Let Us Renew A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t re-member a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wast-ing theirs by giving sermons at all.” This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: “I’ve been married for 30 years now… In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this… They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!” This week’s homily (which will hopefully provide you nourishment) will be based on the Gospel where Jesus predicts the destruction of the temple and a chronicle of catastro-phes. Many Jews at the time of Jesus believed that the end of the world would be sig-naled by the destruction of the temple. In the Gospel instead of destruction and dread, Jesus teaches of hope. Jesus assures his disciples who stay faithful that they will have nothing to fear. St. Paul also tries to encourage the Thessalonians that they have nothing to fear if they imitate him. For he followed Jesus and lived his life fully working for and fol-lowing the Lord. He believed that one teaches better through actions. The Jubilee Year of Mercy as it ends invites everyone to stay strong in their vocation, and to follow Jesus and be merciful like the Lord. The Parish Family Retreat this week will give us a lot of nourishment for our lives to grow strong in our faith. The mercy of God will become visible to each one of us as we renew our commitment. Let us join together as a family, pray together, worship together and prepare for this great mercy which God has for our community. This is what the retreat will guide us into. We will be nourished to imitate Jesus and become the mercy of God with full hope to every believer. Let us join together to equip fully to share the mercy of God. When we share God’s mer-cy, every little act which we do has meaning and it leads to something better for us and for others. Your Fr. Benny

DID YOU KNOW? Bullying prevention starts at home
From cyberbullying to name-calling and exclusion, bullying can affect people of every age, especially kids and teens in school. Their peers can be cruel, so it’s important to talk about how to handle bullies, especially before a situation es-calates. One way to stop the cycle of bullying in its tracks, is to teach kids to speak kindly to others and to treat eve-ryone around them with respect.
