Message from Exalted Ruler Jere Williams

Well the holidays are here. It’s time to spend warm wishes and cheer not only with our families but with our Brother and Sister Elks. The Lodge continues to be a busy place. The car show just concluded and many thanks to Loke and Ron for a great event. The Veterans BBQ lunch will be on Nov 11th at the Lodge. All Veterans and one guest of their choice are free. Please come, join in the good food and thank our veterans for all they have done for our country. The Members bar, with the NFL season at the midpoint, is rocking and rolling. Come cheer on your favorite teams (hopefully the 49ers) and enjoy the hospitality of our Lodge. As the Christmas season approaches, lets keep in mind others who are less fortunate than us. The fires in Napa and Sonoma have displaced many families. We have donated jackets and a truck load of goods to the effort and we will coordinate with our Bay District Lodges to see what other aid can be sent to those in need. Finally, the Lodge has been extremely busy upgrading it’s facilities. The new lighting project has been approved and hopefully will begin in a month or two. Discussions have been taking place on the new California Catering contract and the removal of the Elks heads in the Lodge with an upgraded video system. These issues will be discussed in the upcoming Lodge meetings so if you do not attend the meetings and vote your conscience, then your voice will not be heard or counted. until next time…Fraternally…Jere PS Please remember the DDGER Visitation , Dinner and Lodge Meting on October 26th. Tickets are on sale in the Secretary’s Office

Message from our First Lady – Geri Williams Happy Autumn to All. This season has always been my favorite, partly because of the smell of autumn in the air, but for the most part because it is the harbinger of the Holiday season to come. And it seems to mellow people, and bring out the generous and giving spirit that is within us all. This is evident in the giving nature of the Elks and their families. Kudos for the recent outpouring from our Lodge of clothes, blankets, and other essential items to the victims of the firestorm in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties. Special thanks to Tammy Keller for undertaking the task of loading up her truck and transporting all the donated items to our affected neighbors to the north. In a similar thread I would like to thank all the Elks members who have donated toiletry items picked up from hotels during your vacations. In a previous newsletter I mentioned my intent to package the items and have them delivered to veterans organizations. Update: I will be organizing a "packaging date" for the toiletry items next month (date to be determined), with the goal of packaging them as Christmas/Holiday gifts. Many thanks to Our Lecturing Knight John Junier for being our connection to the VFW, who will dispense our little packages to our Veterans. If anybody is interested in helping on the assembly line, I'd love to have you. And please keep collecting the toiletry items. My hope is to have assembly parties throughout the year. I'll also be sharing with you in next month's newsletter another project, that is currently in the planning stages, involving our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Have a happy Halloween, whether you're the Treater or the costumed Trick or Treater. I hope to see many of you at the Halloween Dinner Dance, where we can all let our inner child out for the night. Your First Lady, 👻👻🎃🎃 Geri 💀💀🍭🍭

Charity Corner

Well here we are! The lodge year is half done. Here comes the holidays and charity to all doesn't stop. There is still a lot to do especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. Thanks to all Lodge Members that helped contribute donations to the Catholic Worker House in San Bruno (it was really appreciated by them, they sent us a beautiful thank you letter). The purple pig drawing will be on hiatus until Thursday, January 25, 2018. As always, thank you for supporting the purple pig through the drawing and bringing in a purple pig filled with money that helps our disabled children. Fraternally yours, Joe Tice

ENF Donor Bill of Rights

The Elks National Foundation considers philanthropy to be a voluntary action for the public good. It is this tradition of giving and sharing that drives and supports our work. To assure that our donors can have full confidence in the ENF and the programs we ask them to support, we declare that all of our donors have the following rights:

1. To be informed of the Elks National Foundation’s mission, of the way we intend to use donated resources, and of our capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purpose.

2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the Elks National Foundation’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.

3. To have access to the Elks National Foundation’s most recent financial statements.

4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

5. To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition. 6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled

with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by the law.

7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing the ENF will be professional in nature.

8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the Elks National Foundation or hired solicitors.

9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that the Elks National Foundation may intend to share. (Note: The ENF does not sell or share its mailing lists.)

10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

12TH ANNUAL CARE SHOW As you are aware the car held on October 15 was the 12th Annual Car Show held at the SSF Elks Lodge 2091. At the time the planning of the show waw very intense, but the sure determination of the car show committee created a successful event. Also, I would like to extend my gratitude to the volunteers who worked very hard with each other to bring this event to a successful end. It is a great thing to have the Elk’s and the community work together and also is a good way to promote future membership. Way to go people! Again, thank you very much for all your help and determination.

Heard by the Herd You have to see the members bar in person to appreciate how nice it looks. The members who participated in the beautification project should be proud of their work in creating an environment we can all enjoy. Great job. It must be my age. I still can't get used to all the monikers people use today. Dude, homes, bro, etc. What happened to people calling you by your name, or sir, or just saying 'hi'. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a cowboy and I take offense to being called a dude. A dude to me is a city slicker who goes to a ranch and can't ride a horse. Well even though I was born in a big city, and I'm sort of afraid of horses, I still don't want to be called a dude. I've got four brothers and we don't even call each other 'bro.' and homes, I just don't know. It must be my age, I forgot my point. I saw Satish in the bar on a Tuesday night wearing a Kevin Durant”Warriors" jersey. I was surprised as I just assumed his favorite jersey would be 'Curry'. After 5 yrs., Frank our TWC electrician finally saw his dream come to reality when Our Lodge voted to approve changing all the lights in our Lodge to L.E.D. lighting. Much work was necessary by the House Committee, The Board of Trustees, and our E.R. to bring this to fruition. This should save our Lodge much money over the years. Thanks Frank for your tenacity. Just keep the microphone out of his hands. If you didn't know, the Grand Lodge mandates that our bar be shut down during our two monthly meetings that last 1 to 2 hrs. This is done to encourage attendance at our meetings. Believe it or not, we have member(s) who would rather sit at the bar in the dark and complain about not being able to watch a game on T.V. then come to the meeting. Oh well. Our Lodge didn't make this rule, but I think it's a reasonable one. At our last meeting, Oct 12th, we had only two members present who were not Officers. Sad I heard through the grapevine that our Lodge is again considering removing the Elk Heads in our Lodge meeting/dining room. It is planned they be replaced with a projection T.V system. This will allow our Lodge much more latitude in providing visual orientations for our members and others who rent through Calif Catering which will make our Lodge a more attractive venue. This could be a large boon in the income our Lodge receives which

would allow us to contribute more to the charities of our choice which is one of the main reasons for our existence. The Elks Heads don't make us Elks, our members do. Remember, the common cold lasts about 2 weeks if left. If treated with medication and rest, it only lasts about 14 days. This is us, Charlie Domerofski PER
