“Count your blessings;

name them one by one…” I have always loved that great old hymn, not only for the upbeat tune, but for the reminder of the joy of counting our blessings. God has blessed us in so many ways—so many ways we forget or take for granted: food, clean drinking water, clothing, shelter, electric, heat, a/c, school, work or retirement, the ability to breathe, walk, talk, and run, fami-ly, friends, God’s beautiful creation, a God who created us and loves us, a nice community in which to live, a loving church family, and the list could go on forever… As I was thinking about my bless-ings, the first ones that came to my mind are, of course, Becka and Sarah. What a blessing and joy they are to me and to many! Every once in a while, someone will com-ment about what a blessing I am to them. I realize that in my head, but, honestly, I don’t think about that very much. I am so thankful to God for them and the blessing they are to me and will be to many through-out their lives, I often don’t even think about how I bless them. I could say the same of you. Very kindly, many of you re-cently sent me notes of love and appreciation for Pastor Appreciation Month. Thank you! In your notes, many of you thanked me for blessing you and Christ UMC. I cer-tainly want to be a blessing to all of you at Christ UMC, but in the almost four and a half years I have been here, I of-ten think about how you have been a blessing to me (and my family)!! You are such a gift to us!!! When we truly love people and feel blessed by them, we want to serve and help them. We don’t think of it as a bur-den (at least not most of the time), but thank God for the joy and blessing they are to us. And that is exactly what God intended... Many years ago, God called Abraham to leave his home-land, his family (except his wife and nephew), and every-thing he knew and loved, and go to a foreign land God would show him. God told Abraham:

“I will make you into a great nation and I will BLESS you;

I will make your name great, and you will be a BLESSING.”

(Genesis 12:2, NIV)

To use a modern paraphrase of this verse, God was telling Abraham, “You are blessed to be a blessing.” The reason God blesses us (in addition to the fact that he loves us) is so we can be a blessing to others. Why would

God do that? He knows what a JOY it is to be a blessing to others. He knows that if we focus on blessing others, we don’t focus on ourselves. If we focus on blessing God and others, God will bless countless people through us—so when they count their blessings, they will count us! As part of the body of Christ, God calls us to love, build up, encourage, help, pray for, and bless one another—so God can bless us and others through us. In this season of thankfulness and counting our blessings, may we not only count God’s blessings to us, but also the ways we are blessed when God blesses others through us. As members of Christ United Methodist Church, we vowed to God that we would support the church with our

prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness. Why? Because we are blessed to be a blessing. I don’t think there is any greater joy than knowing that God is working and blessing others through us. Therefore, during worship in November, we’re going to focus on counting our blessings, spe-cifically, how God blesses us as he blesses others through us. I very much encourage you to make

every effort to join us for worship each week in No-vember as we celebrate together how we as a church family are blessed to be a blessing! On Nov. 23, we will have a special Commitment Sun-day when we will give thanks to God for the many ways we are blessed to be a blessing. We will have the oppor-tunity to commit or recommit ourselves to each of the five membership vows and to celebrate how Christ UMC is blessed to be a blessing to the Baltimore community and the world! I hope and pray you will join us—so we may all continue to be a blessing to others as God blesses others through us! Very thankful to God for you and the blessing you are to me, my family, and to many!

Adoption Update:

Thank you, again, for your continued love, support, and prayers

for Becka, soon-to-be Sarah, and me! The magistrate finally

signed the permanent custody order, so on Nov. 2, I will go to

Dayton to sign the papers to make Sarah an adoptive placement. I

have scheduled her baptism for Sunday, Nov. 30, in the 10:45

a.m. service. (I thought about waiting until our combined ser-

vice on Dec. 21, but I didn’t want to ask my family to miss special

Christmas celebrations at their own churches.) Because things

have taken so long, I won’t be able to finalize Sarah’s adoption

before February, but I praise God for my two precious, beautiful,

and wonderful gifts from God!

It’s time again to think about giving thanks for all the

blessings we have. According to the scripture above from

Ephesians, this should be a natural part of our Spirit-filled

lives. But generally, we aren’t very grateful…we grumble

and complain a great deal. I’m going to try to be much

better about living with gratitude (and leaving out the grum-

bling). November would be a good month to concentrate

on that. Here’s something to help us all.

P ~ Pray and Praise God daily

R ~ Respond to God and others by the guidance

from daily Bible readings and prayers

A ~ Act. Don’t just “plan to” (good intentions), but

go for it and maintain an attitude of praise.

I ~ Initiate both fellowship and quiet time. Invite a

friend to Bible study or give encouragement to oth-ers.

S ~ Seek God’s will and direction daily. Be in tune

to His “nudges.”

E ~ Evangelize enthusiastically. Tell others about

our Lord.

At the 10:45 Contemporary Worship service, our November Praise Song of the Month is "10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)" by English worship leader/lyricist Matt Redman and Swe-dish composer Jonas Myrin. Because we have more than "10,000 Reasons" to "Bless the Lord, O my Soul," we celebrate our Savior in song.

This praise song is based on Psalm 103's opening vers-es. The Psalm's author, David, lists several reasons why his heart is full of worship for the Lord: God forgives our sins, heals our diseases, redeems our lives from the pit, crowns us with love and compassion, satisfies our desires and gives righteousness and justice. Redman and Myrin made a list of their own reasons for praise, noting they were barely scratching the surface of God's worth.

"The point behind the song is this," explained Redman to Worship Leader Magazine. "If you wake up one morning and you cannot think of a reason to bring God some kind of offering of thanks or praise, then you can be sure there's something wrong at your end of the pipeline, and not His. We live beneath an unceasing flow of goodness, kindness, greatness, and holiness, and every day we're given reason after reason why Jesus is so completely and utterly worthy

of our highest and best devotion."

Praise Song of The Month: "Blessings" By Laura

Story After almost losing her husband to a brain tumor in 2006, Laura Story’s song “Blessings” was written as a reminder that God remains faithful even when things don’t turn out the way we expect them to.

“Life is filled with things you don’t expect, but the Bible tells

us to respond by trusting God and continuing to worship

Him,” she says. “God has grown us up, deepened our

faith, our awareness of our great need for Him as a savior,

daily. We knew it before, but we didn’t see it.”

The song ended up earning her a Grammy for Best Con-

temporary Christian Music Song in 2012 and in addition to

touching millions of lives musically, Laura went on to write

a 30-day devotional book based on the song.

CARA NOYES Praise Band News

After the financial campaign for the Family Life Center concluded with pledges in excess of $300,000 to be paid in 3 years, construction proceeded. The estimated cost was $1,500,000 (approximately the cost of the church in 2005 when it was built in 1966). The original hope was that in addition to the gymnasium, the structure was to in-clude offices and a Welcome Center Connection between the two buildings. As the bids came in it became obvious that the offices and Welcome Center would have to be added sometime later.

Ruscilli, a general construction firm from the Columbus area, was chosen as the main contractor. There were eventually 35 subcontractors involved in the many phases on the construction. After the ground breaking ceremony on Sunday, March 11, 2007, construction started and soon many machines and men were on the site. The workers were courteous, clean and well organized. Mike Mustard was the General Foreman and under his oversight the building process proceeded in an orderly manner.

At the beginning of the construction, the main driveway that had been in use since 1967, was closed off and the second entrance that was moved a little further east be-came the only access to the parking lot. The workers made certain that the parking lot was as clean as possible and parking was available for use of the church patrons and visitors. As November rains came, the parking lot was sometimes very muddy. Parking was uncertain on those days. On November 30, 2007 the parking lot was given a partial coat of asphalt.

There were delays and changes caused by ground condi-tions or subcontractors who were late completing their por-

tion of the structure. November 25, Mike Crumm, an em-ployee of the Delta Heating & Air-Conditioning Company fell and was seriously injured. Casey Farmer, a member of the church and an Emergency Medical Technician in Balti-more, was on the crew that took him to Grant Hospital in Columbus. Mike died a day later.

As the Family Life Center neared completion in late 2007, the opportunity for members to have something personal included in the new structure was made available. Six by six inch ceramic tiles were provided and members who chose to do one were invited to personalize the tiles with designs and words of faith, as well as, their names. A tile was made in memory of Mike Crumm. These tiles are dis-played in the entryway of the Family Life Center.

Almost yearly since 1966 when Christ UMC was complet-ed, there has been leaks from the original roofing, espe-cially around the steeple. During the construction of the Family Life Center, a new metal roof was installed over the Sanctuary section. It should last for generations. The shin-gle roof had been replaced twice and changes had been made in the roof base which did not correct the problem. The roofing project was started in January 2007 and was completed by September. In 2008 it was evident that there were still leaks around the steeple area. Arnold Roofing was hired to solve the problem. They used a rubber spray on the inside of the steeple which they felt would stop the leak. It did not work! A new emergency exit door in the Sanctuary was installed on the northwest side. It opens out onto the north lawn and is seldom used.

M CRAFT & ANTIQUE SHOW Thanks!!!

We would like to say CONGRATULATION and a BIG

THANK YOU to all of you who helped to make the 2014

Craft/Antique Show a huge success. To those who helped

with setting up placements for vendors Friday morning,

those who helped the vendors bring in their wares Friday

evening and Saturday morning and helped the vendors

pack and load their wares Saturday afternoon after the

show. We are truly grateful to the Good Timers who

worked and prepared food for the luncheon, the bakers

and bake sale chairman and helpers, the greeters, ticket

sellers and cashiers, those who shuttled vendors back

and forth to the elementary school, the runners who

served drinks and lunches to the vendors throughout the

day, our publicity chairman, door prize chairman and her

helpers, Pastor Alice, office staff, custodians and the

clean up crew including the Boy Scouts and those of you

who just showed up and offered help. You are greatly

appreciated and we are sure that our Heavenly Father

was very pleased to watch HIS church family working to-

gether as a team in HIS name. What a JOY!!!

In closing, we share with you several comments that were

As you can see, this makes the whole day truly a blessing as

we fellowship with one another and perhaps bring new

sheep into our fold. Again, THANKS for all of your help! May

God bless each of you as you were a blessing to others

throughout the two days as we worked and fellowshipped

together so that we could continue with the ministries of our

church, mission projects, our community, country and the

world.

Good Neighbors in the Village UPDATE:

The Good Neighbors in the Village has had a busy 2

months since partnering with the Fairfield County Center for

Disabilities on ramp building. Three ramps have been in-

stalled with two to go. The ramps are mobile units that can

be reused and which are customized to each individual’s

need. Glen (Geb) Bader Jr. is heading this effort. We will

need to have a team of volunteers so that we can fulfill the

needs when Geb and others are out of town, etc. Please

call Geb (862-4775) or Gayle McCreery (740 438-3820) if

you would like to help building or installing ramps in the

north county area.

BOARD MEETING, ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Monday

November 10 at 6 PM at Faith Lutheran Church (990

South Main, Baltimore).

Officers are: Chair, Vice-Chair, Recording Secretary, and

Treasurer. Our unfilled position right now is that of Record-

ing Secretary. We meet quarterly—only once every 3

months. This is an important meeting so please come and

support Good Neighbors in the Village as a board member

or as an interested neighbor!

Step up and step out in this outreach ministry to neigh-

bors in the Baltimore/Thurston area. There are many ways

to serve. Bible Study at Walnut Creek, Senior Chair Volley-

abundant goodness and joyfully sing of

your righteousness.”

This is the month we all really try to remember

to be thankful for the gifts God has blessed us

with. Sometimes we are more successful than

others. Sometimes we forget that others are not

as fortunate as we are. Besides giving out

thanksgiving to God, we can also help others to have more

to be thankful for.

This month I would like to challenge us all to be more inten-

tional in our pantry participation. This month I am asking all

of you that are reading this to provide one (1) meal, break-

fast, lunch or dinner, for a family of four (4) each Sunday of

the month.

“Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave! We continue to reach out with our various ministry opportunities, but there are additional opportunities throughout the county. We will continue to support many of these ministries with our “Coins for Missions” program. You have been faithful with your giving, which is allowing us to be a Beacon of Light in this community, our home! Listed are some of the many opportunities throughout Fairfield County to serve and support. Prayerfully consider these, and all of the ministries at Christ UMC and may God Bless us as we strive to bring His Kingdom on Earth!

need of canned vegetables and fruit.

As these meals add up, we may come to understand the

plies frozen meats, cheese, butter, eggs and bread in addi-

tion to many of the non-perishable items we so unselfishly

supply.

try. May this month find you and your loved ones abun-

dantly blessed.

Thank-you to the "Noodlers" for all their hard work in October, 41 1/2 dozen eggs were made into noo-dles. We will be making noodles again the second week of Novem-ber. We will take orders, but hope-fully will have plenty available that may be purchased after church ser-vices or in the church office after No-vember 12th. They will be on sale for $3.50 for 1 pound. Cookie Friesner & “friends” will be

Once again this year we are collecting personal items for our Senior Citizens of the Baltimore ar-ea. We did this pro-ject last year at Christmas time and we were amazed at how many indi-viduals were very needy! It was a very heart-warming and eye-opener for those of us who were involved. We have decided to open this up to our church family this year. We will start collecting the following items starting the first part of December:

GIFTS FOR SENIORS

There is a need for another nursery worker on Sunday's. We have three dedicated people and a fourth would allow all to work just one Sunday a month. This position starts at 8:00 AM and goes to 12:00PM. It is a paying position and we try to keep it to once a month. A current background check is required, but can be done through Pas-tor Alice. If you enjoy babies this is the chance for you to spoil them for a few hours. Please contact me if you have questions or will be willing to step in on this. The ladies that are currently work-ing (and the previous workers) are providing a great service to the parents of our church. Jane Farmer

Thank you Jennifer Miller, Susan Maxwell and Mary Johnson for chairing the annual turkey supper for the past 8 years when it was sponsored by the Joy Sunday School Class.

The tradition continues...same event...same menu...same Satur-day. The Good Timers will coordi-nate this very popular church and community event this year and ask that all church members continue to support it with their help, their attendance and their home-made pies.

The part–time Youth Director position (20 hours per week) will plan, coordi-nate and oversee youth ministries at the church that reach out to and con-nect youth in the community. Dear Friends,

When the Oxygen Supply Company came

today to pick up their supplies I had been

using and did not need anymore, I realized

again how thankful I am for answered

prayers. I also realized I had neglected to

send a thank you to our Prayer Chain and all of my

church family who also prayed for me during my illness

last winter. Thanks to all of you for all the cards and visits

through that time. They certainly helped. I am not out of

the woods yet and would still appreciate your prayers as

I continue each day. I am so fortunate to have such a

caring church family.
