Pastor’s Musing A man was walking in the mountains just enjoying the scenery when he stepped too close to the edge of the mountain and started to fall. In despera-tion he reached out and grabbed a limb

of a gnarly old tree hanging onto the side of the cliff. Full of fear he assessed his situation. He was about 100 feet down a shear cliff and about 1,000 feet from the floor of the canyon below. If he should slip again he’d plummet to his death. Full of fear, he cries out, “Help me!” But there was no answer. Again and again he cried out but to no avail. Finally he yelled, “Is anybody up there?” A deep voice replied, “Yes, I’m up here.” “Who is it?” “It’s the Lord.” “Can you help me?” “Yes, I can help. Have faith in me.” “Help me!” “Let go.” Looking around the man became full of panic. “What?” “Have faith in me. Let go. I will catch you.” “Uh….Is anybody else up there?”

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: First Sunday of Advent Monday: St. Andrew Tuesday: World AIDS Day Thursday: St. Francis Xavier Friday: St. John of Damascus; First Friday Saturday: First Saturday

Message from the Pastor W elcome to St. Ambrose ! We are so glad you are able to join us

today to celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. THE COMING KINGDOM: Jeremiah could see it coming—the kingship of Jesus and the restoration of Jerusalem. But was anybody listening? Is anybody listening now? It must have been tough being a prophet, but Jeremiah was persistent in his message because he knew that it needed to be heard. Also persistent in his message is Paul as he encourages the Thessalonians—and all of us—to live in accordance with the kingship that Jeremiah foretold. He encourages us to conduct ourselves in ways of holiness so that we may be well prepared for the king’s coming. Finally, Jesus himself tells us to be ever diligent so that we may gain favor before our God and King. Jeremiah could see the kingship of Jesus coming. As we begin the season of Advent, Paul and Jesus tell us not only how to prepare for the Kingdom, but how to live it day to day. Have a wonderful week—Remember—the most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling; and even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it!

GREATNESS: The measure of greatness is not the number of servants you have, but the number of people you serve. —Anonymous

HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION

The Immaculate Conception of the

Blessed Virgin Mary Tuesday, December 8th, 2015

Mass Schedule: 7:30 & 11am, 12:15 & 7 pm (Vigil Mass for Holy Day 4 pm only)

REFLECTIONS Edward Hays writes of Advent in A Pilgrim’s Almanac: ‘Take time to be aware that in the very midst of our busy preparations for the celebration of Christ’s birth in ancient Bethlehem, Christ is reborn in the Bethlehem's of our homes and daily lives. Take time, slow down, be still; be awake to the Divine Mystery that looks so common and so ordinary, yet is wondrously present.’

Salvador Ryan St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth

ANGEL TREE Once again we have our Angel Tree with tags for boys and girls and with their ages. We ask that each family take one (or two, or three), purchase a gift suitable for a child of that age,

and return the gift UNWRAPPED, when you come to Mass, and place it under the tree. These toys will be distributed the week of De-cember 13th. Light up a child’s eyes and heart this year. Your gift will be greatly appreciated by those in need.

COLLECTION FOR RETIRED RELIGIOUS Support elderly religious. A parishioner writes, “As a Catholic school student from

grades K—12, I was formed to be the person I am by many religious brothers

and sisters, and I am forever grateful.” Show your thanks for the senior Catholic

sisters, brothers, and religious order priests who made a positive difference in so many lives.

The Retirement Fund for Religious provides support for thousands of elderly Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. Our guest speaker at the masses on Dec. 12 & 13 will be Sister Frances Madigan an Adrian Dominican who just celebrated 63 years of consecrated religious life.
