IT MUST BE NEARLY CHRISTMAS!
We are looking very festive already. It may seem early but in our
school we have so much going on we have to get ahead and we
certainly have done that this year. The decorations went up last
week throughout the school with a very special display in the
entrance hall. Each class has contributed with decorations they
have made in school and - what creative children we have!
PUDSEY CAME TO EMMER GREEN!
On Monday 16th November Pudsey Bear joined us as we talked
about Children in Need in a special assembly. We were all very
excited to meet our furry visitor and it was a great start to our
Children in Need activities. Sandy and Sally spent the week baking
cupcakes for the sale on Friday 16th, children and staff were all
invited to enter a cupcake competition with prizes for the winner
of each Year Group. All the entries were then sold and the
proceeds - a whopping 407 went to Children in Need. We were
also live on air on BBC Radio Berkshire as their Breakfast Show
reporter Nicki Whiteman spent the morning interviewing children
and visiting classes.

Mrs Waite has had her baby! He couldnt wait (hoho) and came
3 weeks early. With a birth weight of 6lbs he is doing very
well and has been to visit us a number of times already!
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Waite and baby Thomas.

Christmas Fayre
The Christmas Fayre which took
place on Saturday 24th November
was another triumph for the
PTFA. Undeterred by a last
minute spanner in the works
(Ofsted), the organisers and
anyone who was available pulled
together and worked tirelessly to
get the show on the road. What a
great team! The event went off
without a hitch, it was incredibly
well attended and a fantastic
6,800 was made, all of which
will go to our school for the
benefit of our children. Thank
you particularly to Carys Strong,
all the stall organisers and
helpers and all who attended.
Thank you to all whocame to or helped atthe Gift Evening onThursday 15th

Have a great holiday!
As always we have lots to report. I dont know how we
managed before with only a 2 sided Newsletter! Novemberhas been full of events, activities and a surprise visit
I would like to start by thanking you all for your support
last week when as you know we were inspected by Ofsted.
We are so proud of our school, our staff, our children and
the relationship between the staff and parents. We
naturally wanted our visitors to see this and with your
support and the continual dedication of all our staff, Ireally think we gave a true picture.
The inspectors left no stone unturned and are now
compiling their report. I will of course let you know their
results as soon as I receive them.
Other more scheduled visitors included the Life Education
Bus which comes once a year and is parked on the
playground. All children visit the bus and take part in
sessions relating to life issues ranging from keeping
healthy, feelings and friends. We also welcomed the Road
Safety Roadshow which again involved all classes being
taught valuable rules of the road in a hands-on and very
entertaining manner.
The Juniors have been on university courses, Foundation
have made memory bottles and Infants, choir andorchestra have started rehearsals..
All this and much more to come, please see the dates and
watch out for texts galore!

SPORTS NEWSOn Monday 19th November the Year 6
Boys Football team travelled to
Micklands School for a 7 a-side
match. A spectacular performance
led to a 6-0 win for Emmer Green.
Well Done to all the team, a great
start to the season!
Tuesday 20th November saw the Year
5 Hockey team travel to HighdownSchool for a local schools Hockey
Tournament. In the pouring rain our
team won five matches and drew one.
Well Done to the team, a brilliant
performance with some stunning goals.
Thank you to Miss Maddock for
organising our team, to Miss Watt for
helping with training and to Mrs
Slaughter for going with Miss
Maddock and the team on the day.
We are verypleased with ournew wide pathoutside the front ofthe school. Wehope that the extraspace has madeschool drop off andpick up lesscongested.

Another plea from local residents that we do not park on the grass
verges when picking up and dropping off children. Most importantly
it is dangerous to pedestrians and in addition the grass gets churned
to mud.
University CoursesDuring the first week back after half term, the Juniors attended our University
courses and graduated in their chosen subjects. A few weeks beforehand, children
took a prospectus home and sent in applications listing their preferred choices of
course. Subjects included Film Studies, Chemistry, Fashion Design, Art, Garden
Design, Animation and many many more. We had a special showing assembly where
feedback was given and where possible children could show their work. We hope
that this experience has been fun and memorable and has given the children an

Years 5 and 6 rounded off their most recent topic with a dress-up
day. Children and staff came in dressed up and performed songs
from the decades to parents who all came in for a special assembly
in the afternoon.
