TRANSCRIPT
Beginning November 20th, 2013,
our school embarked on a special
project, a school-wide book club
called One School, One Book.
Every family from kindergarten
through sixth grade received a
copy of the same book, E.B.
White’s Stuart Little. Teachers,
staff and Principal Joe Sampson
are also reading the book, one
chapter each day for 15 days.
This is the 2nd year our school has par-
ticipated in One School, One Book. Ms.
Livingston said, “Year one was a big
success, and I hope this year is even bet-
ter.”
Students received a copy of the book at
an assembly November 20th. Stuart
Little
and
Hum-
phrey
the
Hamster
were spe-
cial
guests
and the
kids did
a great
job reading their cue cards and agree-
ing that, “Yes, we will,” read Stuart
Little.
Students will read the final chapter
December 18th. To encourage students
to read a chapter a night, students
answer trivia questions announced on
the Hornets News show and posted on
the bulletin board outside the media
center.
Parents learned about our school’s
new book at the Family Reading Night
program November 20th. Families also
were able to participate in reading and
writing activities, learn about early
literacy and enjoy a delicious spaghetti
dinner. Over 80 students and families
attended Family Reading Night.

Third-grade teacher Ms. Branham
works with students to practice writing
letters to each other or family. What a
fun way to write!
Ms. Becks’ second-grade class welcomed a
new pet into their classroom. The class
adopted a bearded dragon. Students are
learning about taking care of their reptile.
Ms. Becks says the students really enjoy
reading to Mushu.
Ms. Becks purchased the pet with a grant
from petsintheclassroom.org. Pets in the
Classroom has also funded Humphrey the
hamster (library) and the office fish.
