Carnegie Melon University ran a very successful Trick or Treat campaign for UNICEF this October. CMU UNICEF members visited three different local elementary schools & a local YMCA, where a presentation was held to educate students about TOT. CMU UNICEF also brought the UNICEF TOT Campaign onto the CMU campus by tabling in the University Center. CMU UNICEF reps went to dorms & campus buildings to plan their very own modern version of Trick or Treat called “Reverse Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF”, by giving candy to donors. CMU UNICEF raised awareness about UNICEF on the Carnegie Mellon campus as well as in the local community.

UNICEF at Virginia Commonwealth University held a Spotlight Banquet on Child Malnutrition on October 5th. The event featured presentations centered on child malnutrition in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, performances from cultural organizations, and keynote speaker Global Citizenship Fellow Aarti Singh, who spoke about the issue of child malnutrition and what can be done on behalf of UNICEF volunteers about the issue. The event was a major success for fundraising, and in spreading awareness and inspiration to take action.

The UNICEF Club at Santa Monica College decided to put a new spin on their Trick or Treat for UNICEF fundraising by holding an

event called Pennies for Cotton Candy. During the event they asked for pocket change in exchange for cotton candy. The event was successful not only in fundraising, but also in advocating for UNICEF. Every weekend, UNICEF at UCLA goes to a transitional home in the LA neighborhood of Boyle Heights. There, they work with children by teaching different workshops on topics such as nutrition, fitness or college preparation. Recently, the club hosted a workshop on safety procedures during natural disasters, such as fires or earthquakes. The club reports that these events are just  as much fun for them as they are for the kids, and that they love going back every  week.

END TRAFFICKING CAMPAIGN EVENTS

Campus Initiative Clubs all around the country have been hosting discussions and film screenings of “Not My Life” as part of the UNICEF End Trafficking Campaign. At UT-Arlington, Mavs for UNICEF and Intervarsity hosted a

“Holding up Traffic” End Trafficking Campaign, which employed interactive methods and victim stories to raise awareness about the issue on campus. Other campuses that have held screenings of Not My Life include: Allegheny College, New York University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and UNICEF at Diablo Valley College.
