Sacrificial Giving and some thoughts…..
1 Corinthians 4:1 “Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and Stewards of God’s mysteries.”
Did you prepare yourselves today to be a living sacri-fice to God? What kind of sacrifice does God want? How is your stewardship of God’s creation sacrificed? Each Sunday, we present ourselves at God’s altar at Mass—we pray for God’s mercy that we and our gifts are acceptable.
SACRED HEART PARISH IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant
will work as a vital part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to
Passionately Live the Gospel’ to realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical
services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, coordinating cantors and accompanists, and
maintaining the pipe organ and piano. A full job description can be found at sacredheartaberdeen.net/employment-opportunities. Interested candidates are
asked to send a copy of their resume and an accompanying cover letter to Fr. Mark Lichter, Pastor of Sacred Heart, at [email protected], or by mail to 502 2nd Ave SE Aberdeen, SD 57401.
This is the last week of the Church year. We celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. As a Church we have been reflecting on our mortality and the end of times. All moves to our Savior Jesus Christ. The only way we can have meaning in death is through the love of Jesus Christ. Jesus shows us this immense love by dying on the cross and opening the gates of heaven. We read in the preface today these words: “For you anointed your Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, with the oil of gladness as eternal Priest and King of all creation, so that by offering himself on the altar of the Cross as a spotless sacrifice to bring us peace, he might accomplish the mysteries of human redemption and, mak-ing all created things subject to his rule, he might present to the immensity of your majesty an eternal and univer-sal kingdom, a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace.” These prayers emphasize Jesus as the beginning and the end, the first and the last, the alpha and the omega, and our all in all! In fact we begin with Jesus at the start of the church calendar year with Advent and the birth of Our Lord at Christmas. It also follows the life of Christ throughout the Church year and ends with the Lord Jesus as the King of the Universe. May Sacred Heart Parishioners make the Lord, the King of their lives and live out this great mystery of faith.
We also celebrate our monthly Vision Sunday, where we ask God to give us the grace to “Invite Everyone to Pas-sionately Live the Gospel.” The homily this weekend will center in what it means to live the Gospel. Thomas Eskro our Director of Evangelization and Discipleship has a bulletin insert that also gives more food for thought on living the Gospel. The Gospel cannot be imposed on anyone, but it can be proposed to all of us. The Gospel message is often taught, but it needs to be caught! The fire of God’s love has to catch us! We need to be set on fire with God’s love for us! We need to fall in love with God!
Below are a few more thoughts from the retreat I came back from a few weeks ago. The grace I was praying for was a daily Psalm Response, “In you O Lord, I have found my peace!” This week ask God for this grace. God will give you a deep down peace that no one can take away. The scripture passage I reflected on was from Mat-thew 6:25-34. “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious….” “Look at the birds of the air...consider the lilies of the field…” “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…..” “Do not be anxious about tomorrow….today has enough worries of its own.” Peace. Fr. Mark
