Be a part of a broad and diverse coalition organising People's Climate Marches (rallies) around Australia on the weekend of 27-29 November 2015, just before world leaders gather at the UN climate talks in Paris. Over that weekend, People's Climate Marches will take place in hundreds of major cities around the world, with the goal of creating the largest mobilisation the world has ever seen. In Australia, we want to show just how diverse, beautiful and resilient our movement is. We are planning events for Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and Hobart. !People!will!come!together!for!many!reasons!–!for!climate!justice!and!a!safe!climate,!to!respond!to!the!moral!challenge!of!climate!change,!for!renewable!energy!and!jobs!in!the!transition!to!the!clean!economy!–!motivated!to!care!for!people!and!protect!nature.!!We!will!be!united!in!our!concern!that!climate!change!is!already!dangerous,!especially!for!the!world's!poorest!peoples!and!most!vulnerable!species.!Unchecked!global!warming!threatens!our!health,!our!families,!our!communities,!our!economy!and!jobs,!our!environment,!and!our!land,!food!and!water.!!The!world!is!working!towards!solutions,!and!so!are!Australian!communities.!Yet!our!government!lags!behind.!!!!This!November,!we#have#the#opportunity#to#come#together#to#demonstrate#that#we#are#a#broad,#diverse,#united#and#powerful#movement#committed#to#change,#and#that#we#will#hold#our#decision#makers#to#account.#!

Our#vision#in#coming#together#at#this#crucial#time#is#to:#!1. Build!a!stronger!movement!by!forging!new!

alliances!across!the!political,!cultural!and!social!spectrum!and!reaching!out!to!diverse!sectors!and!communities!around!Australia;!!

2. Build!on!and!strengthen!existing!campaigns!and!organising!methods!that!will!build!our!movement!for!the!longIterm;!!

3. Send!a!strong!message!to!our!political!leaders!that!they!must!make!a!choice!–!between!protecting!our!families,!communities!and!environment!from!dangerous!climate!change,!or!protecting!the!vested!interest!of!a!handful!of!big!polluting!energy!companies;!!

4. Demonstrate!strong!community!support!for!the!clean!energy!transformation!that!is!already!occurring,!and!build!a!sustainable!and!fair!society!for!all.!

!The!People's!Climate!Marches!will!have!an!organising!committee!for!each!city,!a!national!website,!common!key!messages!and!resources,!and!leadIup!events!to!help!build!public!engagement!and!strengthen!our!organising!capacity.!

TIME LINE OF KEY EVENTS

1. 100 DAYS OUT FROM PARIS August!21!will!mark!100!days!out!from!Paris.!We!will!launch!a!new!website,!as!well!as!announce!the!climate!mobilizations!events.!We!will!be!calling!on!our!political!leaders!to!protect!Australia’s!future!–!from!stopping!coalmine!expansion!to!ensuring!we!support!our!friends!in!the!Pacific!with!adequate!climate!financing.!

2. THE POPE AT THE UN On!September!24!the!Pope!will!address!the!General!Assembly!at!the!UN.!This!is!an!opportunity!to!connect!our!call!for!climate!justice!with!our!allies!in!the!faith!communities!around!Australia.!!

On!this!day,!we!will!work!with!faith!communities!across!Australia!to!start!a!conversation!around!what!it!will!take!to!protect!the!common!good!and!how!we!can!stand!together!in!unity.!

3. NAOMI KLEIN DOCUMENTARY RELEASE!Naomi!Klein’s!book!has!had!a!huge!impact!on!social!movement!across!the!world!–!uniting!people!with!a!vision!that!asks!us!to!fundamentally!review!the!social!and!economic!structures!that!underpin!our!society.!

On!October!25,!the!documentary!to!accompany!her!book!will!be!released.!We!will!organise!distributed!screening!events!across!the!country,!inviting!people!to!be!a!part!of!the!mobilisations!in!November.!!!

5. AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST EVER DOOR KNOCK On!November!14!–!two!weeks!out!from!our!mobilisations!–!we!will!take!to!the!streets!to!talk!with!our!neighbours!about!the!impacts!of!climate!change!and!why!we!need!to!stand!together!against!the!big!polluting!companies!and!politicians!on!their!payroll.!

Across!Australia!we!will!organize!to!knock!on!doors!and!have!faceItoIface!conversations!with!people!to!activate!their!shared!social!values.!!

6. CLIMATE MOBILISATIONS Around!the!country,!we!will!gather!to!show!our!strength,!to!represent!our!diversity!and!unite!to!protect!Australia’s!future.!

It!will!be!a!creative,!bold!and!fun!rally!that!will!facilitate!new!relationships!across!our!movement!and!forge!new!alliances.!It!will!make!us!a!more!diverse!and!powerful!movement.!!

2016 7. PARIS AND BEYOND Our!work!does!not!stop!in!December!after!the!Paris!COP.!We!will!keep!demanding!strong!and!effective!action!on!climate!change!in!2016,!at!the!next!federal!election!and!beyond.!At!the!climate!mobilisations!in!November,!we!will!launch!a!shared!plan!that!lays!out!the!pathway!for!how!we!can!work!together!in!2016!and!beyond!to!ensure!we!are!on!a!path!to!a!cleaner,!fairer!economy!that!tackles!the!challenge!of!climate!change.

4. TYPHOON HAIYAN ANNIVERSARY!On!November!2,!2013!the!worst!typhoon!in!recorded!history!made!landfall!the!Philippines!killing!thousands!of!people.!!

Extreme!weather!events!across!the!world!are!increasing!in!frequency!and!severity.!Black!Saturday!fires!and!floods!in!Queensland!have!not!only!caused!death,!but!they!have!ruined!many!people’s!lives!and!thrown!them!into!chaos.!!On!this!day,!across!Australia,!we!will!gather!to!honor!those!who!have!already!lost!their!lives!to!climate!change.!
