Our aim is to provide a diverse range of activities that will supplement your existing programme, as we recognise that outdoor activities are a vital part of Scouting. This outdoor element is essential to develop our youngsters so please read this brochure, if nothing appeals to you then please pass it on to another leader in your group who may be interested. You will find in this brochure opportunities for both youngsters and for adults. Nottinghamshire Scouts organise and run this programme of activities as support to Scouting in Nottinghamshire. Some of the activities are led by volunteers and some use outside providers, this is made clear for each activity. However all activities are run to the highest standards, with the safety of participants paramount. We aim to provide quality activities that complement your sections programme so providing safe fun activities. A bursary scheme is available to subsidise the cost of any adult national governing body course, ask at the time of booking. A completed booking form & Deposit of 20% MUST be sent within the 10 days of the provi- sional booking. Submit forms to:- County Resource Centre, Trinity House, Unit One, Robey Close, Linby, Nottinghamshire, NG15 8AA If the booking form is not received within the 10 days your provisional booking will be cancelled. An acknowledgement and receipt of the booking will be provided by return. You must confirm your numbers 6 weeks in advance of the course. (No refunds will be given after this date). Four weeks prior to the activity, joining instructions, health forms and an invoice will be sent out to participants or Group Leaders as appropriate.

Module 10 First Aid TrainingWe run a variety of first aid training opportunities for Explorer Scout, Scout Network members and Leaders. For leaders module 10 (first response) or an equivalent is a requirement for all new leaders and those renewing warrants.

2 Feb, 9 & 20 April, 7 Sep, 27 Oct, 24 NovFirst Response FREE at Linby 9.30am - 2.30pmFirst Response first aid course, a very basic course that is only valid within the Scout & Guide movements, this is module 10 of the Adult Leader Training Scheme

First Response Refreshers FREE 27 January, 1 July, 3 December 7.30pm at Linby A new course of 2 hours that will allow you to renew your existing first response within the 3 year period.

Basic First Aid £12 Dates TBC, please book your interest the County OfficeFirst Aid Course, this is a first aid basic course that gives you a certificate in first aid that can be used outside of the movement. Part 1 is the basic course with addition of part 2 it then covers the advanced syllabus including practical scenarios.

Water Activity Opportunities Farndon, Newark, NottsWater Weekend £30 17-19 May, 7-9 June, 21-23 June,12-14 July,13-15 SeptThis is an exciting weekend with the opportunity to sample a variety of different water activities, these include Kayaking, Open Canoes, Motor Boats and raft racing. We are now offering more weekends but limiting the number on them to 30 each weekend. This will allow us to tailor the activities to the participant’s requirements, so if a group have 8 youngsters who want to do their One Star Canoeing then this can be arranged.The options available are 1.Multi Activity, 2.Level 1 or 2 Powerboat course, 3.One or Two star Canoe & Kayaking or a mixture of some of these. Book your places initially and then sort the exact mix out nearer the time. These weekends are suitable for Scouts, Explorers & Network members.

Adults Canoe & Kayak Training Weekend £20 20 – 21 AprilA weekend for adults (must be over 18) who might want any of the following, Skills Training in Canoes, Skills Training in Kayaks, Activity Permit Assessments for Canoes, Activity Permit Assessments for Kayaks. On the Saturday we will offer the training or assessment depending upon your experience and needs. On the Sunday we will be running a Foundation Safety and Rescue Course (FSRT), this is a BCU safety course, if you already hold this then we can offer further skills training. The cost of the weekend is £20 if you want to do both days including the FSRT course or £10 if you want the training etc.

3 Star Kayak Course £20 25 April start - all ThursdaysA 6- 8 week course to get you up to 3 Star standard, prerequisites are, 2 Star and be able to bring your own boat (ask if not).

Level One Powerboat £35 22 & 23 JuneThis is the real basic entry level for those with no experience at all in power boats. For Scouts over 12 years, it also qualifies as the power coxswain badge, one day course at Farndon.

Level Two Power Boat £70 25-26 MayIdeally for those with powerboat experience, but will start with the basics and gives a good grounding in powerboats for Explorers and Adults, two day course at Farndon.

Safety Boat £70 20-21 JulyThis is the next level up and is appropriate for those providing safety boat cover for water activities with a power boat and is intended for Adults. Pre requisite level 2 power boat.

Come and try it Sailing £5 each 24 April, 1, 8, 15 May @ Hoveringham, 6.30-8.30pm 11 May, 8 June (am or pm sessions) Kings Mill Reservoir, MansfieldWe are running come and try it sessions for groups to have a taster session in sailing. Groups of up to 12 participants of Scout, Explorer, Network or Adult members, these are either morning, afternoon or evening sessions.

Youth Sailing Courses £40 starting 22 MayThis is a eight week course in sailing for the complete beginner which will be up to the RYA youth stage 2, this will give you the opportunity to learn to sail either a single handed dinghy or help to crew a larger boat. The course is for Scouts and Explorer Scouts & will be held at Nottingham County Sailing club, at Hoveringham. All evening sessions are on Wednesday evenings starting at 6.30pm and finishing about 8.30pm. Those that attended last year or already hold the stage 2 or 3 can move on to the next level.

Boat InspectionsRemember these need renewing every 3 years by the County also every year by the authorisation holder plus a check every time used.

Hillwalking and Climbing Opportunities

8 - 10 Nov, 6 - 8 Dec 2013 Lake District £38 2014: 17 -19 Jan Yorkshire Dales £40 7 - 9 Feb Cheviots £40Winter Walking Weekend 14 - 16 March, North Wales £40These weekends are intended for both Scouts and Explorer Scouts of mixed ability. A fantastic experience and a great training/learning weekend! The cost includes all food, accommodation and supervision.

Adults Hillwalking Training £10 Excludes camp fees and food 13& 14 April - DerbyshireWe are running a training weekend for hillwalking in Derbyshire on 13 & 14 April 2013. This course is aimed at any adult who wants to get to Terrain One Standard, and will cover, navigation, group control, and equipment together with advice on routes. This course will be based at a Peak District campsite with instruction from one of our experienced outdoor team. There may be the chance of being assessed for an activity permit, depending upon previous experience.

Rock Climbing & Walking Day £5 each 12 May, 8 June, 23 June, 6 JulyThis is a half day Rock Climbing and half day Hillwalking. For this activity we can accept groups of up to ten participants and two groups can be booked on each day, Ideal for Scouts & Explorers.

Rock Climbing Day £5 each 14 April, 14 September

This is a full day Rock Climbing for up to 12 older Scouts or Explorers. This is a long day spent climbing a variety of routes at one venue, groups need to be keen to climb all day. There is the option of completing the Rock Climbing proficiency badge, to do this we need to add an extra evening before the day in Derbyshire please advise when booking.

Adults Rock Climbing Training £10Excluding camp fees and food 13 & 14 April DerbyshireThis course is aimed at any adult who wants to be able to supervise single pitch rock climbing, and will cover set ups, group control, equipment, together with advice on routes. This can be for Novices or those with more experience who want to brush up their skills.

This course will be based at a Peak District campsite with instruction from one of our experienced outdoor team. There may be the chance of being assessed for an activity permit, depending upon previous experience.

Mountain Biking £15 11 May, 19 May, 23 June, 14 July, 21 Sept This is for Scouts, Explorers or Network members of up to 14 on each date, the routes can be chosen to suit the ability of the group. This is full days Mountain Biking locally in Sherwood Forest with a proven provider who provides instruction and quality bikes. A great day.

BMX Biking £5 13 May, 20 May, 10 June,17 June,8 JulyThe BMX Biking has proven to be a real hit so we are offering this again, for those of you who went on the County Activity day you will had a go with the small bikes. So we are offering Monday evenings at Warsop, Nr Mansfield from 7 -9pm and cost £5 each which includes hire of bikes, instructor & safety gear, groups of up to 16.

Assessments for Activity PermitsFor those wanting activity permits in hillwalking, rock climbing, canoeing, sailing and powerboating you will need to complete a practical assessment. These can be arranged by contacting the County Office.
