Hello families,

Are you tired of the turkey leftovers yet? Usually I can handle about two days of turkey soup, sandwiches or casseroles and then I have to call it quits. But I love this sea-son and the hope it brings. In John 12:24, Jesus taught, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” We know that Jesus is referring to himself, as his crucifixion and resurrection would bring new life to all who believes in Him. I always think of this parable as the leaves fall and the grass begins to turn yellow. We know that this is the season for the living earth to die so that it can bloom again in the spring.

Do you know that the Church calendar begins today with the season of Advent?

We all know that Advent is the time when we have the purple and pink candles at the front of the church, and that we are on the countdown for Christmas. But this year, I think we should all challenge ourselves to go further in our devotion during this season. There are so many websites with free resources, be sure and check them out! www.usccb.org, http://www.ignatianspirituality.com/advent, http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/Advent/, http://catholicmom.com/faith/

advent/, and more. Just google it and see what you can find. This year we are in cycle A.

Maybe your family can do a simple Bible reading before bed, or gather to pray for those less fortunate. Maybe this Advent, you can start new family traditions and commit to learning with each other about the Saints or a part of Scripture. Be sure to set out an Ad-vent wreath and light your candles, even if just for a few minutes during dinner or in the evening. Probably the best thing we can do is to find the child within us who can still sense

the excitement, wonder and hope, as we await the birth of our Savior.

In the wonder and hope of Christ, Melissa Hill Garcia

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo

Dear friends in Christ,,

Thank you to Ralph Marasco Sr. for his 20 plus years of service on the Foundation Board. He

has been of service in many ways, the Foundation Board is just one of them. God bless him.

Thank him when you see him.

Also a word of thanks to Joe Graziano, who has served as parish trustee. With the expiration of

Joe’s term, the parish joins me in thanking him for the outstanding job he has done for us. Joe,

along with Ralph, are sincerely invested in the life our parish, and because of that investment they have benefitted us

in countless ways. Personal investment is what makes a parish great. God bless you Joe and Ralph. Thank Joe when

you see him too.

It is my every confidence that both Joe and Ralph will continue to share their gifts and talents with us here at our par-

ish.

With the dawn of another Advent season, I invite you to slow down a bit, and reflect on the meaning of this season. It’s

all about Christ coming into our hearts and homes. Take time to examine how Christ can become more the central fig-

ure in our lives together. A few questions: Do we ever pray as a family? Try it, it can bring a bushel of blessings to you

and yours. Do we ever talk about God’s plan for our lives? Do we refer to God’s will in our conversations? Do we every

greet someone with, “God bless you”? Just a few suggestions for your advent journey.

Peace and all good things.
