Dear Friends in Christ,
Blessings of Peace and Joy to you and your loved ones!
For a couple of short minutes last Thursday, we were up on the stage receiving the Naonal Blue Ribbon Award. We were photographed, YouTubed, and videotaped. A disco song was playing on the background, while I did a group selfie. There were six of us, represenng St. Jerome School and the Diocese of Trenton—Sister Angelina, our Principal, Sisters Elizabeth To and Dalessio, Mrs. Joanne Tier, the Superintendent and Mrs. Margaret Boland, Associate Superintendent.
It is like echoing Neil Armstrong’s words during the moon landing—”that's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” It was two short minutes on the stage, it was a giant leap for a small grammar school community like ours.
I may be biased, but St. Jerome’s School is living up to its tagline—SJS the best. Of the four other schools that were awarded from our diocese, our school is the smallest in size and in budget. But, we are big in academic excellence, faith formaon, and character building. What sets us apart from
the rest has been the academic training of our students through the charism of St. Lucy Filippini, cing most notably the deep commitment and fervent dedicaon of Sister Angelina Pelliccia.
Sister Angelina is synonymous with St. Jerome School. We are what we are now, as a school family community, largely and mainly because of her.
As we were about to step up to the stage to have the picture taken with Aba Kumi, the Director for the Naonal Blue Ribbon Schools Program, I said to Sister Angelina that her name should also be in the plaque. In her usual humble way she said, “No, it’s the school. Not me.”
Congratulaons once again, Sister! Congratulaons, faculty and students of St. Jerome School!
Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day on Thursday, the 22nd. May we always be grateful for the gis that God has entrusted to us—our lives, our loves, our faith.
With my love and prayers,
Fr. PJ

The Boardwalk
Many, many years ago, hotel owners had a major problem along the Jersey Shore. The problem was the beach sand along the shore. Hotel owners couldn’t keep the beach sand out of the hotels along the Jersey Shore. The problem was fixed with the construcon of a simple boardwalk along the Jersey Shore. It separated the beach sand from the hotels and gave people a clean path to walk along the Jersey Shore. Now, the hotel owners and beach goers were happy along the Jersey Shore.
Did you know? The very first boardwalk was constructed in Atlanc City, New Jersey.

Knights News
The Knights of Columbus picked up and delivered over 1100 pounds of food for the Annual Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving Food Drive. The donaons were delivered to the Mercy Center in Asbury Park on November 11 by brother Knights. In the photo are 3 of the brothers, Bill, John and Ken who helped load the vehicles. Once again due to the generosity of the St Jerome parishioners and the diligent work of the Knights, another successful project was completed.
If you feel you would like to join this great organizaon, The Knights of Columbus please reach out to a Knight through you parish office.
We look forward to hearing from you.

"Faith and Reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplaon of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know

come to the fullness of truth about themselves."

In the Service of Peace That the language of love and dialogue may always prevail over the language of conlict.
Here’s One Posive Encouragement
What is your prospective on life, Religion and Jesus? WOW! What
a deep question!!! Have you though about any of these four in-
depth lately? Are these thoughts too difficult and taxing to
spend time on? Are you up to the challenge? If so, think about
discussing them, one at a time with friends. You probably have
never spoken about these subjects in depth. You will be
surprised at what everyone’s opinion is. Enjoy this little exercise. I
believe that once you get started, you will all agree that it all

GODPARENTS/SPONSORS
Have you been asked to be a GODPARENT? Have you been asked to SPONSOR someone ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, or for an adult in the RCIA program?
It is an honor and a privilege to be asked. You are seen as someone that a family, child, teenager, or adult looks up to as living a strong, Christian Catholic faith. You model that behavior in the way that you live your life.
To receive a sponsorship form signed and sealed by the Pastor, please keep the following in mind:
I am age 16 or older. I am registered in the parish. If married, the marriage is recognized by the Catholic Church. I attend Mass on a regular basis. I contribute to the support of the Church, as best I can. (Attendance is taken by the envelopes in the collection
basket). I receive Sacraments according to the Laws of the Church, and I fulfill the requirements listed above.
The Church takes very seriously the role of being a sponsor. Choosing a sponsor would be based on the person’s dedication to the faith and regular practice thereof.

Send a Hero Home for the Holidays Send a Hero Home for the Holidays is a program that pays the transportaon costs of acve duty military personnel to return home for Christmas. Our primary focus is the joint base of McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst given their large populaon of service personnel
but Earle Naval Base and the Sandy Hook Coast Guard Staon have been included. We work with the Base Chaplains in idenfying recipients. The only restricon for applicants is their rank can be no higher than an E3 – junior enlisted personnel.
Last year we sent 99 service personnel home; as of 10/31 we have purchased ckets for 61 this year. The average cost per cket is $550. Please be as generous as you can to send our military home for the holidays. Note: We send all religious affiliaons, genders and races home, the Knights pay for the Chaplain’s selecons.
Flyers are available in the back of the church if you would like to send a donaon. The Knights thank you all for your connued support of our programs.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
Thank you for being a voice for mission on World Mission Sunday!
Our parish offered $2,763.00 to The Society for the Propagation of the Faith for the missionary work of the Church. This is a real blessing for the Missions! Please continue to pray for missionaries, and for the people to whom they bring the “Good News” of Jesus. May God bless you for your generous missionary spirit!
Supermarket Gi Card Sales
Shoprite, Wegman’s, and Foodtown gi cards have been sold at St. Jerome’s Church for several years. The purpose is to raise funds to support St. Jerome School. Cards are available in $25, $50, and $100 denominaons. The cost to the buyer equals the value of the card. The profit to St. Jerome School is 5% of the total sales. This may sound like a small amount, but it adds up.
Gi cards will be sold at St. Jerome Church: aer 7:30 am Mass every Sunday and on the 1st Sunday of every month before the 11am Mass.
At St. Mary’s: Gi cards will be sold on the 1st Sunday of every month before the 10am Mass.

Deacon’s Corner
A few days ago, I had the grand honor of participating in the Liturgy at a funeral mass of one of the original founders of St. Jerome Church and School – Carolyn Brady. She was, it could be said, “The last of her kind.”
Mrs. Brady was an elegant lady, an early President of the School P.T.A., the Rosary Altar Society, etc, etc, etc. It’s hard to believe, but Carolyn swam in different social waters at the time of the church’s founding. There were big families, one job per family, a black and white T.V. set, one car, and tuition paid for each St. Jerome student. The public trough and its benefits, were bypassed for the importance of a Catholic education.
Carolyn and her co-founders had adversities hard to imagine, such as; unwelcoming Protestant neighbors, the K.K.K.,(that’s right, the guys in sheets), indifferent governments, and a diocese that was “benign”, and that’s an understatement. Carolyn, her husband, Bob, and others like her, built our home here at St. Jerome. Also, with help of the super comando Filippini Sisters, built a wonderful school to educate their children and thousands more. Their reward was personal achievement, despite indifference often shown by society at large. It mattered not to those originalists, they pressed on, recognizing the value of love for the community and God.
Indifference is an apt description for today; Mom and Dad indifferent and therefore kids indifferent. And why not, since society is indifferent. To be sure, Carolyn and her co-founders had their own blemishes, but they were not founders, from their perch at the indifferent. And so, my fellow St. Jeromers, Our Lady of Hopers, let’s ask sweet Carolyn Brady and her fellow eternal reward to pray for us. And when needed, kick us in the pants, when we grow weak and surrender all Catholic values of God, family and community that they tried so hard to attain and protect from mediocre indifference.
Rest in Peace – Carolyn Brady Deacon Tony
