BeginningDecember1stCAMSNwillbechangingtoanannualpaidmembershipsystem.
There are over 45,000 medical-surgical RegisteredNurses in Canada. Medical-surgical nurses form thelargest single group of nursing professionals in healthcare and make up over 18% of all RNs working inCanada!Since CAMSN was created in 2006, membership hasbeen free and the process of tracking membership,contactingmembers, distributing newsletters, etc., hasbeen done manually by the executive members on avolunteerbasis.AsCAMSNmembershipnumbershavesignificantly increased over the past twelve years, theCAMSNBoardofDirectors,withthesupportoftheCNA,have decided to move to an annual paid membershipsystem, utilizing X-CD Technologies to assist us inmanaging our association and future nationalconferences.While nationallymed-surg numbers are quite notable,CAMSN has just over 1200 members. The CAMSNExecutive team would like to provide more for ourmembersandbelievethatX-CDTechnologieswillplayavaluable role in assisting us to serve the nationalmedical-surgicalnursingcommunity.Wehopethat theimprovements made through these organizationalchangestoourassociationwillnotonlyhelpusrecruitmoremembersandgrowasanassociation,butwillalsoallowustoprovidemoreforyou,ourvaluedmembers.

Annie Chevrier has been involved in teaching at both the undergraduate andgraduate levels of study in nursing since 2009. Prior to taking on a full timepositionatMcGillinAugust2013,shehadworkedinvariouspositionsinacutecarehealthinstitutions.Shehasheldseveraladvancednursingpracticerolesin several specialties, namely in-patient and out-patient medical-surgical
nursing,internalmedicineaswellasacuteandcriticalcare.SheparticipatesasanurserepresentativeinmanysteeringcommitteesoftheMUHCspecificallymandatedtoimprovethequalityandthesafetyof patient care. Specific areas of interest include inter-professional education and practice,professional development of nursing practice, quality and safety improvement of patient care,diabetes care, wound care, and acute and critical care nursing. She is currently participating inresearch focussedonquality improvement initiatives fordiabetescareinadultpopulations.Annie isexcitedtobeinvolvedwithCAMSNandlooksforwardtomeetingyouatthe2020BiennialConference.
AshleyAhuja,RN,BScNCAMSNPresidentElect
Ashley Ahuja is a Registered Nurse on the Acute Care Nursing Resource Team (ACNRT) atSunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Ontario. As a float nurse she has had theopportunitytosupportnursingunitsintheareasofMedicalSurgical,Oncology,LevelIICUandtheEmergencydepartment.ShewasrecentlyelectedasCo-ChairforSunnybrook’sCorporateNursing Council. Ashley has worked closely with the CNA Specialty Network as a NetworkAdvisory CommitteeMember in 2016 – 2017. Ashley is excited for this new opportunity toserveontheCAMSNExecutiveandenhanceMedicalSurgicalnursingcareacrossCanada.
LauraVogelsang,RN,PhD(c),CMSN(C)ExternalCommunicationsOfficer
Laura is aFacultymemberwith theLethbridgeCollegeRNProgram,PhDstudent, andaproudMedical-Surgicalnurse!Laura’snursingbackgroundisprimarilygeneralmedicinehowevershehasalsoworkedongeriatric,cardiac,andrenalfocusedunits.LauracompletedherbaccalaureateeducationattheUniversityofLethbridge and itdidn’t takeher long to realize that alongwith caring for theadult population,nursingeducationalsohadaspecialplace inherheart.Herdesiretosupportandeducatethenextgenerationofnurses led her to Saskatoon where she took the course-based master’s program at the University ofSaskatchewanandbeganaPhD,whichsheisstillcurrentlyworkingon.Ongoingprofessionaldevelopmentandbedsidepracticehasalways remaineda priority forLauraand in2015 shewrote theCNAMedical-SurgicalCertificationexam.IfyouaskLaura,shewillsaythatitwasequallychallengingandfulfilling–shewould encourage anyone thinking about it to take the plunge! Laura is looking forward to joining theCAMSNExecutiveteamandcommunicatingalloftheexcitingthingsgoingonwithCAMSN!

JasmineHill,RN,MScN,CMSN(C)CAMSNTreasurer&ConferenceCoordinator
Jasmine is the Advanced Pratice Nurse for the Surgical Services at the McGill University Health Center(MUHC), Royal Victoria Hospital in Montréal, QC. In 2007, she graduated from the John Abbott CollegeNursingProgramandbeganhernursingcareeronageneralsurgicalunit.SincethenshehasalsoworkedasaNursingclinical instructor for JohnAbbottCollegeandforSanofi-AventisandRochePharmaceuticalcompanieswiththefocusoncoachingandsupportingpatientswithdiabetestobettermanagetheircare.In2012, she graduated from the University of Ottawa’s Master’s of Science in Nursing program with aconcentration in tertiary care. In her current role, Jasmine covers a wide variety of specialities from:General Surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, hepatobiliary, and Ambulatorycare.Herareasofexpertise includeclinical,consultation,education,quality improvementprojects,policyandprotocoldevelopment,andresearch.OneofJasmine’smainstrengthsisworkingwithandimprovingthe care for the tracheostomy and laryngectomy patient population. She has been one of the mainchampionsinthedevelopmentofthetracheostomyandlaryngectomyprogramsattheMUHC.Herpassionhas always been to improve the quality of care by collaborating with the bedside nurses and otherhealthcarestaffandbyexploringthepatient’sandtheirfamily’shealthcareexperiences.
NikkiPyl,RN,MScN,CMSN(C)CAMSNConferenceCoordinator
Nikki Pyl has been a Nurse Educator at the Ottawa Hospital for over 5 years, spanning coverage forspecializedprogramsinAmbulatoryCare,Apheresis,InfectiousDiseases,andMedicine.Currentlyherfocusisonthemedicalandsurgicalmanagementofthesurgicaloncology,colorectalandhepato-biliarypatientpopulation. Nikki obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Ottawa/AlgonquinCollege collaborative program. She took on many leadership roles as a clinical nurse working in theinpatientsurgerydepartment,whichinspiredhertocompleteherMastersinNursingattheUniversityofOttawa.NikkirecentlycompletedhercertificationinMedicalSurgicalnursingwiththeCNAandislookingforwardtobeinginvolvedwithCAMSNasaConferenceCoordinator!
