2017 Angel Tree 2017 Angel Tree 2017 Angel Tree 2017 Angel Tree ProgramProgramProgramProgram
As in past years, the Kenmure community will be participating in the Hendersonville Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program this coming holiday season. Many a child in need has had a memorable Christmas morning thanks to the kindness and generosity of a Kenmure resident.
The table and festive trees will be set up in the Grill Room, each tree “decorated” with angel tags for 70 area children. Each tag will contain the child’s first name, age and his or her gift wishes. There will be a sheet nearby, listing all of the children and their family ID number. Please provide your name and contact information next to your chosen child so that I may track the children.
Once you have purchased your gifts, please attach the angel tag securely to the UNWRAPPED package. Several gifts may be placed together in a large plastic bag, with the tag firmly attached, and left near or under the table for me to pick up. Due to space constraints and out of consideration for your fellow Grill Room diners, please plan to deliver larger items to me at my home at 160 Overlook Dr. Additionally, the grateful parents always appreciate a donation of wrapping paper. Should you have questions, should you need a pick up or plan to deliver items to my home, please call me at 703-966-7060.
Your caring can give a child much joy. Thank you in advance for your continued support of this worthwhile program.

There are many reasons we enjoy calling
Kenmure home. Its manicured beauty is stunningly apparent every time we pass through the gate. The people responsible for its appeal are just a few of those dedicated Kenmure employees who work here daily, enhancing our club experience. Our annual Employees’ Holiday Fund provides a way for you to show your appreciation to all those employees- the men and women who serve us in the golf shop, on the tennis courts, in our restaurants and banquet facility, as well as our club grounds personnel, and our administrative, building maintenance and janitorial staffs.
You can show your appreciation for their continued service by contributing to the Employees’ Holiday Fund. Please contact Traci Bates in the Accounting Office by December 15 t h, via emai l ([email protected]), or by phone (697-9999 ext. 16), letting her know your intended gift amount and billing information.
Please be aware that the Employees’ Holiday Fund is for the employees of Kenmure Country Club and is separate from the Holiday Fund for our gate and security personnel.

Some 2017 statistics:
♦ We had 11 projects and events—Autobell Car Wash,
Coins4Cancer, Golf Tournament and Mulligans, Gala
Dinner, Treasure Trove Raffle & Mini Silent Auction,
Centerpiece sales, Tennis Social & Raffle, Eat at
Iannucci’s and Kenmure Krush Walk/Run & Raffle—
that raised $24,470. Plus . . .
♦ 31 people dedicated Super Signs! for a total of
$3,190.
♦ 6 local corporations donated a total of $3,690 and
♦ 86 individuals and couples remembered, honored
and supported their loved ones with gifts to the
Honor Board for a total of $46,821.18.
We love October because that’s when we get to tally
up the funds you have so graciously donated to the can-
cer centers of our two local hospitals, Pardee Hospital and
Park Ridge Health. This year, Treasurer Bill Hale checked
and double checked and triple checked and still came up
with a total of $75,000 raised this year!!!
Kenmure Fights Cancer is somewhat unique in that we
don’t set goals for how much to raise in a given year. In
April, we ask the hospitals to tell us how they will spend
our money—without having any idea how much we will
actually give them in October.
We do the best we can. If we raise the full amount,
fine. If not, the hospitals understand purchases may need
to be adjusted according to what they actually receive. As
a Board, we constantly remind ourselves that, “Every
penny counts” and “We raise what we raise.” This gives
us the latitude to be sure our projects and events are fun
for presenters and participants alike.
For several years, we raised about $30,000 so each
hospital was able to estimate they would receive about
$15,000. Last year was exceptional, so we upped the an-
ticipation this year to $25,000 each—but with the caution
that it might not happen! Never did we expect that each
cancer center would receive $37,500!
Above: Park Ridge Health representatives accept $37,000
donation. L to R: Trinka King, Jimm Bunch, President &
CEO, Linda Richards, Susan Bush and Megan Raxter.

MGA NEWS Chip Pryde
Our fall golf has started out with fantastic
weather which means it has been too dry for a while.
We did get significant rain finally on October 8 in the
aftermath of the latest hurricane to hit the Gulf. We
finished our formal season on September 14 with a
grand day of golf and a dinner following that we wrote
about in last month’s newsletter.
Our golf continued with a September 21 match played
with 3 person teams using a Cha Cha format. The
winners were Bob Huffman, Fred Balling and Paul
Turano. On September 28 we played a 2 person team
1 net best ball format in 3 flights. The winners were:
Flight 1 Ken Hogue & Pete Dunderdale, Flight 2 Don
York & Charles Wilkins and flight 3 Cliff Stalter & Ron
Masterman. On October 5 there was not a match as
the Club held the Fall Golf Event. On October 12 we
played a mixed tee event with 4 or 3 person teams.
The play was on blue tees for 6 holes, then white tees
for 6 and the final 6 holes were from Glenroy tees. The
winning team was Dave Christenbury, Cliff Stalter, Sam
Gumbert and Charles Wilkins.
We invite all members who stay for the fall and
winter to continue to play each week the weather
favors us with the opportunity to play. Our membership
continues to grow. Let’s all enjoy the camaraderie that
comes with golf and meeting new people each week.
The minutes of the MGA meetings are posted in the
locker room so that people can keep informed of the
subjects discussed at each month’s meeting. Golfers
can also keep up on the golf course maintenance
plans and projects by looking at the blog found on the
Club website.
Our golf course stays in fine condition through the
winter and if you have played other area courses in the
off season you know we stand out. All players can help
out by fixing divots or putting sand in them, rake the
sand traps after escape and repair the ball marks on
the greens.

WGA LOOSE ENDS Karen S. Skelton
Famous last words: Can you believe it? Opening Day is just around the corner! Another dreaded deadline... WOW! Have you made your reservation for the mid-season game and lunch? It’s that time already! Volunteers are needed for the Nominating Committee. Good grief - weren’t we just musing about Opening Day’s finally being here and now Closing Day is history? Have the snowbirds flown already?
Perhaps I should have said Famous last questions. but
there really is only one answer: Time flies. We hope you
had a great season and played more rounds this summer
than you did last. (A wise man repeatedly tells me I am
not going to get any better playing 9 holes only once a
week!) We hope you took advantage of the driving range
not only on Tuesdays. We hope you’ve met our Who’s That? gals and we hope you will be pleased with our
leadership for 2018:
President - Cindy Shannon Vice-President - Lisa Caudle
Secretary - Diane Quackenbush
Treasurer - Jeanne Sudderth Tournament Chairs - Linda Mensch & Lois Mikrut
Fairway Friends - Debbie Dunderdale
Hospitality - Susan Fogle& Ann Wilkins Membership/Attendance - Ellen Wiesenthal
Publicity - Karen Skelton
We also have new committee chairs for 2018:
9-Hole Invitational Chairs - Susan Bush & Elaine
Hessong 9-Hole Invitational Committee - Suzanne Gold
Member Directory - Lisa Caudle
Prizes - Linda Snyder Ringers - Judy Pendergast
Sunshine - Madi Shinn
Tournament Committee - Donna Johnson Western Carolina WGA - LaVonne McKay
Thus, the season has wound down but, actually, we have
been playing a little: At the end of September it was Tee To Green. The 9-holers fielded three flights and the
winners were Marian Hansen (Flight 1), Lisa Caudle (Flight
2), and Elaine Hessong (Flight 3). For the 18s, Flight 1
winner was Marilou Reed, and Flight 2, Sue Amsler. On
October 3, Total Net Par 3s was a team game won by 9-
holers Susan Bush, Susan Fogle, Cynthia Vick and Ann
Wilkins, and 18-holers Sue Amsler, Inger Berg, Marion
Keenan, and Lois Mikrut.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, Kenmure
hosted the Two-Day Western Carolina Women’s Golf Association Tournament. The weather wizards, however,
turned it into a one-day tournament but 57 women
representing 13 clubs competed. There were both Low Gross and Low Net competitions and our women did shine:
For Low Gross we offer congratulations to Marilou Reed
who won in Flight 3; Lois Mikrut was 3rd. Sue Amsler was
3rd in Flight 5 and Kathy Newbold won the top spot in
Flight 6. In Low Net, Cindy Shannon won 3rd in Flight 2.
Marilou Reed took first in Flight 3 and Kathy Newbold
won in Flight 6. It was a great tournament and we offer
a tip of our collective visor to LaVonne McKay who did a
phenomenal job of organizing and orchestrating this
event, and to those who volunteered, including our
husbands who readied carts and unloaded and loaded golf
clubs.
In between the Team Net Par 3s game and the WCWGA Tournament, we did have some Saturday Excitement -
Debbie Dunderdale, Kay Leyrer, and Linda Mensch were
on #7 when Debbie and Linda witnessed Kay’s EAGLE!
I’m sure we’ve all had days when it’s taken us two just to
cross the creek, but TWO and you’re back in the cart?
WOW! Kay. WOW! Congratulations from all of us!
More Famous last words? Closing Day was great! When
we started our first of 14 holes it was 43 degrees. It
was cold; REALLY cold! It was wet; REALLY wet! And
then the wind appeared, and, yep, it was REALLY windy!
And leafy. We spent a lot o’ time lookin’ for balls under
clumps of grass and leaves but no one quit and we had a
good time. The good news is that it was warm in the
Charleston Room where we gathered for lunch and the
final WGA meeting of the 2017 season. Winners of the
day’s event, Team Shamble, 2 Net BB, were Suzanne Gold,
Diane Quackenbush, Linda Snyder, and Ann Wilkins.
Second place was Marian Hansen, Bonnie Niehoff, Cindy
Shannon, and Pam Van Tassel (one of those Who’s That?
girls. Welcome, Pam!).
Year-end awards were given to our Most Improved (9- and 18-holers) - Roxanne Paulsen (9) and Karen Roberts
(18) - and our Ringer champions: Low Gross - Melissa
Maybury (9) and Cindy Shannon (18); Low Net - Elaine
Hessong (9) and Marilou Reed (18). Melissa also won Most Pars and Marilou and Cindy tied for Most Birdies. Melissa
and LaVonne McKay (18) also were awarded trophies from
their President’s Cup win. And then it was over: WGA 2017 - but not until we offered our thanks and
appreciation to Lois Mikrut for a job well-done. Lois, we
thank you.
And that’s it! Organized golf, as we know it, is over for
the season; however, Tuesday is still ours for making tee
times from either 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
If you’re up and at ‘em, and have a hankerin’ to play early,
Show and Play is 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Look for us on the
tee.
