The Registry: Responsible for administration of Crown Mineral and Onshore Petroleum Rights

• Receives applications for mineral and petroleum rights and issues and registers licences or leases

• Maintains maps of current rights disposition

• Monitors exploration activities in Nova Scotia

• Provides information on past exploration and mining activities

The Mineral and Petroleum Registry

Current Status:

• Over 700,000 Acres of land under Licence for mineral exploration

• Almost 3 million acres under licence for onshore petroleum exploration

Current Status:

• More than $11 million in exploration expenditures recorded this year (September 2012)

• 60 new prospectors registered (September 2011)

• Exploration work must be done each year to maintain licence

• In 2009 this was $3,743,728

• In 2008 this was $15,035,159

This work must be approved before licence is renewed
