Attention 4-H Families:
The 2017-18 4-H program year is underway and we are grateful for all the support and dedication of our 4-H volunteers who have made this past year a successful one. If you wish to continue receiving this newsletter and be enrolled in the 4-H program you will need to complete attached enrollment form and return it to the Hardin County Extension Office by December 31st.
It is once again me to register for the 2018 KY State Fair 4‐H Country Ham Project. Registra ons will be on a first come basis as we con nue to work coopera vely with Larue County. Par cipants will be required to give their speech at the county talk meet and state fair. Juniors will give a 3‐5 minute speech on “Steps to curing a country ham” while seniors will give a presenta on on “Dry Cured Hams of the World”. Senior speeches must be at least 2 minutes or they will be disqualified and risk forfei ng their hams at the state level. Registra on deadline is Monday, December 11th. Cost is $60/youth (2 hams). 2017 will mark the 44th Anniversary of the North American International Livestock Expo held October 31st ‐ November 16th at the KY Fair & Exposition Center in Louisville. Livestock enthusiasts from all around the world gather to show and exhibit a variety of breeds. To learn more about the schedule of events check out their new website at www.livestockexpo.org . Those of you who enjoy the action of rodeo will want to be sure to catch the action each night November 9, 10, 11.
Youth ages 5‐18 are invited to design a Piggy Bank, made from recycled materials. If you are interested, please see the enclosed flyers for more informa on. Piggy Banks must be turned in by Friday, December 1st to the Hardin County Extension Office.

SAVE THE DATE! Friday, December 8th 6:00 p.m. for the 2016‐17 4‐H Recogni on Banquet for all Hardin County 4‐H members and their families. Clubs will be ask to: prepare a 5‐8 minute presenta on of ac vi es/events of what members are involved in throughout the year AND to bring enough dessert to serve those in their club. Your 4‐H council has a great meal planned, so make plans to enjoy food and fellowship with other 4‐H members and their families.
Fall is upon us and colder weather is just around the corner. If you like to make new friends, go swimming every day and have LOTS OF FUN you will want to begin planning to a end 4‐H summer camp July 10 – 13 at Dawson Springs 4‐H Camp. PARENTS, sending your child to 4‐H summer camp would make a nice GIFT FOR THE HOLIDAYS! Those interested in ge ng a jump on Fun in the Sun call the Extension Office at (270) 765‐4121 and ask for 4‐H secretary, Jessica Vincent.
You are invited to a end our Santa’s 4‐H Cra Workshop on Saturday, December 2 from 9:00‐12:00 p.m.! You will get to make several cra s to take home and either enjoy them yourselves for the holidays or use as gi s! There is no cost to par cipate and light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP with Joni at the Extension Office (270) 765‐4121 to let us know you plan on coming so we can be well pre‐pared!

4‐H COUNCIL 4‐H council delegates and leaders were excited to learn that the newly formed Audrey Shoulders Country Ham Endowment was up to $13,600 in total dona ons. They wish to THANK everyone for going the extra mile as they showed support for the Shoulders Family and the county 4‐H program. It was also noted that the TSC Clover Campaign raised a record $31,454 with 30,919 paper clover sales state wide. Proceeds from the clover campaign are used for summer camp and leadership programs. Dates for the 2018 campaign are: Spring April 25 – May 6th and Fall October 3rd – October 14th.
“4‐H Come Grow with Us” is the theme for the 2017 Recogni on Banquet to be held on Friday, December 8th, 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Anyone wishing to help with decora ons and setup are welcome to come at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8th as all hands on deck will be appreciated.
The next council mee ng will be held at 6:30 p.m. on January 25th .
VINE GROVE BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL A special THANK YOU to everyone who took me from their busy schedule to help serve ice cream during the Vine Grove Bluegrass Fes val in September. Thanks to your efforts the 4‐H council raised over $1200 for county 4‐H programs/ac vi es all while enjoying some great bluegrass music!
KY AG TAG PROMOTION THANKS to the support of the people in Hardin County, we placed 3rd in the state for the Ag Tag Promo on with $3753 coming back to the county to be used for events and ac vi es. Warren County was 1st, followed by Logan County 2nd .
“4‐H BASICS & BEYOND” VOLUNTEER TRAINING NEW! On Tuesday, November 28th, we invite you to join us at a 4‐H Volunteer Training that will cover “4‐H Basics & Beyond.” The training will be general in nature and is appropriate for current volunteers or those wishing to start volunteering. Topics to be covered include: Ages and Stages, Handling Group Problems, Fundraising, Community Service, Recogni on, the Achievement Program, Parent Involvement, etc. Also, re‐cer fica on hours will be given to livestock and horse volunteers in a endance.

KY 4‐H VOLUNTEER FORUM Calling all volunteers! We invite you to join us at the KY Volunteer Forum Feb 8‐10, 2018 at the Hya Regency Lexington! Over 125 workshops and seminars‐on‐wheels will be available for you to learn more about what volunteer opportuni es 4‐H and the Extension Service has to offer. During the October mee ng members painted pumpkins just in me for Halloween. Come join them for their next mee ng at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 13th at the Extension Office. Chelsea from the Bun Bun Brigade will be the guest speaker. It is a great opportunity to learn about rabbits and meet new friends! Several members dressed up and passed out candy during the Rineyville Days parade. The club elected officers during their October 9th mee ng: Rachel Bialzik, Reporter; Alexandra Bialzik, Secretary; Gabrielle Dishno, Vice President and Priscilla Riggs, President.

The annual “Barn Dance” was a BIG HIT with Candence Dukes winning the costume contest and Mar na Bunnell winning the pumpkin decora ng contest. A big THANK YOU to the Filyaw’s and Jay Trujillo for helping to make the hay ride a success and to the Roby’s for the music entertainment. Club members are looking forward to a ending the North American Rodeo on November 11th at the KY Fair & Expo Center in Louisville. The next business mee ng will be at 6:30 p.m. on November 13th at the Extension Office. Commi ee groups will meet to begin working on upcoming events and community service and the $5 dues will also be collected at the November mee ng. Hippology dates are November 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th at the Extension Office. We would like to wish the BEST OF LUCK to the Lego Dragons Robo cs Club as they prepare to compete at the UK/Bluegrass Regional Qualifying Tournament on Saturday, December 2 at the University of Kentucky! They have been working hard and we would like to wish them well!
Clover Buds are youth ages 5‐8 that are s ll too young for the majority of our other 4‐H programs but would like to learn about that 4‐H has to offer! The next mee ng for 4‐H Clover Bud members will be Saturday, November 18 from 10:00 ‐ 12:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. We would love to see you there! On October 27th, Teen Club met at Thomas Farm and Market for fall ac vi es like corn mazes, bonfires, paintball and a haunted house. HOME SCHOOL CHEFS
Homeschool Chefs elected Officers at October mee ng: President‐ Rianna Rivera; Vice‐President—Connor Bumpas; Secretary ‐ Elisabeth Arneson; we have a vacancy for reporter. Our next mee ng will be November 16th will make s r‐fry at our new me 10:00 a.m. ‐12:00 noon. We will par cipate in a community service project in January. Enrollment for Bobbins Sewing is now FULL! Mrs. Gail, Mrs. Wanda and Ms. Jean have had their hands full with a wonderful group of beginning and returning youth! Next mee ng for Bobbins will be Wednesday, November 8 at 4:00 p.m. Don’t forget to bring your supplies for the Dog Coats you’ll be making – ½ yard fleece, matching thread and 6 in Velcro.

We wish to extend our apprecia on to all of the volunteers, businesses, homemakers, Hardin County EMS, Glendale Fire Department, Farm Bureau, Fair Board, Central and North Hardin FFA along with Creekside, Vine Grove, Howevalley, Lakewood, Rineyville and St. James Elementary schools for helping to make our 2017 Progressive Ag Safety Day a day to remember! We could not do this without the community support.
