Holiday Hearts: Adopt-a-Family Crisis Nursery

National APWA—www.apwa.net Missouri Chapter APWA—http://missouri.apwa.net

For the past four years, the St. Louis Branch of the Missouri Chapter APWA has adopted families

from Crisis Family Nursery during the holiday season to provide a brighter Christmas morning to

those in need. After the second year, we expanded our efforts and adopted multiple families

through your charitable contributions and donations, and have continued to pursue two families

last year and again this year.

This year, our fundraising began earlier than normal, starting with a raffle at the May program/

picnic event at Shaw Park. The event raised $220 thanks to donations from Bax, M3, and CMT.

Then at the October program, donations from Tony Russo, HR Green, and Missouri Petroleum allowed the Chapter

to raise $460. These donations, combined with cash donations from EFK Moen and Vijay Bhasin, put the Chapter is a

great position heading into the December Program. But we are not done.

Your help is still needed. We are still in need of donations for the December 10th raffle.

Raffle tickets are 1 for $5, 3 for $10 or 6 for $20,

and you will have a chance to win the following prizes already committed:

A round of golf for three at Meadowbrook Country Club

Click, Listen & Learn—The Urban Forestry Role in Community Resilience

National APWA—www.apwa.net Missouri Chapter APWA—http://missouri.apwa.net

DATE: November 12, 2015

TIME: 10:00 a.m.—Noon

LOCATION: City of Maryland Heights, City Hall

11911 Dorsett Road

Maryland Heights, MO 63043

Our nation’s communities continually face the shocks and stresses which Storm related natural disasters pose. The very

nature, frequency, and severity of Storm impacts challenges Municipal Professionals to consider innovative and collabo-

rative approaches which shift the focus from simply responding and recovering, towards a “culture of preparedness” and

ultimately a “culture of resilience”.

The Urban Forestry Incident Command Engagement Model is a framework and a set of tools which can immediately be

applied towards resilient infrastructure, economy and community.

After attending this session, participants will be better able to:

• Articulate a general understanding of a specific model of engagement which can be used between communities of mu-

nicipal professionals towards achieving more resilient cities.

• Explain the value proposition and human dimensions of urban forestry and urban greening science relative to municipal

investments and management.

• Describe the “next steps” which would follow for applying and implementing the three-step engagement model.

• Discuss the three-step engagement model which can be applied specifically to collaboration between municipal profes-

sionals with urban forestry and emergency management responsibilities
