On Display: Vartus Varadian, Chinese Brush Paintings November/December

Vartus Varadian, a graphic designer and art director by educa-tion turned to Chinese Brush Painting as a means of meditation, and inspiration after her sudden diagnosis and subsequent treatments for cancer in 2009.

She is on the mend and continues her creativity with Chinese Brush Painting and her works (paintings and cards) are sold through numerous galleries and gift stores.

NEW! Live Lectures from NYC’s 92nd Street YLive satellite broadcast programs presented by the Worcester JCC, Congregation Beth Israel, Temple Emanuel Sinai and the Jewish Federation of Central Mass. All programs held in the library at Congregation Beth Israel, 15 Jamesbury Drive, Worc.

$5 per person per broadcast

Monday, November 4, 8pm Renowned attorney and author Alan Der-showitz, interviewed on his newly published memoir by writer and CNN analyst Jeffrey Toobin. Dershowitz has been described as one of the most distinguished defenders of individual rights in the world.

Tuesday, November 19, 8:15pm Haaretz senior correspondent Ari Shavit and New Yorker editor David Remnick, discussing “The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel,” based on Shavit’s new book My Promised Land: The Triumph and Trag-edy of Israel. The two writers will analyze Israel’s fraught history and its prospects for the future.

Sherman changed American comedy and popular culture, bringing ethnicity into the mainstream. Mark Cohen, the leading expert on Sherman, was given exclusive access to Sherman’s papers, recordings and interviews to write this first biography of the groundbreaking song parodist. Cohen will include musical clips of Sherman’s lost Jewish parodies.
