The daytime skies gave much of theU.S. a treat in August with the solareclipse, but the night skies have their ownshow this month. The Leonid meteorshower happens every year in November, when Earth passes through the debris trailof the comet Tempel-Tuttle. The meteorswill be visible to the naked eye, so youdon’t need any special equipment to seethem. The Leonids pick up steam aftermidnight and display the greatest meteornumbers just before dawn. This year, theLeonids are expected to fall mostabundantly on Nov. 17 and 18.
A Joyful FlowerThe flower for November is the
chrysanthemum. The word comes from theGreek chrysos, which means “golden,” theoriginal color of the blooms, and anthemon, which means “flower.” The chrysanthemumsymbolizes optimism and joy.
