
St. James’
Mitten Tree Luncheon
When: Saturday, Dec. 14th
Where: St. James’ Parish Hall It will be December before we
know it! Please be thinking about
sharing gift cards again this year
with your donations of mittens,
gloves, hats & scarves.
The cards will be available to help the less
fortunate that enter the doors of St. James’
and will be kept in a secure place to distribute
as another way of extending the hand of Christ.
All the gift cards really made a difference during
the last year, especially the gas cards and the
grocery cards were joyously received and
appreciated. We just gave out the final
previously donated card in October. I hope to
recount some of the stories about the recipients
in the next St. James’ Newsletter. As always the
mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves will be shared
with others in need also. Watch the church
bulletins and the December Newsletter for more
details to follow. Have a wonderful November,
and a Happy Thanksgiving!
