A Word from Father Ed.
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Next weekend is Father Albert’s final weekend as parochi-al vicar of Notre Dame Parish. After each Mass we will host a reception giving everyone an opportunity personally to say good-bye. The reception will take place in the grotto area (weather permitting). Yesterday (Saturday) our fellow parishioner, Denise Seery, graduated from the Catholic Biblical School (CBS), having completed the full four-year course of studies. Join me in congratulating her and all of this year’s graduates. The CBS is the first-in-the-nation biblical school for the lai-ty. To this day it offers the best-in-the-nation programming for the study of the bible. I highly encourage parishioners to attend. This coming year a first-year class is being held Tues-day evenings at the nearby Christ on the Mountain Parish. For more information on first year classes go to: http://sjvdenver.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Schedule-20182019-New-CBS-CCS-Class-Locations.pdf. On Friday our grade school completed another year of providing an excellent Catholic education, touching hearts and teaching minds. Congratulations to all our students, their families, and our teachers. Exciting academic programs under the leadership of our new principal, Greg Caudle, are being planned. Now is the time to contact us and register for our new school year. Next Sunday, June 10, I will celebrate the 11:00 a.m. Mass and extend a special blessing to our parishioner high school graduates. We have a special gift for them as well. All Notre Dame 2018 high school graduates are invited to at-tend. We sent invitations to all Notre Dame graduates about whom we know, but don’t want to miss anyone. If you are or know of a Notre Dame high school graduate, please send me an email so that we can extend an invitation to him/her as well. Finally (but not least of all), today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, or The Body (and Blood) of Christ. I want to take this opportunity to thank you, the people of Notre Dame Parish, for the reverent and devoted manner in which you celebrate the Eucharist. The manner in which a com-munity celebrates the Eucharist is the singular expression of what it believes and proclaims to the world. A parish com-munity which reverently and devotedly celebrates the Eu-charist witnesses to its belief in Jesus, who said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6), and then again, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you” (Jn. 6:53). Such is a community that others will want to join for its integrity of life and living. Having said that, I ask everyone to consider how he/she might even more reverently celebrate the Eucharist—one’s manner of dress, timeliness in congregating, paying attention to Mass and not to one’s phone, etc. Remember: the Mass is not a picnic or baseball game, but the very sacred crucifixion and resurrection of the Son of God, our savior, Jesus Christ.

Discover why this tiny piece of land is sacred to three major religions through the stories of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim families who call Jerusalem home; and follow the path of archaeologists revealing some of the mysteries of the Old City. Rare and breathtaking footage of the Holy Land makes this a stunning cinematic experience. This film is a perfect complement to the new Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition, which will be offered in July. $19.50 includes admission to IMAX and the Museum of Nature and Science. Office of Evangelization & Faith Formationooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnn
QUESTION OF THE WEEK – Corpus Christi Sunday Do I believe that what I receive in communion is the True Presence of Christ’s Body and Blood?
His own act, at supper seated; Christ ordain'd to be repeated In His memory divine; Wherefore now, with adoration, We, the host of our salvation, Consecrate from bread and wine. Hear, what holy Church maintaineth, That the bread its substance changeth Into Flesh, the wine to Blood. Doth it pass thy comprehending? Faith, the law of sight transcending Leaps to things not understood.
Those above stanzas come from the Sequence (Lauda Sion) read or sung at the Corpus Christi Mass. It was written by St. Thomas Aquinas in 1264 after Pope Urban V asked him to write Prayers and Hymns for the new Mass to be instituted for the new feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. In his own words, St. Thomas Aquinas talked about the Mass and the Eu-charist: “O banquet most precious! O banquet most admirable! O banquet over-flowing with every spiritual delicacy! Can anything be more excellent than this repast, in which not the flesh of goats and heifers, as of old, but Christ the true God is given us for nourishment? What more wondrous than this holy sacrament! In it bread and wine are changed substantially, and under the appearance of a little bread and wine is had Christ Jesus, God and per-fect Man. In this sacrament sins are purged away, virtues are increased, the soul is satiated with an abundance of every spiritual gift. No other sacra-ment is so beneficial. Since it was instituted unto the salvation of all, it is offered by Holy Church for the living and for the dead, that all may share in its treasures.” We have the great gift of coming to the altar each and every week… every day if we wanted. The gift of Christ’s presence remains with us forever that we should be able to remain close with Him. Do we appreciate that? Do we realize that every time we receive communion we are taking into ourselves the very Person responsible for saving us from our sins? From eter-nal separation from God? How do we take His presence with us into the world? Thank you, Jesus, for your Body and Blood.
