NOVEMBER 14th PARKING PREP CROSSING We respectfully request that parents don’t stop at the top of the driveway near the crossing as it causes a jam and it’s really not a safe place for children to exit cars. Over the school holiday our carparks are being asphalted with new lines and signs indicating the required traffic flow and parking areas. CAROLS DATE Last week I found myself in strife with Mr Hartley re the Carols night dates. In my newsletter article I advertised the wrong date so this year’s Christmas Carols will be held on Wednesday 4 th December with a backup day Wednesday 11 th December. 2020 STATIONARY PACKS & SCHOOL FEE DETAILS Next week we will distribute to families the 2020 school fees (a small increase of $5 from this year). We have been notified that the children’s 2020 stationary packs are arriving early December and will be available to parents on receipt of the first fee payment. GRADE 3&4 CAMP This morning I visited 4D where there were approximately 25 students from the whole grade 4 area. Many had taken the opportunity to sleep in after returning from their camp yesterday – no doubt the numbers will rise as the day progresses. The children had wonderful memories of the fun activities they experienced – canoeing, hut building, the water slide where several students and teachers hit speeds of 40 plus kph, the food received a thumbs up and apparently there were a few snorers. Our Grade 3’s arrive back on Friday afternoon and for many this is their first time away from home by themselves. There were lots of ‘teddies’ going on camp as well. Again thankyou to the staff and parents for providing our students with a wonderful experience. BOOK FAIR Congratulations to Leah Davidson and her helpers who once again held the Book Fair this week. This event provides children and parents the opportunity to purchase books at a reasonable price especially leading up to Christmas. Leah reported that they sold $4800 worth of books, which results in a commission of $1200 for us to spend on books for all children across the school. What another wonderful result! Again - thankyou to Leah and to her helpers. 2020 SCHOOL CAPTAIN SPEECHES It is again time to select our future School Captains. The school’s Leadership Team are currently reading all applications and will then shortlist 5 boys and 5 girls who will then present their speeches at the whole school assembly on 22nd November. Each year the quality of speeches improves and with so many suitable candidates it’s proving to be difficult task .After hearing the speeches at assembly, the whole school will vote in their classrooms with students indicating their preferred boy and girl School Captains. THE YEAR AHEAD – LEVEL TRANSITION Next Friday, the 22nd November, the children will experience their second transition session by moving up a grade level to continue the same transition activities and discussions with teachers at that level. These sessions will continue to provide children with information about excursions, camps, sporting events, school concert, Wakakirri, Chess Club, pen licence, etc. The purpose of these sessions is to build positivity and lessen any anxiety children may be experiencing about moving to a new building, new staff and programs.

DEPARTURES To assist our 2020 planning we would like to hear from families who are moving and their children not returning to The Basin PS. This information is required for the development of the class structure in 2020 and staffing. Please let us know in writing as soon as possible. Graeme Russell

“Thank you” Morning Tea for our Staff

On Wednesday 4th December the PFA are co-ordinating a morning tea for all our fabulous staff, to thank them for their tireless contributions to our children’s education this year. We are asking YOU to bring a plate of delicious food for the staff to enjoy. Home-made or bought, sweet or savoury, a fruit platter, muffins, to be reheated or cold….all will be welcome. Members of the PFA will also be bringing tasty treats. Please bring your contributions to the office either on Tuesday afternoon (3/12) or on Wednesday (4/12) at the start of the day, preferably on a plate that is compostable or recyclable. Any queries, please contact Lynne Simpson (whose son James is in 2H) via Messenger or email [email protected].
