Parent Reading Program – Volunteers Needed!

Parent volunteers are needed for our ‘Parent Reading Program’.

This program supports our struggling readers in the early primary

grades. The time commitment involved is a couple of hours at least

one day per week. Your time will greatly benefit our students. It is

rewarding to witness these students gain confidence in their

abilities and begin to see themselves as capable readers.

If you are interested in volunteering for this program, please

contact Debbie Milner at 905-898-2077.

An Information session will be scheduled at a later date to discuss strategies and resources

available to support the students you will be reading with.

Thank you for your time and commitment to our students.

Stonehaven Sports

Volleyball season is well underway, and there has been some amazing

matches and tournaments played. The Intermediate Girl’s won their first

championship of the season on October 26th in an exciting finish against

Mazo de la Roche. The Junior teams are also up and running, and the older athletes are helping

with the training.

In Cross country, Stonehaven had a great day at the regional meet, with several atheletes

running against some incredible competition. It was a great day and congratulations to: James

Young, Natalie McColl, Jesse Marcks, Jasleen Virdi, Paige Ogilvie, Grace Allaire, and

Sebastian Hamilton.

Special thanks to Mr. Correa, Ms. Macrae and Tiffany Yau for their support on this day.

Thanks for all that you do!

Stand up and Drum

'Stand Up and Drum' meets every Day 5 at Lunch Recess. This group is an arts-integrated

Equity and Inclusivity Club. We discuss Equity and Inclusivity issues that affect our school

community from a student perspective. Our goal is to educate ourselves and support our goal of

inclusivity at Stonehaven ES through arts-based, information-sharing performances or visual

means. Our membership is made up of grade 7 and 8 students. We are always open to new

members joining our meetings.

We are looking forward to this year’s Remembrance Day

Assembly and would like to invite you to the event at our school

which will take place on November 10th.

The assembly will begin promptly after morning recess at ap-

proximately 10:45 and will be approximately one hour in length in

our school gym.

Please join us.

From our Music Department

We are excited to announce our school's song

Unclean Water, from last years Reconciliation

Anthology was selected to perform at this year's

Quest conference. This is an international

conference held here in York Region, and a pretty big

deal. All students involved will be leaving bright and

early on Nov. 15th, to head to the conference to perform. This is a continuation of the great

work these students did last year raising awareness, and funds for the non-profit organiza-

tion called, Water First. Water First is an organization that works on the water crisis fac-

ing Indigenous people on Turtle Island. We are still graciously accepting donations in the

school office as a way to support for this organization, and also the fantastic work the stu-

dents have done using their song to spread this message.

We have several opportunities to make music outside of class time at Stonehaven, including

drumming, singing and concert band. We have been hard at work, creating and practising and

should have some things ready to share at our upcoming winter concert. Please stay tuned

for dates and we look forward to sharing all our hard work.

Dear Stonehaven Families….

As we approach the winter holidays, it is great news that the

“Gift of Giving” food and toy drive will be starting again. The

school will be accepting dry and canned foods, toiletries, as

well as new unwrapped toys. Along with this, we will also be

accepting monetary donations for the food bank to purchase

turkeys.

We will also have our “Hat and Mitten Tree” set up in the front

hall. The “Gift of Giving” will run from November 13st through to

December 15th. All donations will be greatly appreciated.

All donations will be distributed to The Newmarket Food Pantry, The Children’s

Aid Society, Inn From The Cold and the local Fire Department.

During these weeks, Stonehaven students and staff will be encouraged to partici-

pate in this thoughtful, and much needed event. This wonderful event gives us all

the opportunity to reflect on what we have, and to give back to our community.

The “Gift of Giving” drive will put many smiles on many faces!

We hope that everyone has the chance to participate in order to make this event

a SUCCESS! Our main goal is to help as many families this year have a happy holi-

day.

WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
