And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom(s) of this world are become the kingdom(s) of efei, and of his Messiah; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Revelation 11:15

The 7th Trumpet

• Do not confuse this trumpet with “the last trumpet” (1st Corinthians 15:52)– The Feast of Trumpets contains a series of short

trumpet blasts followed by a long blast known as the tekiah gedolah (the great trumpet)

– This is known as the last trumpet• Chronologically, the trumpet of Matthew 24:31

must follow this 7th trumpet, for it occurs after the tribulation at Messiah’s Second Coming (Matthew 24:30)

Page 6: November 21, 2009

The 7th Trumpet

• The Second Coming occurs later in this book (Revelation 19:11-16) which is also after the time expressed here

• In the book of Revelation, this 7th trumpet is never called “last” (Rev. 1:11, 17; 2:8, 19; 15:1. 21:9; 22:13)

• The 7th trumpet takes place over an extended period of time, not “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,…”

Page 7: November 21, 2009

The 7th Trumpet

• The 7th trumpet is typified by the 7 trumpets of the conquest of Jericho by Joshua

• While it is out of line with 1st Corinthians 15:52, it is directly in line with Joel 2:1-2 (next slide)

Blow the horn in Zion; sound the alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the residents of the land tremble, for the Day of the LORD is coming; in fact, it is near-- a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and dense overcast, like the dawn spreading over the mountains; a great and strong people appears, such as never existed in ages past and never will again in all the generations to come.

Joel 2:1-2

Revelation 11:15

•basileia - Kingdom (singular)•Efei is opening the vault of Heaven and showing

us the conclusion of all of history – it’s all overbut the singing

Page 10: November 21, 2009

The Kingdom (Singular)

• Below are three times in the Gospels, we see that Satan controls a kingdom on Earth:– Messiah accused of being empowered by Satan

Matthew 12:22-26; Luke 11:14-18

– Messiah is offered the “domain” (NASB) of SatanLuke 4:1-6

– The Father rescued us from the domain of darknessColossians 1:13

Page 11: November 21, 2009

The Kingdom (Singular)

• Thus we see that all of the world’s diverse national, political, social, cultural, linguistic, and religious groups are in reality one kingdom under one king

Page 12: November 21, 2009

And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom(s) of this world are become the kingdom(s) of efei, and of his Messiah; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Revelation 11:15

• This is so certain, it is treated as if it has already happened•However, it will not arrive in full until after the 7

bowl judgments are poured forth and the King returns

Isa. 63:1-6; Zec. 12:1-9; 14:1-8; Rev. 19:11-21

Are Become…

• That day is described in many passages in the Scripture:– Psalm 22:27-28– Psalm 72:8-11– Isaiah 9:7– Daniel 2:44– Daniel 7:14– Zechariah 14:9-11– Luke 1:32-33

And when He returns, He will rule from a Hebraic perspective, and many of our NT church brethren are going to be surprised to find that their King really is Jewish!

Efei and Messiah

• The original word used here (Christou) means The Anointed One or Messiah

• It speaks of His office as the promised Anointed One and is a direct allusion to the Father’s pronouncement concerning the Son in Psalm 2:

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against efei, and against his anointed, saying,” Psalm 2:1-2

Page 16: November 21, 2009

Efei and Messiah

• The seventh trumpet proclaims the impending fulfillment of Psalm 2, especially verses 7-9 which will be realized in the pouring forth of the final seven bowls:

“I will declare the decree: efei hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”Psalm 2:7-9

And the four and twenty elders, which sat before Elohim on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped Elohim,

Saying, We give thee thanks, O efei Elohim Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

Revelation 11:16,17

Which art, and wast…

• There are some scripture translations that do not include “…and art to come;”– The NASB reads as follows:

"We give You thanks, O efei Elohim, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign.”

Page 19: November 21, 2009

Revelation 11:16,17

• “Have begun to reign” may be more accurate

And the nations were pleased, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Revelation 11:18

Page 22: November 21, 2009

The Nations Were Angry

• Why are the nations angry?– They want to have their own way (Ps 2:1-3)– They want to cast off all restraint– Efei will permit them to do so– The result of their “utopia” is Rev 17-18– Their anger will lead to Armageddon

Page 23: November 21, 2009

23Mastering “…the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

The Nations Were Angry

• His response to them was predicted a long time ago:

“Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.” Psalm 2:5

• The nations of the Tribulation are ruled by unwise kings (Rev. 17:12; 19:19) who fail to “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.” (Ps. 2:12a)

Thy Wrath Is Come

• “Angry” is the verb form of the word translated “wrath.”

• Only the last half of the 70th week will reveal the wrath of God (11:18; 14:10; 16:19; 19:15)

• Two Greek words used:– orge, used here (4X), indignation, a settled attitude of

wrath; and– thumos (7X: 14:10, 19; 15:1, 7; 16:1, 19; 19:15),

“rage, passionate anger.”

Page 26: November 21, 2009

26Mastering “…the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

Thy Wrath Is Come

• God’s anger is not dispassionate, for He hates sin and loves righteousness and justice; neither temperamental or unpredictable [In contrast to Allah who is presented as capricious...]

Page 27: November 21, 2009

• The wrath of efei speaks of the entire period of the judgments which are being loosed upon the earth, beginning with the first seal loosed by the Lamb (Rev 6:1). Even the earth dwellers understood that efei’s wrath was being poured forth at the time of the opening of the sixth seal (Rev 6:16-17)– Yet, this statement is made in response to the sounding of the

seventh trumpet which proclaims a period of intensified judgment specifically characterized as seven “bowls of the wrath of God” (Rev 15:7; 16:1)

– In these impending “seven last plagues . . . the wrath of efei is complete” (Rev 15:1)

• Everyone will face the judgment (Hebrews 9:27)• Daniel was told that the time of Jacob’s trouble

would precede the time of the judgment of the dead; and

• That there would be two categories of resurrection– To everlasting life– To shame and everlasting contempt (Daniel 12:1-3)

• We will soon see that these categories are separated by at least 1,000 years

The Time of the Dead

Page 30: November 21, 2009

30Mastering “…the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

• The righteous dead are resurrected by the beginning of the Millennial Kingdom in order to participate therein

• The unrighteous dead are not resurrected until after the final rebellion at the close of the Millennial Kingdom– The resurrection of the unrighteous dead and their

final judgment is referred to as “the second death”

The Time of the Dead

Page 31: November 21, 2009

31Mastering “…the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

• For the righteous dead who participate in the first resurrection preceding the Millennial Kingdom “the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” (Rev 20:6)

• Although the righteous dead will stand before the judgment seat of Christ, it is for reward rather than punishment and those who trust in Messiah cannot themselves be lost (1st Cor 3:13-15; 2nd Cor 5:10)

The Time of the Dead

Believers will not undergo judgment for

their sins because Messiah has taken

their sins upon Himself in their stead

The Time of the Dead

Page 33: November 21, 2009

33Mastering “…the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

• The judgment of all those throughout history who reject Christ occurs at the Great White Throne (Rev 20:11)– This judgment cannot transpire until every last

rejecter of Christ has met physical death– This is one of the purposes found in the loosing of

Satan for the final rebellion at the end of the Millennium (Rev 20:7-9)—to manifest the last generation of Messiah-rejectors prior to the judgment

The Time of the Dead

Page 34: November 21, 2009

34Mastering “…the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

• The result of the Great White Throne Judgment is the assigning of varying degrees of punishment, based on works, and the casting of the unsaved dead into the Lake of Fire

• “This is the second death” (Rev 20:14)– Messiah promised that the overcomer would not

participate in the second death

The Time of the Dead

• The results which flow from the outworking of the seventh trumpet include – The outpouring of the seven bowls of wrath (Rev 16)– The return of Messiah (Rev 19)– The Millennial Kingdom (Rev 20:4-6)– The Great White Throne Judgment (Rev 20:11-15)

• This is the heavenly temple (Isaiah 6:1-4; Rev 7:15; 14:15, 17; 15:5-6, 8; 16:1, 17), not the earthly temple in Jerusalem (Rev 11:1-2)

• The chapter begins and ends with Temples:– The earthly Temple in Jerusalem, and– This Temple in heaven is opened to reveal its contents

to us

Revelation 11:19

Page 40: November 21, 2009

• There is a unique relationship between the word of God and judgment

• It is God’s word which establishes the righteous requirements for obedience and underwrites the definition of righteous judgment

• The appearance of the Ark of His covenant emphasizes that which will be used as the standard for judgment

The Ark in Heaven

Page 41: November 21, 2009

41Mastering “…the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

• It is because of man’s willful disobedience and rebellion in the light of the standard of the law that God’s righteous judgment is required

• His wrath is measured by the distance between the contents of the written requirements in the ark versus the actions of sinful men
