“Called to Follow Jesus and Serve All”
NOVEMBER 2015
FINAL EXAMS ARE COMING! We have several college students right now preparing for their upcoming
final exams. This is the start of the third year that we have put together small care
packages for our college kids to let them know they’re being thought of and prayed
for. A little something from home to give them encouragement. There is a dona-
tion list on the bulletin board for specific items that are needed. We will be con-
structing a “tasty” poster for them. All donations need to be in by Sunday, Novem-
ber 22 . The collection box will be located in the church lobby.

Greetings in the Name of Jesus: Have you ever failed to express your gratitude for a kindness shown to you? Sometimes we take kindness for granted or become involved in our daily
activities and just forget to say “thank you.” Those two words are so simple, and yet they express so much. Ten lepers approached Jesus on his way to Jerusalem. They cried out to him and begged for mercy. They wanted to be made clean. Jesus did not hesitate in responding to them. He told them to go and show themselves to the priests, and while they were on their way, they were made clean. We might think that the story of this cleansing ends here. The lepers cried for mercy, and Je-sus healed them. But Jesus did not simply cleanse them; he gave them specific instructions. They were to go to the priests. Jesus knew that once they were on their way and had walked some dis-tance from where he was, it would take some effort for them to return and give thanks. Was it just a test to see how many of the ten would return? But Jesus already knew. We know that only one returned, and Jesus asked those around him where the other nine were. I wonder whether we are included in the other nine. Do we remember to give thanks daily for our many blessings, or are we too busy attending to our busy schedules that we forget? Just how busy are we really? What is it that takes up so much of our time? Like the lepers, we may be on our way somewhere that we feel the Lord has told us to go. We may be doing acts of kindness or working hard on a job God gave us. Even if we are doing something that God has told us to do, we still must take the time to return to him and offer praise and thanksgiving. Wouldn’t this be a wonderful time of year to add “giving thanks” to our daily agendas? I think it would. See you on Sunday! God Bless You; Pastor Ron
“Then Jesus asked, ‘Were not ten made clean?
But the other nine, where are they?’” Luke 17:17
Thank you!
We are very grateful for all of the expressions of appreciation for
Pastor Appreciation Month.

*With the end of the year approaching, it’s time to start think-
ing about year-end giving statements. Our computer system
has the capability to email statements. If you choose to have
yours emailed, please contact the church office. Email is obvi-
ously more cost effective, however statements will only be sent this way if the office is directed
by you to do so.
*We have been working on updating the church directory with information that was gathered
in the springtime. The new directories will be out shortly and will be announced in the bulletin
for pick up.
*Year-end is a good time to update the Direct Deposits that are being made. If you currently
make your offering via Direct Deposit, contact the church office with any updated information
or change. If you are interested in having your church offering automatically deducted from a
savings or checking account, contact the church office to make arrangements. Your deduction
can be set up as weekly or monthly.

TCC NEWS We will be decorating our “Tree of Kindness” on November 13. We invite you to stop by
and take a tag to help make someone’s Christmas a little brighter. TCC coordinates with Hope En-
terprises to collect gifts for Danville individuals who are considered to be intellectually disabled.
For a lot of these individuals, our gift may be the only gift they receive at Christmas. Gifts are
due back to TCC by December 6, wrapped or unwrapped, but please attach the tag that was on the
tree so we know who the gift is for. (The person’s real name is not used for confidentiality.)
If you ordered sticky buns from our fundraiser, the pick up date is November 11, 4:00-5:30
at the Childcare entrance.
The children will be making cards for Veteran’s Day. If you know a veteran that we can
make a card for, please contact the Childcare Office with the veteran’s information.
Don’t forget our LAMbs this Holiday Season
Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching! A listing of the LAMbs of Trinity will be at the information desk in the
lobby if you would like to send a card or stop in for a visit.
CUB SCOUTS WILL PLANT TREES AT TRINITY
Trinity’s Cub Scout Troop #30 will earn merit badges for planting tree
seedlings at TUMC. On Sunday, November 1, the Scouts will gather to plant
young oak trees donated by members of the congregation. The Cub Scouts will
plant the seedlings on the lawn, close to Trinity Woods. The trees will have
heavy wire cages secured to the ground around each, to prevent the deer from
enjoying a free snack.
Assuming the young trees survive for 2-3 years, they will be transplant-
ed to a permanent home on church property or to a good home nearby.
FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL SERVICE
Sunday, October 11, Trinity UMC hosted the Danville Area Fire
Department’s Memorial Service during the 10:30 Worship Service. A
bag pipe processional led the Fireman’s Honor Guard and volunteer
firefighters into the sanctuary. The firefighters partici-
pated in the worship service, serving as ushers & greet-
ers, doing the children’s moment and reading scrip-
ture. As the name of each firefighter that passed to
life eternal in the past year was read, a bell rang in
their honor. At the end of the role call a bugler, stand-
ing in the balcony of the sanctuary, played “Taps.”
After a closing prayer the bag pipes led the firemen
Ron & Barb Costella brought their cats, Bostion
and Sunshine, in dressed up for Halloween.
MISSION TRIP
Beth Culver will be traveling to Haiti as part of a midwife mission
team in December. Medications and medical supplies are desperately
needed in Haiti. If you would like to make a donation to the mission,
checks can be made payable to Trinity UMC, but you must mark it for
“Culver Mission” so it is applied properly. Donations will be accepted
until Sunday, November 22. If you have any questions, please contact
Beth or the church office to leave a message for her.
PAY IT FORWARD Isn’t it a pleasant surprise when someone does something nice for you without
being asked. It’s even a greater surprise when it’s a complete stranger.
In 2013 there was a story going around about a Starbucks Drive-Thru in Connecti-
cut where a customer paid for the car behind him and that person paid for the person
behind him, and so on until there were over 1,000 people that “paid it forward” over a
period of 3 days.
Pastor Rayvon shared one of his pleasant surprises with us recently. With it being the
time of year for giving and receiving and really thinking about what we are thankful for, it
seemed appropriate to share his story.
First Pastor Rayvon handed me a list of restaurants; Longhorn Steakhouse, Ruby Tues-
day’s, Edith’s Kitchen, Creekside, and Front Street Station. A note from Front Street Station was
attached to the list. It read, “your bill has been taken care of by one of our staff members. Nev-
er stop smiling!” People have anonymously paid for his meal at each one of these restaurants
over the past 2 years or so.
When you have the opportunity, do a random act of kindness for a stranger. “PAY IT
FORWARD.”
