When our parish members celebrate sacraments, the entire Christian community celebrates with them. In the spirit of Christian support, we announce that

Ashli Ott & Andrew Malcolm will celebrate the sacrament of marriage on December 5.

May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and in all. (1 Thessalonians 3:12)Today's reading from Jeremiah recalls the first advent of the Messiah in history. The Gospel heralds His future advent at the end of time. In the Epistle, Paul challenges us to bring about a daily advent of the Lord through our love for one another in the present time.

Today’s gospel reminds us that the weight of sin and the worries of this life are a trap. That undercurrent of uneasiness, that vague feeling of unworthiness or that persistent gnawing of regret keeps us from knowing God’s peace. In the words of absolution spoken at the end of the sacrament of Reconciliation, the priest says “may God give you pardon and peace”. Discover God’s peace, a

peace that comes from leaving your sin behind, being made free, and being reconciled to the Lord.

Action: In Advent, prepare not only for the coming of Jesus at Christmas and at the end of time but especially for the coming of our Saviour each day.

Rejoice in God’s Mercy

Fr. Kevin’s Cluttered Desk Happy new year. Let the new year begin. For us as Catholics, this is our new beginning, no new year’s resolutions, just a time to get ready to greet our Lord and Saviour. We begin with a new focus on the future, a looking forward to what is coming, promises will be fulfilled, transformation will be achieved, change will happen, our faith will turn into action. We are in the midst of the two comings of Christ, that which has happened and that which will come and transform all of us, and none will remain unchanged. All of this is lived out in the Liturgy for Advent, changes are required and are not optional.

1. The vestment colour becomes a blue purple, the royal purple.

2. Wreaths or Log are set out with the four candles. 3. Are there wreaths at our doors, to our home to our church?

Note the simplicity for the church. It kind of stands in contrast to the hustle and bustle that is going on all around us.

4. Decorations around the church campus should be in keeping with the season and the preparation for Christmas.

5. Lights and trees should open us to the need for change and newness.

Here the simplicity is not found, a reminder of the balance we need to have between being Catholic and in the world.

St. Paul reminds us not to panic, Jesus is coming but don’t panic, strive to be at peace in the midst of the frantic activity. We need to seek the calm trust and peace of the Christ child who is coming and is already with us. Balance, a hard thing to find but let us pray that in this new year of faith we find the balance to live holy and blessed lives.

Peace Fr. Kevin

Pope Francis announces extraordinary Jubilee dedicated to

Divine MercyThe Jubilee of Mercy will begin on December 8, 2015, the Solemnity of

the Immaculate Conception and will conclude on November 20, 2016, The Solemnity of Christ the King.

Pope Francis told members of the Synod of Bishops on the family that the first task of the Catholic Church is not to hand down condemnations or anathemas, but to proclaim the mercy of God…

Furthermore, [T]he Church must be a place of mercy freely given, where everyone can feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to

live the good life of the Gospel. (Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, 114).
