FLU SEASON UPDATE ALL STAFF, VOLUNTEERS and FAMILIES/GUESTS ARE ENCOURAGED NOT TO REPORT FOR
WORK OR VISIT EVERGREEN HAMLETS IF YOU HAVE A COUGH OR A FEVER. LETS KEEP
EVERYONE SAFE AND HEALTHY DURING THE FLU SEASON!
Flu Prevention:
Many people use the term Flu to refer to any illness caused by a virus, such as stomach flu or
the common cold. However, the influenza virus causes illness that tends to be more severe
than other viruses. The influenza virus can cause serious illness and even death in people with
certain chronic health conditions. Influenza and its complication of pneumonia remains the
leading annual preventable cause of death, particularly for those living in health care facilities
or with underlying health conditions.
About the Influenza/ Flu Vaccination:
• Is the best protection against influenza illness and effective way to help people stay healthy,
prevent illness, and even save lives.
• Doesn't protect against other viruses or bacteria that may cause colds or stomach illnesses
(the stomach flu).
• You cannot get influenza from a flu shot.
• The best way to protect against influenza is to get immunized every year.
• The virus changes (mutates) every year so that a new vaccine must be administered an-
nually.
• Even if you’re healthy...this season, get immunized against influenza and protect those
around you where you live, work and play.
• The seasonal influenza vaccine is safe and effective.
• Hand Washing is the most important method of reducing the spread of infection.
Cough Etiquette: Please cough into your sleeves. Coughing into your
hands or even using tissues can spread germs!

FUN CORNER
Facts About Remembrance Day: • Remembrance Day was initially
called “Armistice Day” and it originated to commemorate the end of World War I on November 11, 1918.
• The poppy tradition began when the noticeable red flower was seen growing over the graves of soldiers.
• Previously, Remembrance Day coincided with Thanksgiving Day. Many veterans and citizens, however, pushed for the days to be celebrated separately, and in 1931, Thanksgiving was moved to a different date.
• Members of the Canadian military have seen combat in both World Wars, the Korean War, the South African War, the Arab-Israeli Con-flict in 1974, and in Afghanistan.
