On October 5th, 10 intrepid Mercedes Benz aficionados once again descended upon Wendt's On the Lake near Fond du Lac for a Drive to Dine. We were rewarded with the most excellent lake perch, wraps, and melts (the Bloody Mary's weren't too shabby either). Those in attendance included the Stowells, Lowrys, Losekes, Sduns and Bedores. There was a good time to be had by all which included lots of smart talk and critiques especially since the hosts got lost on the way up. For those who haven't tried a D2D, they provide a wonderful means to exercise your buggy and enjoy the friendship of some really nice folks. Give one a try!

‘Zimbrick Oktoberfest’

A handful of members got together at the 3rd Annual Oktoberfest (in September) event sponsored by Zim-brick European- Madison. The event was quite nice. Participation was restricted by the weekend event start-ing the next day in Door County. Thanks go to Zimbrick for the invitation.

President’s Message...

I would like to say it has been a pleasure being President of the Wisconsin section of the MBCA. I would like to thank all the members who helped make the past year a success. If I am needed to serve as President again, I will gladly take on the respon-sibility.

By the time you read this newsletter we will have had our Annual Meeting and elected the new board members. Planning for the next year’s calendar will begin at the first board meeting on November 13th. Please make any program suggestions you would like and the board will consider them.

Keep in mind to promote membership anytime you can, and as a good member, please participate in club events whenever possible. Also, think seriously about hosting or co-hosting an event during the next year.

Thanks for all the good experiences.

Frank Lubinski

Fall Road Rallye and

The weekend started with arrivals on Friday afternoon and early evening. An impromptu group began to assem-ble for a Wisconsin Friday night fish fry at a Sturgeon Bay emporium recommended by the motel staff. We started on the patio as we waited for table assignments in smaller groups. Conversations were lively and after dinner some moved to a location across from the hotel for more after dinner conversation and drinks. On Saturday morning many gathered for breakfast provided by the Maritime Inn. A large contingent then took in the water world history of the region at the Door County Maritime Museum in downtown Sturgeon Bay. Additionally, the city was abuzz with excitement this weekend with the planned dedication of a new draw bridge after a couple of years of controversy and construction. Not only have the waters of Big Stur-geon Bay divided this city (and the peninsula) but the fate of the old bridge has added a new dimension to the divide. Still, the concentration during the museum guided tours was of a far more colorful and signifi-cant history in the area.

Club Treasurer, Jim Loseke, was thought to have searched in vane for the whereabouts of the rallyemaster out on the pen-insula with the aid of this working submarine periscope.

Cathy Loseke takes a turn at the ships wheel on display.

Members explore “the Engine Room” complete with the collection of antique outboard motors.

Detailed models of many Sturgeon Bay-built ships were displayed for our enjoyment.

The afternoon was spent on the rallye route. “Team Pearson (Nancy, Dean, Lynn & Eric) collabo-rated again for this fourth running of the quintennial, Door County Rallye. This was the Wisconsin section’s 49th Autumn Leaves Rallye. Gary Mathias’ bugle called the gang together for instruc-tions and we were off and running -- twenty four cars. The format was a gimmick rallye with questions. It began by routing us out of the city and through an 8-mile stretch of vaca-tion homes along the Lake Michigan shore. This lead into an intriguing overlapping loop section with a time & distance re-

quirement. After that there were miles of country roads with a short stop at the Wisconsin Motorcycle Memorial Park to look for clues, a rest stop at Door Peninsula Winery, a trek along a bicycle route, and a little fun in a cemetery. The rallye officially ended at Maxwelton-Braes Golf Resort with a wonderful dinner and an opportunity to dissect the route.

(Left) It’s rumored that Colleen Lowry may have gone back to Door County another weekend still looking for this clue. (Hint: it’s around the corner - after the turn, and visible from within the car. Congratulations on making it this far and completing the rallye. A few did not. (Right) In the mean time, 1st Place rallyist, Jim Loseke, had their award on the wall the same day he received it.
