Dear Friends, As we approach the season of giving thanks – although I think that season should be a twelve-month one – and as we approach the end of another liturgical year, gratitude fills my heart for all that we as a parish have accomplished. In this bulletin, you will receive the annual report. Just look at what

we have done, or, better said, just look at what God has done in and through us! God is the doer. We are the instruments. At Saint John Berchmans, God has done great things. The financial pages contain good news and some opportunities for improvement. As I look at the numbers, I see the obvious place for turnaround. We need more students!! We have an amazing school. Peggy Roket and her team have done yeoman’s work in building up the academic and co-curricular programs, from preschool to eighth grade. Test scores have soared. Our graduates attend only the finest academic institutions ( the best Catholic and selective enrolment high schools) after graduation. I know of many alumni from the class of 2013 applying for top ranked universities right at this time. Saint John Berchmans School should be full with a waiting list. With the leadership we have and the product that we produce, there is no reason for our school to not be at capacity – with waiting lists to boot. So how does this involve you? The financial wellbeing of the school depends significantly on enrollment numbers. I’d love to increase ours.You can help us spread the news of the great things happening at Saint John Berchmans School. You can consider transferring your school-age children to Saint John Berchmans in the fall (be aware that we have financial assistance available to make the school accessible to all). You can join the committees of the school board. There are many ways to get involved in the school’s success. The To Teach Who Christ Is campaign is coming to its

final weeks. We have good news and news that provides opportunities for us. The good news is that we are nearing $550,000 pledged (nearly 74% of our goal). On the other hand 85% of the parish and school community still has an oppertunity to give (some people call this “bad news” – not me) The money received represents gifts from less than 15% of us. My hope is that we will have 100% participation. When we do we will far exceed our goal. All should have received, by US Mail, an invitation to pledge. I hope you will – soon. I realize that this is a confusing time in the history of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and a financially challenging time for many. But I do hope that every household will prayerfully consider a gift to this campaign. Please return the card in the collection basket or drop it off in the parish office and your earliest convenience. If you have any questions about this campaign, including how the campaign could be affected by the Renew My Church initiative of the Archdiocese, please do not hesitate to contact Joe D’Arco or me. So as we prepare to end the Year of Mercy, I thank you – so, so many of you who have made mercy real in the life of Saint John Berchmans and in the neighborhood of Logan Square and beyond. God is doing wonders with you and in this great parish, and for that I am truly grateful.Peace,

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word will take place at the 9:45 a.m. Mass on Nov. 13. Children ages 3 to 2nd grade are invited to listen to the day’s Gospel and participate in related art, music and prayer activities in a program scaled to their understanding. The children adjourn to the church basement after the Introductory Rites of the Mass and return after the prayer petitions.

STEWARDSHIP WEEKENDS HIGHLIGHT OUR SHARED GIFTS

Last weekend you were asked to consider your call to ministry and encouraged to get involved, to join a ministry and multiply your blessings. If you are looking for inspiration there are booklets in the vestibule that detail the ministries and volunteer opportunities at St. John Berchmans. Please fill out a volunteer card and let us know where you would like to become more involved. You can drop the card at the parish office and someone will contact you. This weekend the parish’s Annual Report will be shared with you. Learn how your treasure enriches the life of our parish and balances the gifts of your time and your talent. Join a ministry, share your gifts, and invest in your faith community.

WOMEN’S FAITH CIRCLE:

The date for the November Women’s Faith Circle has been changed due to Election Day. The group will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the school chapel beginning at 7 p.m. The focus of the evening is “Gratitude Yoga.” Bring your mat, wear loose clothing, and come be refreshed. Don’t worry if you don’t have a mat or have never done yoga. The circle is always open. Feel free to bring a friend.

Dios ha hecho en y a través de nosotros! Dios es el creador. Nosotros somos los instrumentos. En San Juan Berchmans, Dios ha hecho grandes cosas. Las páginas financieras contienen buenas noticias y algunas oportunidades para mejorar. Al mirar los números, veo un lugar obvio que necesita transformación. ¡Necesitamos más estudiantes! Tenemos una increíble escuela. Peggy Roket y su equipo han hecho un excelente trabajo en la construcción de los programas académicos y co-curriculares, desde el grado preescolar hasta el octavo grado. LITURGIA DE LA PALABRA DE NIÑOS

La Liturgia de la Palabra para los Niños se llevará a cabo en la misa de 9:45 am el 13 de noviembre. Los niños de 3 años de edad hasta el 2º grado están invitados a escuchar el Evangelio del día y participar en actividades de arte, música y oraciones relacionadas en un programa de acuerdo a su edad. Los niños bajan al salón parroquial después de los Ritos Iniciales de la Misa y vuelven después de las peticiones de oración.

El pasado fin de semana se le pidió que considerara su llamado al ministerio y que se animara a involucrarse, unirse a un ministerio y multiplicar sus bendiciones. Si está buscando inspiración, hay folletos en el vestíbulo que detallan los ministerios y las oportunidades de voluntariado en St. John Berchmans. Por favor, llene una tarjeta de voluntarios y háganos saber dónde le gustaría participar. Puede dejar la tarjeta en la oficina parroquial y alguien se pondrá en contacto con usted. CÍRCULO DE MUJERES DE FE

La fecha para la reunión del mes de noviembre del Grupo del Círculo de Mujeres de Fe se ha cambiado debido al día de la elección. El grupo se reunirá el martes, 15 de noviembre, en la capilla de la escuela a partir de las 7 p.m. El enfoque de la noche es “Yoga de Gratitud.” Traiga su alfombra de yoga, use ropa suelta, y cómoda. No se preocupe si usted no tiene una alfombra o si nunca ha hecho yoga. El círculo está siempre abierto. No dude en traer una amiga.
