FIRST WORDS 04Is It All Doom And Gloom For The Rental Business In Malaysia?Lack of international concerts and most recently a Beer festival that has been a regular fixture in Kuala Lumpur for the past couple of years that had their permit plugged. The beer festival was deemed by a political party as the “biggest centre of vice in Asia.” With an

election coming up soon, is this all political noise or is this a new norm?

Jay Neil, from EHQ projects, highlights that the concert scene has been slow and hard for the promoters over the last two years mainly due to the currency exchange and the shortage of venues as most of the venues were under renovation to make way for the two games that was hosted recently in Kuala Lumpur – the SEA Games and the Para SEA Games.

Jay is however very positive that the scene and the market will start to pick up and the promoters in Malaysia have already started to book more acts for 2018.

“As for political play, for a country like Malaysia being divided into many races and political parties it is really normal for us to go through a lot of obstacles but I think with the forming of ALIFE which is a body set-up by the promoters, venue operators and suppliers, we have seen some changes and hopefully in the near future we will have less red tape in doing a concert here.

As for the beer festival to be honest we had this festival for many years but again I would say some times the organisers go overboard and brand it with out taking in consideration that this is still a Muslim country. If only some of us abide with some of the rules and just go with the flow without going over board than I think we be able to do more shows here,” said Jay.

Artiste Dali, Proteus Hybrid Innovation Award Winners At PLASA 2017

UK: This year's PLASA Show was an exceptional one for Elation Professional - the company’s new full-featured Artiste Dali LED moving head and IP-rated Proteus Hybrid discharge-lamp moving head were both recognised as exceptional innovations with a PLASA Award for Innovation.

On hand to accept the awards were Elation President Toby Velazquez and Elation Sales Director Eric Loader. “This PLASA will always be special,” Eric Loader said shortly after the ceremony. “We’re humbled and honoured to have won two PLASA awards for product innovation. We continue to listen to designers and rental houses about their needs and continue to break the glass ceiling of perception that quality must be expensive by bringing innovative products to market with excellent price-value ratios. The Artiste Dali and Proteus Hybrid are great examples of that. Congratulations to our entire Elation team who worked so hard on getting these new products to market.”

The Artiste Dali and Proteus Hybrid were acknowledged as ground-breaking innovations at a ceremony held at the Olympia Exhibition Center in London. “This is the first time the judges have seen a diffracted laser in an LED spot luminaire, making for a very versatile product," the judging panel said of the Artiste Dali. Of the Proteus Hybrid, the judges stated, "The innovative approach to cooling has enabled this to be the first IP rated hybrid moving discharge luminaire."

Both products attracted a great deal of interest throughout the 3-day show. The Artiste Dali, which saw its world debut, is a full-featured moving head with a unique hybrid light engine that combines a 300-watt LED source and 100-watt Laser Phosphor source for greater spot and beam capabilities from one fixture.

The multi-environmental Proteus Hybrid – also an LDI Best Debuting Product Award winner in 2016 – is a discharge-lamp moving head light with spot, beam, and wash modes that gives designers the freedom to utilize this latest technology at any event, indoors or out.

Both products are available for purchase now through Elation’s worldwide partner network.

The PLASA Awards for Innovation have long been respected for their independent and impartial judging panel of industry experts. The Artiste Dali and Proteus Hybrid accolades follow PLASA Innovation Awards for the Elation Sniper 2R in 2014 and the Elation Platinum FLX in 2015.

Claypaky K-EYE Wins At The PLASA AwardsGLOBAL: The Claypaky K-EYE HCR has won the PLASA Award for Innovation, the most renowned and distinguished prize in the entertainment lighting industry. The award is a highly significant prize specifically because it places great emphasis on product innovation, which is one of Claypaky's underlying key values.

The jury gave the following motivation for the award: “A new approach to accurate colour rendering starting at chip level rather than manipulating existing sources.”

Pio Nahum, Claypaky's CEO, welcomed this acknowledgement with great pleasure and illustrated the original specifications behind the K-EYE's design: "For years, our most demanding customers felt the need for a light that differed from the others not so much for the number of special effect devices, but also and especially for the 'quality' of the light it produced. This is a very difficult parameter to define, since it relates to perception: it is the sum of multiple factors such as diffusion uniformity, colour temperature, colour control features, and most of all a high colour rendering index. To meet these requirements, Claypaky and Osram have developed a technology named HCR, used in the K-EYE range and in ADB's Klemantis."

K-EYE HCR: a joint Claypaky - Osram projectThe heart of the K-EYE HCR wash light is a LED light source consisting of a module with six chips, each for a different colour: besides the three “classic” basic red, green and blue colours, Claypaky has added amber, cyan and lime. This exclusive Claypaky technology provides a very wide colour range with excellent colour spectrum coverage.

Alongside the LED-light-source heart of this system is its brain: the brand new sophisticated software algorithm that controls its functions. The light produced by the K-EYE is very high quality, with a CRI that reaches values that have never been achieved before by LEDs: typical CRI values range from 97 up to 99. These values were previously only possible with traditional light sources.

Lighting designers who were not satisfied with the performances of LED devices in comparison with traditional lamps, in particular because of their incomplete colour range, poor colour rendering index and lack of consistency, will finally be able to produce every colour, every nuance and every shade with K-EYE HCR luminaires.

A complete range for a wide variety of applicationsClaypaky's advanced HCR technology is available in a wide range of fixtures to ensure maximum flexibility of use:• K-EYE HCR K20: moving head wash light, 37 LED

modules, 750 VA, 11,000 lm.• K-EYE HCR K10: moving head wash light, 19 LED

modules, 450 VA, 5,500 lm.• K-EYE HCR S20: static wash light, 32 LED modules, 500

VA (tilt adjustable over 210°).• K-EYE HCR K10: static wash light, 17 LED modules, 300

VA (tilt adjustable over 210°).

The K-EYE HCR is suitable for use in all professional fields of application where great brightness, a wide range of colours, and a high CRI are particularly appreciated: theatres, television studios, showrooms, exhibitions, and fashion shows.

Pio Nahum added: "On behalf of the whole company, I would like to congratulate the entire R&D team, which has created a winning product that rewards the joint efforts of Claypaky and our colleagues at Osram."

MAJ Launches Latest Martin Audio Products In Tokyo

JAPAN: Martin Audio Japan Inc recently launched the British manufacturer’s latest range of products at the Nakano Zero Theatre in Tokyo. This was the first territorial exposé of the new suite which received its global premier earlier this year at Frankfurt’s Prolight+Sound Show to widespread acclaim.

Supporting the Tokyo event was Martin Audio R&D Director, Jason Baird. He first introduced the LE and XE floor monitors before turning to the Wavefront Precision WPM and WPC line arrays after the intermission.

Developed in consultation with leading monitor engineers and combining sleek, low-profile enclosures with unique Coaxial Differential Dispersion technology, the XE300 (1 x 12” LF) and XE500 (1 x 15” LF) are designed to deliver perfect monitor sound with a defined coverage pattern that allows the artist freedom of movement, while reducing overlap with adjacent monitors. The LE100 (1 x 12” LF”) and the LE200 (1 x 15” LF) bring engineering innovation to everyday stage monitoring — delivering exceptional performance at an unbelievable price point.

Both the WPC (2 x 10” LF) and WPM (2 x 6.5” LF), are designed as complete line array systems with the newly announced external iKON multi-channel amplifiers optimised by Martin Audio’s automated DISPLAY software.

Since Nakano Zero is a theatre-style venue, after the explanation of each product attendees were invited onto the stage to test the systems via microphone as they walked around the stage. This provided a rare opportunity to hear all the new wedge speakers alongside each other and to test the different characteristics.

The WPC and WPM were also reviewed at balcony level (and under balcony) to confirm the optimisation results. MAJ offers a ground stack system for both line array speakers, purpose designed by the Martin Audio R&D department, as this is a popular configuration in Japan.

Following the event, many potential customers lined up to discuss their project requirements with both Jason Baird and the MAJ sales team, and to ask further questions. The event was therefore deemed a complete success and MAJ expressed their gratitude to the Martin Audio R&D Director for the strong support.

MAJ is planning further launch opportunities around Japan in the coming month, with a follow-up presentation at the Inter BEE 2017 exhibition, at the Makuhari Messe in November.

Ayrton Launches Ghibli At PLASA 2017

GLOBAL: Ayrton exhibited at the 40th PLASA London 2017 with its exclusive UK distributors, Ambersphere Solutions, where it successfully launched three new products: Ghibli, MiniPanel-FX and WildSun K25 TC.

Ghibli is Ayrton’s first LED spot luminaire and marks an expansion of Ayrton’s Automated Lighting range. Compact, elegant and lightweight, Ghibli boasts high output, ultra-efficient optics, a 8:1 zoom from 7° to 56° and a selectable high CRI mode amongst its wealth of features, all housed in a most compact, competitively-priced, package with a classy, sleek, industrial design.

Ghibli uses less than 900W of power in total, yet delivers an impressive output of 23,000 lumen, which renders it powerful enough for large scale arenas. In addition, its output is of an incredibly high quality, offering a crisp, clean and uniform beam with no hotspot, and fantastic centre-to-edge uniformity that delivers fat beams across its whole field, meaning Ghibli is at home as much in theatre as on the touring circuit.

Very appealing to the lighting designers who came to try out the new fixture was Ghibli’s fabulous zoom range: 13 high quality lenses including a 137mm frontal lens deliver

an 8:1 zoom ratio with a beam aperture of 7° - 56°. Ghibli is fitted with a special filter for optimising the colour rendering index. This ‘mode’ increases the CRI and can be activated remotely in situations demanding even higher-quality light output.

Other features include:• CMY colour mixing, variable CTO and full field framing• A complete effect section which includes two gobo

wheels (one rotating, one static), a fixed colour wheel, a prism, an animation wheel and two frost filters

• Full field framing system that is rotatable to 60º and allows each frame to be positioned with precision on a 100% surface area in all positions

• Innovative cooling system• Sleek design

“We are hearing from our customers that they recognise that Ghibli is much smaller, lighter and less expensive than any other product in its class,” he concludes, “with a great lumen per wattage ratio and much, much more usable zoom range. That makes us very happy that we succeeded in what we set out to do.”

Adamson Welcomes SONOS LIBRA As New Distributor For Thailand

THAILAND: Adamson Systems Engineering has strengthened its foothold in Southeast Asia with the addition of SONOS LIBRA as its new Thai distributor. Prior to launching SONOS LIBRA, managing partners Alfonso Martin and Vanessa Chompoo had helped to establish several premier pro audio brands in the Southeast Asian market in various professional roles. That experience offered them unique insights into ideal brand partners for their new firm. “When we founded our own company, we thought very carefully about which brands to represent and found a very special partner in Adamson. These products have a truly pristine sonic signature that I’ve never heard in another premium loudspeaker brand,” says Martin, who has a background in audio and acoustical engineering and a Master’s Degree in psychoacoustics. But while audio quality and premium performance were key criteria in SONOS LIBRA’s decision to adopt Adamson, Martin notes that they were far from the only considerations, emphasizing the importance of education, strong customer support, and personal relationships in the Southeast Asian marketplace.

“In addition to being technology-driven, we’ve found the team at Adamson to be very passionate, transparent, and trustworthy,” Martin continues. “They recognize the importance of support and education with all of their partners and users, and we know we can confidently service our market and customers with Adamson in our corner.” Martin and Chompoo founded SONOS LIBRA with a mission of delivering cutting-edge and professional acoustic, electro-acoustic, and visual solutions specifically tailored to premium applications. The company has wasted little time in creating an impact with Adamson in their territory, having already secured the contract to outfit one of Thailand’s premier private ballrooms with an Adamson system. “We’re very happy to have SONOS LIBRA join the Adamson Network as our new distributor for Thailand,” comments James Ritter, Adamson’s Sales Manager for the Asia-Pacific territory. “Vanessa and Alfonso are highly respected in the pro audio community in Southeast Asia and we look forward to supporting them and their customers as we continue to develop this important and growing market.”

Clear-Com Intercom & Salzbrenner Theatre Systems Offer Enhanced Stage Management ControlGLOBAL: Clear-Com has announced that its Eclipse HX digital intercom system can now integrate with Salzbrenner’s INSPIration stage management consoles to deliver a single, seamless and simplified control surface for theatres, performance halls and opera houses around the world.

Clear-Com’s industry-leading Eclipse HX digital intercom platform delivers tremendous flexibility, scalability and reliability over IP, Dante and AES67 Interfaces. Its V-Series intercom panels offer many physical and virtual keys allowing each panel to become a multi-functional control surface, while the Agent-IC app - available on iOS and Android platforms - enables mobile access to both intercom and Stage Management functions.

The Eclipse HX system supports HCI, an open control protocol that allows external systems to integrate with and control the Eclipse HX system. The protocol provides a rich set of control and monitor commands that are used to implement a wide variety of control applications, including crosspoint control, audio level control, panel key assignment, GPI monitoring and routing/monitoring of both conferences and IFBs.

Salzbrenner’s highly scalable INSPIration stage management system provides full integration of all required audio and paging functions in the audio matrix, including intuitive user interface with individual key assignment plus user stored and recallable presets per performance. The platform is future-proofed with the latest IP-based technology.

By integrating Eclipse HX key panels and beltpacks with the INSPIration console via the HCI protocol, operators can have remote access to stage management functions or information, such as cue light control, paging from intercom panels and video routing control. Operators can also tailor the intercom system for scheduled or ad hoc control, reconfigure the system from show to show depending on requirements, or even change it on the fly during the show.

Peter Stallard, Senior Product Manager, Clear-Com, said, “Stage managers now have convenient access to production intercom and

stage management functionalities directly from world-leading audio and communication products.”

Prolyte Group Supplies LiteDeck To Fruition Events LLCMIDDLE EAST: With the delivery of a large batch of over 500 pieces of LiteDeck staging platforms, Prolyte Group and Fruition Events LLC embark on a fruitful cooperation in the Middle East region. The staging elements were delivered in two batches, with the first completed in September and the second completed in October.

“Investigating the opportunity of local production with the Prolyte Group fulfilled our commitment to not only invest into a sustainable product line, but also to enhance availability in the UAE market. Prolyte Group manufactures leading products, which are widely recognised and used across the globe. LiteDeck offers a clean aesthetic look in comparison to existing steel products, whilst retaining simple functionality and creative design principles,” commented Warren Barlow, Managing Director of Fruition Events.

“Coupled with the extensive backup of the Prolyte network, we will have the added capability of developing special components locally, to meet the demands of the most creative deliveries. Fruition Events further commits to invest into Prolyte Group products to strengthen both brands in the MENA region. This set-up will further ensure availability of the products for use by other Prolyte users.”

Lars Toonen, Prolyte Group Sales Representative, added: ”This new cooperation offers an excellent networking opportunity for this region. By creating a large rental stock, backed by short lead times and direct availability, we now have a platform to service events as well as dry rental solutions and sales opportunities”.

LiteDeck is most popular for demanding touring productions or events, it has been tried and tested extensively. While the welded side profiles give the stage platform a modern and “rock ’n roll” style look, they also provide ultimate strength. Combined with the hard birch plywood top the deck offers ultimate durability; the top plate can easily be removed for maintenance or repair and

can be used on both sides. The LiteDeck system is available in a wide range of shapes and sizes, allowing hundreds of stage configurations to be created rom a relatively narrow stock of standard components.

Bringing their intention to invest in sustainable product lines only, Prolyte Group and Fruition Events worked on a special route-to-market. The LiteDeck frames are manufactured under licence by Talex, a UAE based company. Talex is a Middle East based extrusion plant, specialised in precision engineered aluminium products. Assembling the products locally helped to reduce the ecological footprint caused by shipping finalised products.

“Seeing a growing demand in the region, we have been anticipating to cope with this. By outsourcing the manufacturing process to finished product to a local company we not only reduce shipping volume and lead times, but we also keep the benefits of locally producing in the region”, states Ralph Stockley, Prolyte Group CCO.

To safeguard the renowned high-quality fitting of the LiteDecks, special welding jigs were developed at the Prolyte Group HQ in the Netherlands and shipped to Abu Dhabi. Johann Stuut, R&D engineer for Prolyte Group, and responsible for the development of the welding jigs, stated: “Every phase of the production process is thought over and captured by the design of the jig, you just have to follow the process. This will guarantee the original Prolyte shape and quality fitting in the production of the unique LiteDeck frames”.

Cameo Day Of Light Dazzles With Product Showcase

SINGAPORE: Cameo recently held a Day of Light event to showcase its range of products – the event drew over thirty participants from all over Asia, and was the first time the lighting company was being introduced by the Adam Hall Group.

The product range introduced during the showcase included the ZENIT Series static lights, such as the Z120, a zoom par with 7-55º zoom, the P40 outdoor par with an 8º beam angle, and two light-shaping diffusers for beam angles of 25º or 45º while maintaining transmission efficiency. The range also included the B60, a battery-powered W-DMX IP65 outdoor par with a 1900-lumen total output for uniform colour mixes, as well as a Battery Management System to prevent overcharging and exhaustive discharge.

One highlight was the new W600 outdoor high-power washlight – boasting 40x15W RGBW CREE LEDs with 21000-lumen total output for uniform and powerful colour mixing, the washlight is also equipped with a built-in 2.4 GHz W-DMX transceiver for easy wireless control. The washlight also offers optional SnapMag filter frames with light shaping diffusers that add the choices of circular 25º, 45º or 100º and elliptical 60ºx10º beam angles. The W600 will be available in Q4 of 2017.

Cameo also took the time to display its AURO and MOVO Series compact movinglights, and the audience had the chance to see the AURO SPOT 300 in action – with an RDM-enabled moving head, the moving light has 16-bit resolution, 630º pan and 235º tilt movement as well as high-speed three-phase motors. Powered by an 180W LED, the light sports eight colours, plus white and split colours.

Eaton Strengthens Ties With University Of South Wales’ Lighting Design Course

AUSTRALIA: Live entertainment lighting control specialist Eaton has enabled the University of South Wales (USW) to enjoy the power and flexibility of a Zero 88 FLX console which has been added to their line-up of lighting control options.

This increases their stock of Zero 88 products, which already includes distributed dimming (both Alphapack and Betapack) and manual control of their new 1:8 scale mini rig from a Jester 12/24.

Eaton is also supporting modules on USW’s BSc “Lighting Design and Technology” and “Live Event Technology” courses.

First year students visit the Welsh factory in Cwmbran as part of their “Introduction to Lighting” module; while second years sit the “Control Technology” module that has been developed by the Zero 88 team. For the first time, final year students can work with Eaton employees during their “Group Projects” module, where they must design and produce a piece of hardware or software, supported by a marketing strategy.

Stuart Green, Course Leader for BSc (Hons) Lighting Design and Technology, said: “We are pleased to be working with Eaton, a locally based company with global reach in the lighting and live event industry. The partnership enables our students to gain a variety of experiences, from work placements to having access to industry standard equipment and the latest expertise, all of this helps to prepare them for an industry career on graduation".

Eaton has also welcomed USW “year in industry” placement student, Edward Smith, to the Zero 88 team. Edward explained: “Placements make perfect sense; as well as providing skills and

training opportunities, it gives a good and realistic idea of the job options on graduation.”

During this ‘sandwich’ placement, Edward has fulfilled a product support role. “I run console demonstrations, training sessions, and answer queries from customers. I also beta test console software and report any issues that may be present, along with suggesting new features.”

Zero 88 Product Manager, Jon Hole, said: “We’ve had close connections with the University of South Wales, and affiliated RWCMD, for over a decade. In the Zero 88 office alone, 13 of us have backgrounds at USW covering a diversity of courses including Lighting Design, Stage Management, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Human Resource Management and Accounting & Finance. We’re determined to continue strengthening this highly productive relationship even further.”

Australian Lighting Technology Takes Gold At International Business Awards

AUSTRALIA: The International Business Awards has given three awards to Australian lighting and permanent attractions company, Laservision. At the 14th Annual International Business Awards in Barcelona on 21 October, Laservision won two gold awards for Creative Department of the Year and Technical Innovation of the Year.

The awards recognised Laservision’s work in the entertainment industry and continued advancement in Mega Media technologies. Laservision was also given a Silver award as Creative Team of the Year for the creation of its latest multi-media Spectacular installation in Dubai, IMAGINE.

Laservision was established 36 years ago and applies its engineering and creative skills to designing and developing World Class Mega Media Spectaculars around the globe. One of the company’s most recent installations, IMAGINE featuring at Dubai Festival City took over four years in research and development, and creative concept planning leading up to its installation.

On completion, IMAGINE set two Guinness World Records - one for World’s Largest Water Screen Projection, and the second for the World’s Largest Permanent Projection Mapping.

The project involves projection-mapping technologies, high-definition water-screens, multi-coloured fountains

and iconic laser designs culminating together to create a phenomenal permanent, immersive tourism attraction.

At IMAGINE, the technology provides a permanent video-mapping solution on Dubai’s InterContinental Hotel, with the installation involving a combination of engineering and creativity expertise along with a requirement to provide a reliable, repeatable and reprogrammable solution every night of the year. The World Record achieving installation involves 60 high-definition projectors illuminating the 4,857 square metres of the InterContinental Hotel.

The International Business Awards recognised what it described as Laservision’s industry-leading permanent projection-mapping technologies and their inhouse technical expertise utilised to achieve the record setting installation.

Laservision’s CEO and General Manager, Shannon Brooks, said the requirement to achieve perfect alignment and synchronisation at all times was a huge challenge since a permanent projection-mapping project on this scale had never been tackled before.

“Unlike many event-based projection-mapping solutions that might run over the course of a day or a few weeks, the engineering and technology used in our solution needed to provide consistent and reliable results throughout the year and for years to come every night of the week,” Mr Brooks said.

“You can’t do this without a great team of talented people and winning these awards is a demonstration of what Australian technology can give the world,” Mr Brooks said.

In winning Best Creative Department of the Year, the International Business Awards recognised Laservision’s innovations in story-telling, industry leading creative techniques and world-class productions. IMAGINE opened to the public in 2016 and has continued to draw visitors from around the world to Dubai.

Spectrum Invests In Adamson, Deploys E-Series At King Fahd Stadium

MIDDLE EAST: Addressing the rapidly growing demand for premium loudspeaker systems in the Middle East and Northern Africa, Dubai’s Spectrum Entertainment Services has joined the Adamson Network with the purchase of a substantial E-Series system. The new package has already been put to work at several large-scale events, including the 2017 Saudi National Day celebrations at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh. “We’re seeing the demand for high-performance audio systems continue to grow and invested in Adamson’s E-Series due to its high-fidelity sound, phase coherence, even coverage, and clarity,” explains Julien Beyrouthy, General Manager of Spectrum Entertainment Services. “We’re following our longtime clients to bigger venues while also supporting larger festivals and major international tours. Adamson’s rider acceptance has grown significantly and promoters in our market have made it clear they’re looking for seasoned companies offering Adamson systems.” Spectrum Entertainment Services is one of the leading providers of production technologies in the Middle East and North African region, providing turnkey audiovisual packages including audio, video, lighting, staging, and rigging services with experienced and professional operators for applications of all sizes.

Spectrum’s new Adamson system is comprised of 24 E15 and 12 E12 three-way, true line source array cabinets, 12 E219 subwoofers, and 24 compact E119 subwoofers, and they’ve wasted no time putting it to work. The company recently supplied Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh with an expansive sound system for its Saudi National Day celebrations. The event, held Sept. 23rd, 2017, featured a performance of the operetta The National Epic for a crowd of approximately 50,000. All of Spectrum Entertainment Service’s E-Series inventory was deployed, with the main stage arrays comprised of 12 E15s and six E12s per side. For low-end reproduction, the company relied on 12 E119 and six E219s per side. Additionally, 32 Adamson Y10s were used as delays to ensure even coverage throughout the stadium. The entire system was driven by E-Racks featuring 22 Lab.gruppen PLM+ 20K44 amplifiers with Lake processing. “We were thrilled to use the new Adamson E-Series arrays for Saudi National Day,” comments Theodoros Gkiantsis, the FOH engineer who mixed the operetta. “The E-Series is extremely linear and it takes very little work to get the system sounding great. We received rave reviews about the quality of the sound across the board.”

HARMAN Professional Solutions Helps Vietnam’s Central Circus Theatre Continue A Tradition Of ExcellenceVIETNAM: Ba Sao Investment, Co., Ltd. recently installed a complete audio system by HARMAN Professional Solutions at the Central Circus Theatre.

Located in the Hai Ba Trung district and founded in 1956, the Central Circus Theatre is the oldest circus in Vietnam. The theatre hosts five to seven performances per week by its own Vietnam Circus Federation, as well as occasional visits from international troupes. In order to enhance the facility’s sound quality and provide a more immersive performances experience for audiences, the Central Circus Theatre hired Ba Sao Investment to update the facility’s aging audio system with a cutting-edge integrated audio solution. Ba Sao Investment selected a complete HARMAN audio solution made up of JBL speakers, Crown amps, dbx signal processors and Soundcraft digital mixing consoles for their intuitive operation, unmatched flexibility and world-renowned sound quality.

“One key requirement of the audio system was that it needed to be powerful enough to cover our theatre's needs, and portable enough to suit our touring needs,” said Mr.Lê Quang Tuyến, Vice President, Central Circus Theatre. “Ba Sao Investment worked closely with HARMAN to provide us with a customized solution that includes a combination of passive and active JBL speakers. The HARMAN system offers us a lot of flexibility, and is a huge improvement over the previous system in terms of overall sound quality.”

The HARMAN system in the Central Circus Theatre consists of 12 JBL STX825 two-way speakers, 6 JBL STX828 dual 18-inch subwoofers, 18 JBL PRX715 two-way portable powered speakers, Crown MA5000 power amplifiers, Soundcraft Si Performer 2 digital mixing consoles and dbx DriveRack 260 speaker management systems.

The system is powered by Crown MA5000i amps, and augmented by portable JBL PRX715 two-way powered speakers.

“The Central Circus Theatre is thrilled with the HARMAN system we installed,” said Nguyen Khac Anh, CEO, Ba Sao Investment, Co. Ltd. “The JBL speakers provide excellent clarity and coverage, and the dbx DriveRack 260 ensures the system is optimized for every performance. The small-format Soundcraft Si Performer 2 can handle any live mix situation, and its built-in DMX lighting controller makes it easy for one technician to control audio and lighting from one console.”

“We are honoured that our solutions are incorporated in Vietnam’s oldest circus,” said Ramesh Jayaraman, VP & GM, HARMAN Professional Solutions, APAC. “The proud tradition of the Central Circus Theatre is in line with HARMAN’s tradition of providing premium technical solutions. NEXT-Proaudio Introduces The New PXH95

The new NEXT PXH95 is the Mid-High Speaker that belongs to the PX system, a system that can offer high SPL, reliability, an aesthetic design and high sound fidelity throughout the venue. This system reveals to be an ideal solution for portable applications as well as small concerts. Side fill or DJ monitoring are also one of the many applications that PX System covers.

When used by itself, the new PXH95 can be used in a variety of installation projects, including sports facilities, performance spaces, auditoriums, or worship facilities.

This new element was engineered to be a powerful medium/longthrow mid/high-frequency cabinet in a coaxial configuration. The frequency response range varies from 150 Hz to 19 kHz, with a precise coverage pattern of 90°H x 50°V over a frequency range from 400 Hz–17kHz, ensuring equal sound within the coverage area. As the PXH95 cabinet is square based, it can be rotated to achieve 50ºH x 90ºV coverage pattern.

To obtain the highest possible on-axis sound pressure levels over long distances, the PXH95 mid/high unit is entirely

horn-loaded creating an additional sensitivity and improved pattern control.

The HF range, from 1.15 kHz upwards, is reproduced by a Neodymium 1.4” driver with a 3” voice coil and a Constant Q horn, whilst the mid-range, from 150 Hz to 1.25 kHz, is provided by a low power compression 12” driver loaded by a midrange horn.

Wider horizontal coverage can be achieved using multiple PXH95, laterally stacked or flown. The PXH95 cabinet must be rotated by 90º to avoid the comb-filter effects.A Tilt Unit (available as an option) permits the cabinet to be angled in 5° increments up to a maximum of 15°; as a result, the upper cabinet can be aimed directly at the audience area even when the system is ground stacked. Optional flying hardware enables the cabinet to be flown. The cabinet is fitted with M8 threaded suspension points, supporting a wide variety of installation approaches.

Allen & Heath Extends ME Personal Mixing System With ME-500 Mixer

Allen & Heath has added the 16 channel ME-500 personal mixer to its ME personal mixing system. ME-500 is designed as an accessible personal monitoring solution for houses of worship, rental companies and orchestras, allowing musicians to quickly and independently build and control their own monitor mixes from 16 stereo or mono sources.

The new mixer inherits the same compact format as its sibling, the 40 channel ME-1, but with simplified setup and controls. The ME system is plug ‘n’ play compatible with Allen & Heath’s digital mixer range and can be used with third party digital consoles via the ME-U hub.

ME-500 features a crisp, dimmable display, 16 backlit select keys, mute and solo buttons, master level with limiter and EQ, plus a single rotary encoder for all main navigation and control. Each ME-500 can store and recall 8 user presets for different mixes, users and shows, all of which can be saved to USB. Outputs include minijack and ¼” headphones and a TRS mono out for wedge monitors.

There is no limit to the number of ME-500 and ME-1 personal mixers that can be added to a system. Secure EtherCon connectors allow ME-500s to be daisy-chained, or deployed in a star topology using the ME-U or an off-the-shelf PoE switch.

Allen & Heath’s Live Sound Product Manager, Ben Morgan commented, “We’re seeing a big rise in personal mixing as venues and tours battle to keep sounds levels on stage under control and try to make the most effective use of precious sound check time. Our established ME-1 personal mixers are superb for environments where there’s the time and expertise to craft the perfect mix of up to 40 sources for each performer, but many customers have been asking for a more accessible alternative that volunteers and first-time users can get great results with quickly and easily. That’s exactly what we set out to create with ME-500.”

DPA Microphones Amplifies Its CORE

DPA has announced the launch of CORE, a new amplifier technology that lives within its line of miniature lavalier and headset microphones.

Looking to minimize distortion as well as increase the dynamic range, or workable area, of its d:screet and d:fine lines of microphones, DPA developed this new amplifier to create an even clearer sound from the ‘highest of the highs’ to the ‘lowest of the lows.’ The dynamic range has been expanded in all ‘CORE’ miniature capsules. ‘CORE’ technology gives the microphones a more clear and open sound in the whole level range.

“DPA is renowned for its high-quality, clear and natural sounding microphone solutions,” says René Mørch, product

manager, DPA Microphones. “The new ‘CORE’ technology does not replace our existing mics, but rather offers another choice to our worldwide customer base. We want to give our users every option imaginable to capture the sound that they require during any type of production.”

Located in the capsule of its miniature mics, ‘CORE’ is currently available in the d:screet 4060, d:screet 4061, d:fine 4066 and d:fine 4088 mics. Microphones purchased with the new technology will come in ‘CORE’ packaging and will have a blue label near the serial number on the cable to differentiate between these and the original versions. The remaining d:screet and d:fine microphones and full range of color options will be available with ‘CORE’ technology in early 2018.

The new ‘CORE’ omnidirectional microphones will also provide water and moisture resistance through nano coating and hermetic sealing of the sensitive electronics.

INTERVIEW

Paulinho Lebrão:

One of Paulino’s greatest moment of pride was when he was involved in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Rio Olympics in Brazil that

was held in 2016. Paulinho was part of a team of lighting programmers and was specifically tasked to handle the programming of a specific scene at the Opening Ceremony – BOX CITY. With his trusty MA Lighting GrandMA2 he programmed this complex part of the lighting to great applause. “As a Brazilian I was emotionally involved in this project and this was one of my proudest moments,” said Paulinho.

ETA had the pleasure to sit with Paulinho for a quick chat, before the start of him conducting the MA Lighting training programme in Singapore that was held on the 23rd and 24th of October. Lighting programmers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Macau had the privilege of hearing how Paulinho used the

MA board to effectively programme the shows and how to get the best out of the console.

Paulinho’s interest in production and lighting started at a very early age, largely through the influence of his mother, who at the time was a producer for major concerts in Brazil, including David Bowie’s concerts. “I used to tag along with my mother and some times the lighting programmers allowed me to fiddle with the console. Back then it was all analogue.”

The Key Milestones...In 1997 he received a lighting kit with a sequencer as a Christmas gift and Paulinho promptly started to use it for parties in the neighbourhood. In 1998 a close relative who was involved as a theatre lighting technician started to bring him to help out in the theatre. “I just knew that this was what I wanted to do and when I told my mother she

INTERVIEW

put in touch with a rental company in Brazil and told them specifically not to do any favours and ensure that I learned from scratch. So I was involved in every aspect of lighting including putting up the lights, running cables and so forth. It was a great learning curve.”

In 2004, Paulinho started to do lighting programming for a Brazilian band. At the time, a friend told him about MA Lighting but the console was not yet available in Brazil. “So I went to the website to understand the system and downloaded their 3D software to play around and do designs using the software.”

In 2007, MA Lighting finally landed in Brazil and Paulinho was one of the first to attend the presentation. Because of his understanding of the software he quickly picked up on how to use the system. He made an immediate impression of the manager of MA Lighting for South America that he immediately signed Paulinho to provide MA Technical support. The 2008 economic crises unfortunately hit him and he found himself out of a job. Regardless in 2009 Paulinho started his own programme lighting company.

In 2010 he had a big break when one of Brazil’s most famous lighting designer Marcos Olivio, engaged Paulinho to programme the lighting for his shows. In 2011 he was approached to support a large festival in Chile and this was Paulinho’s first foray outside of Brazil. “This was a very large festival and the console provided for the system was a GrandMA2. Unfortunately the designer and the programmer were not familiar with the GrandMA2. They had taken two weeks to programme three songs and they asked me what can be done. I told them let me start from scratch and I will get all the 15 songs programmed. They were taken aback as there was only one week left before the festival and were not sure if I could pull it off. In two days, I handed over the programming for all the songs. This project and my ability to get it done helped me take off internationally where I went to Mexico and Spain for other festivals.”

At the end of 2015 Paulinho was approached to programme for the Paralympics in Brazil, which thrilled him. What he did not expect was a call a few days later requesting him to be part of the Rio Olympics lighting team. “I was over the moon but I was put in a spot.” So he told World acclaimed Lighting Designer Durham Marenghi, who had spoken to him that he may not be able to do the Olympics due to his involvement in the Paralympics. Durham told him if he was in the podium would he want to be a silver medallist or a gold medallist and gave him time to think about it. “Thankfully I was able to work out the schedules and got involved in both the events,” said a pleased Paulinho.

Challenges…“Every project has its own challenges but if I had to pick there were three challenges that come to mind. In 2014 the Villa Mix Festival in Brazil had one of the largest stage with around a thousand fixtures and we only had one night to do the programming. Time was a constraint but because I had used the 3D software, we managed to get it all done. Also in 2014 I had to programme the Kinetics used for a concert. It was a very interesting challenge as it was not a normal programming. The Rio Olympics was more of an emotional challenge. My heart was pounding and the waiting time for my scene really made me nervous and when it finally came to my turn, I was exhilarated, nervous and proud – all at the same time.”

About the MA Lighting Console and Creativity...“Generally I would think of the concept and then figure out how to do it with the console I have. But with MA the features are readily available. There are a lot of special functions and tools that you can use to your advantage. It is a console that has been put together to reciprocate the thinking of a lighting guy.”

Advice for upcoming lighting programmers...“Never think you know everything. It is always a learning process. Till now I am still learning. Whenever I do a programming or even a presentation, I am always learning. We never know everything. It is a continuous process.”

“The MA console has been put together to reciprocate the thinking of a lighting guy.”

Fat Pigeon Sounds “Prym”A Single Solution Does For Multiple Spaces

On the upmarket and aristocratic suburb of Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, there has come up recently a new entertainment destination that’s got everyone

in town talking. On any Saturday night, the venue gets packed to the gills, and on weekdays it’s almost just as crowded. The venue in question, Fat Pigeon, is an iconic bar that’s got something for everyone.

With four separate zones, there’s always something to keep you interested in some or other of the four.

Launched in mid-summer this year, Fat Pigeon plays host to music gigs, theatrical showcases and the odd sports screening. After dabbling around a bit about a few suitable design options, the promoters decided to entrust Arena Entertainment, locally-based partners of PrymAudio, with designing the audio-visual solution for the prideful place.

At the heart of the venue is the high-energy indoor area that plays host to a wide variety of music gigs. The design

specified for placing the console in this space, and roping in S15 speakers, S218 subs, along with S10 speakers as delays. Ceilings and side walls have been treated with both noise absorption and sound diffusion panels for better acoustic experience.

The outdoor area – keeping in view the nature of the space, and the kind of interactions visitors would have – was treated with S8 speakers. Similarly, the amphitheatre, that plays host to multiple film screenings, and the adjacent coffee shop have also been equipped with S8s.

For easy sound management, each of these areas are controlled by Blu 100 and Blu 10 processors that provide for independent settings for each area allowing visitors have a seamless transition experience between zones.

Almost four months in, and Fat Pigeon continues to draw in the packed crowds, with an exceptionally audio-visual and gastronomic experience awaiting them.

Wuhan’s Floating Theatre Sails Back In Time With SymetrixSymetrix helps floating theatre give guests truly immersive experience

Visitors to the historic city of Wuhan can now steam down the Yangtze river and backwards in time courtesy of one of the world's most ambitious

examples of immersive theater. Created by renowned theatrical director and artist Fan Yue, the Zhiyinhao is an enormous steamboat upon which passengers are spirited back to the 1920s, where the show unfolds around them. Perhaps even more remarkable than the premise is the sprawling audio installation that covers the entire ship. At the heart of it all are Symetrix Edge DSPs. By day a floating museum, and by night a truly unique experience, the Zhiyinhao recreates an era in which the famous city of Wuhan (sometimes called "the Chicago of China") was only just beginning to take its modern shape. Visitors are immersed in the performance as soon as they arrive at the wharf, with its 720-foot (220m) pier filled with clanking rickshaws. The ship itself is a faithful recreation of an early 19th century Chinese steamer named the Jianghua, accommodating as many as 1,008 people (including 108 performers) over three themed decks, restaurants and more. Keeping the show afloat is a ship-wide infrastructure of network cabling transporting 64

channels of Dante in both directions to 470 loudspeakers located across almost 100 individual rooms and numerous audio zones.

Two Symetrix Edge DSPs sit at the heart of the system, specified by the company behind all of the Zhiyinhao's technical audio systems: leading regional systems integrator EZPro International.

"Working on a project as creative and challenging as the Zhiyinhao has proven that EZPro International has the ability to provide a complete solution, no matter how complex the requirements," explains EZPro's Senior Vice President, Tao Zhang, who designed the audio installation together with System Application Manager Yan Chi and Product Manager Nan Hu. "The Symetrix Edge DSPs are the ideal choice for redundant network audio transmission in such a large-scale, multi-channel system." Each of the ship's zones features redundancy with primary and secondary switches plus the ability for the director to make quick manual changes to all technical systems if required. "The card-based analog inputs and outputs of the Symetrix Edge DSPs can be configured based on the clients' requirements," says Yan Chi. "They represent a flexible and affordable solution that's easy to expand. Moreover, its open architecture DSP offered us a powerful programming platform for the Zhiyinhao's unique requirements, as well as the ability to create custom control interfaces. In

addition, the Edge DSPs can monitor and manage system status, making it easy for system commissioning and maintenance."

"It was extremely exciting to participate in this project but we also faced lots of challenges including the complexity of the sound system," concludes Tao Zhang. "It was a very creative project. The director and his team often came up with new ideas and we had to quickly adjust the system configuration accordingly. The flexibility of the system's Symetrix foundation was exceptionally beneficial in this respect. Another challenge was ensuring the system's stability - performances on the Zhiyinhao take place daily and we needed to know there would be no problems with the audio system. Ultimately, with the efforts of our team and the support of the director's group, we have provided an excellent solution, and Symetrix is a big part of that."

JPJ Audio – On The Road With Ariana GrandeAUSTRALIA

Held in Xiamen, the summit was attended by leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Pop sensation Ariana Grande recently brought her Dangerous Woman tour to Australia, and JPJ Audio joined her on the road. The pop star may be tiny, but

with a little help from a Clair Cohesion PA and her FOH engineer Simon ‘Si’ Thomas, her voice was big enough to be heard in a stadium packed with thousands of screaming fans.

Toby Francis, Ariana’s usual FOH engineer, asked Si to replace him at the helm of the DiGiCo SD7 last May as he left to work on Katie Perry’s new tour.

The Clair Cohesion PA was utilised for her entire tour unless unavailable in a country (and then an L-Acoustics K1 or d&b J series will step in). In Sydney, Ariana played the ICC Sydney Theatre with sixteen CO-12 per side in the main hang, twelve CO-12 per side in the side hang and three CP-218 flown per side in cardioid. Another six CP-218 per side were ground stacked in cardioid. Infills were Clair CO-8.

“It’s very compact and light weight compared to other line arrays in its class and it’s got lots of headroom,” commented Si. “It has a really good high/mid which is very smooth. With this kind of music there’s a lot of odd sub content that goes down really low with which the CP-218’s do a really good job. The CP-218 sub is particularly good, it’s very powerful.”

The line arrays utilised for the Dangerous Woman tour.

LIVE 55E T A N o v e m b e r 2 0 1 7

Si described the ICC Sydney Theatre as an ‘interesting’ venue but at the end of the day, he was happy with the result.

“No one had flown subs in there like we did and I believe that made a lot of difference because if there’s too much down on the floor, it’s pointless,” he said. “Once you get some sub higher up, it works really well. I had heard horror stories about the venue but it was fine and quite decent sounding. Although getting in and out of it is a pain in the arse!” There was a fair amount of analogue involvement with FOH, and So used the SD7's subgroups to route out through Lake Processors, converting digital to analogue.

“I then have a Neve Portico 5059 Satellite 16x2+2 Summing Mixer and within that I’ve inserted various types of compression – Smart C2 for the drums, Crane Song STC-8 for the music, backing vocals a Tube-Tech SMC 2B multiband optical compressor and for Ariana’s vocal a Rupert Neve Shelford Channel,” explained Si.

“The various compressors are on the A Channel side of the Portico summing mixer, which are then all fed to the B side of the summing mixer to create a master mix which has a Portico II Master Buss compressor across it. Then that would then output and come back into the Master Buss return insert point of the SD7 with yet another Lake, converting to AES. Basically it’s a like one big insert chain.”

Added to that were a couple of TC M5000’s used for drum and vocal reverbs. Si readily admits that it took him a bit of time to get his head around what was going on but concludes that the system worked very well.

Ariana uses a Sennheiser MD 5235 dynamic microphone capsule with a Lake inserted across her channel so all of her vocal EQ’s are done in the Lake and not the console. In fact, much of the serious work wasn't done in the DiGiCo, which was used as a big router, and the DiGiCo channel expander was used on the vocal to keep the noise floor down so the audience wouldn't hear the room noise or PA when Ariana was in front of the thrust and not singing.

“I’m using a Telefunken M82 kick drum mic which is really, really nice,” added Si. “I also have Telefunken M81’s for the snare drums but the rest of the mics are fairly standard.”Vish Wadi also used a DiGiCo SD7 to run monitors with everyone using Sennheiser 2050 IEMs plus there are flown sidefills, some CM-22 stage monitors on the floor for the dancers and CP-118’s providing sub onstage for the band.

“The Australian tour was good fun and we really enjoyed it,” said Si. “To be honest, it was quite easy …. partly due to my system tech Jerrell Evans and the JPJ crew of Tim Seconi and Alex McComark, who were good lads.”

good high/mid which is very smooth. With this kind of music there’s a lot of odd sub content that goes down really low with which the CP-218’s do a really good job. The

CP-218 sub is particularly good, it’s very powerful.”

HARMAN Professional Solutions Powers Eclectic Roster of International Talent at “In The Mix” Music Festival

PHILIPPINES

Soundcheck deploys JBL VTX Series line arrays and Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers to power stellar performances by 5SOS, DNCE, Two Door Cinema Club and more

Soundcheck recently deployed a large-scale JBL Professional by HARMAN VTX Series system at In The Mix 2017, one of the largest music festivals in the

Philippines.

The second annual festival was held on August 17, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, and featured an eclectic line-up of international acts, including 5 Seconds of Summer, DNCE, Two Door Cinema Club, Zara Larsson and more. In order to provide the audience of 12,000 with a great-sounding concert experience, festival organizer Music Management International hired Soundcheck to deploy a full JBL VTX front-of-house system. The VTX

system’s transparent sound quality enabled Soundcheck to accommodate the diverse line-up of artists, and its innovative lightweight design allowed them to overcome weight restrictions at the venue.

“We are quite familiar with the Arena and its challenges, particularly slapback from the glass fronted VIP boxes on the second level,” said Jaime Godinez, owner and chief engineer, Soundcheck. “The venue is quite vertical too—there are five levels and all were open for this show. To ensure that we provided the best sound experience for the audience, we relied on the JBL Vertec Line Array Calculator software, LAC3 to determine trim heights, inter-

box angles and array size compensation, as well as the JBL Performance Manager 2.4 to configure the system setup.”

The system Soundcheck deployed included two main LR arrays of 15 VTX V25-II loudspeakers, two arrays of 10 VTX V20 loudspeakers for outfills, 18 VTX S28 subwoofers on the ground across the front of the stage, and six VRX932LA-1 loudspeakers for front fills. The entire system was powered by Crown VRack 4x3500HD and VRack 4x3500HD amplifiers. Audio processing is provided by a Soundcraft Realtime Rack processor. Soundcheck used JBL Line Array Calculator 3.0 and Performance Manager 2.4 software to configure, optimize and monitor the entire system.

“The Rational Acoustics Smaart software embedded in Performance Manager software helped us ensure that the speakers were optimized to provide full coverage,” said Godinez. “When we put the VTX system through its paces, we decided to leave the FOH flat, as none of the FOH engineers felt the need to make adjustments. At the end of the day the audience, the organizer and the artists—including DNCE’s FOH mix engineer Brian Pomp—were pleased with the outcome and that is what really matters. The VTX speakers performed optimally to provide an unforgettable experience to the audience of 12,000.”

TDC Masters Video Complexities Of ‘The Voice Australia’ Using d3 4x4pro

AUSTRALIA

Hit show’s latest season uses d3 4x4pro DVI VFC cards

Part of the hit international franchise, ‘The Voice Australia’ debuted in 2012 attracting millions of viewers to the show, which culminates in a six-week

live competition phase leading to the grand finale. Season 6, which wrapped up in July 2017, used a rack full of d3 4x4pro media servers with DVI VFC cards (16 outputs each) to master the show’s video complexities.

“When I have a choice of server there is only one I choose, and that is d3,” says Steve Cain, Head Engineer and Media Server Specialist at Technical Direction Company (TDC), Sydney, and Head of Video for ‘The Voice Australia.’ “The flexibility, reliability, features and power of the system are exactly what I need to deliver this show, week after week, day after day. We work within very tight time frames; each week the show is challenged to offer bigger and better show moments than the prior week And, similar to a lot of live productions, there are endless changes to the creative process and show orders. No other system I’ve used can stand up to this epic demand.”

For Season 6 the show had what Cain calls ‘a base rig’ consisting of “many LED screen elements and control room set ups linked back into Kinesys automation motor controllers, OB truck feeds, the animation studio and the lighting system. Each week, after all heads of departments met with the creative producers, we designed a number of ‘weekly show specials’ specifically for a song or act. This could be anything: additional LED screens, four to six projector mapped blends, moving head projectors, screen surfaces – most of which had to be rolled on, lined up and then struck in a three to four minute live commercial break with producers counting you down to ‘back on air,’” he recalls.

Given those demanding parameters Cain finds the 4x4pros act as “a one-stop shop with everything I need built into one operating platform. When I'm in the studio, I’m running the server a number of ways simultaneously: from a network of grandMA2 lighting consoles, reacting to live incoming automation data, on and off chasing of timecode, bouncing cues from my phone for producer walkthroughs and down timeline programming. This, combined with low latency capture cards, plus a Notch playback license, is all in one box on a fantastic visual GUI.”

Cain believes that d3’s previous capabilities are “one of the best advantages d3 can offer over other systems. I use the visualization of the GUI extensively to design the ever-changing system from week to week. I can prove or disprove concepts ahead of studio time and plot all the camera positions so the show producers can see what each element will look like from actual camera positions. We do all of this in our purpose-built d3 Studio at our TDC head office,” he explains. “It saves us a lot of time, hassle and money each week.”

During Season 6 he used a number of features of d3’s key features. “SockPuppet worked with my grandMAs, QuickCal and Deformation Layers allowed me to line up six projectors in three minutes, and Multi-Transport ran multiple timelines simultaneously,” he says. “The unique way d3 does output mappings” also proved helpful and “the 10-gig network and Media Versioning uploaded and managed an abundance of content each day.”

Cain reports that, “even though I was running an output machine and understudy system with automatic failover switching of our complex matrix system, I have never had to use it to date. d3 runs 100 percent every day, week after week.” Nevertheless, “support from d3 has always been second to none. They have always allowed me to get the full potential out of the system” he notes.

It’s not only professionals like Cain who are excited about deploying d3’s pro range servers. “Our clients love it,” he says. “They can throw pretty much anything at me at any time, and it can be done! They also love the visualisation of the GUI and the fact that I can ‘hold’ the outputs live-to-air to tweak a last-minute change without ever needing to go to black.”

In addition to ‘The Voice Australia’, TDC has used d3 media servers on some eight television shows annually, including the X-Factor, This Time Next Year, Accidental Heroes and Little Big Shots.

Star Dimensions Lights Road To Ultra With Elation Lighting

INDIA

India’s first-ever Ultra show uses Elation Professional lighting

Held in Miami each March during Miami Music Week, Ultra is one of the biggest dance music festivals on the planet and consistently features Elation

Professional lighting on its stages. The iconic music festival hits the road as well, under the moniker Road to Ultra, and in September played two highly anticipated shows in India, one of which included Elation Professional lighting gear supplied by Elation partner Star Dimensions India Pvt Ltd.

Road to Ultra Mumbai, which took place at the Mahalakshmi Racecourse in Mumbai on Sept 7th, was an historic event as it marked Ultra’s first show ever in India. While the main festival in Miami sees multiple stages and hundreds of artists, the Road to Ultra events are organized on a smaller scale with fewer artists and follow an arena format with one stage. Still, the entertainment technology that backs the production makes for a powerful experience not to mention the music lineup, which was quite impressive. Duo sensation The Chainsmokers headlined, along with a cast of supporting artists, many of which brought an Indian flavour into their sets.

Star Dimensions handled lighting and trussing for the event and turned to 12 Elation Platinum SBX hybrid moving heads and Platinum Beam 5R beam effect moving lights for what Ashish Mehta, Director of Star Dimensions, described as an

“out of the box” design. “We had the SBX fixtures on both a front bar and back bar truss, creating mesmerizing effects on stage and towards the audience while the Platinum Beam 5Rs were used for nice mid-air gobo effects,” Ashish Mehta explains. “We rigged many 5R Beams across the stage and sound tower extension and their sharp narrow beam created a larger than life look.”

Star Dimensions has regularly had their inventory of Elation lighting out on many of the top music events in India, including Justin Bieber's 2017 shows,

David Guetta's 2017 Mumbai show, Sensation India, A State of Trance and many others. “We have used Elation products for years and find them to be very reliable,” Mehta stated. “They stand up well to the tough conditions we often experience here in India and they have a performance to value ratio that is hard to beat. Road to Ultra was a great opportunity for us as well as the EDM scene in India and Indian EDM lovers were naturally eager to immerse themselves in the experience.” Ashish Mehta and Star Dimensions also provided technical support for the show, along with Syam Gopinath, who executed the trussing and lighting plot. The Road to Ultra event, brought to Mumbai by Percept Live, might not have included the entire Ultra package you’re used to seeing at Ultra Miami, but there wasn’t a dull moment throughout the show. Mehta sends a special thanks to everyone from Percept Live, especially Percept Live’s technical head Yogesh Malhotra, who stated, “We’ve handled a lot of EDM events and DJ concerts in which Elation has been a part of the rider - fixtures like the Platinum Beam 5R series, Platinum SBX and Elation LED Par lights - and we have found them to be outstanding products.”
