Message from Sr. Anne Lafferty IHM, Spanish Apostolate Associate
Dear Friends, May the peace of the Risen Lord fill your hearts and your homes! This is my first opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus with you. My name is Sister Anne M. Laf-ferty, I´m a member of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), I´m from South Philadelphia and spent most of my religious life in South America. Upon returning to the USA in 2018 I was assigned here to accompany the Hispanic Community, it´s a real privilege to do so. Sharing God´s Word is one of my greatest joys. After Jesus discovered his true mission in the desert he went to his hometown, Nazareth, the Scripture says, filled with the Spirit. Upon entering the synagogue, he asked for the Scriptures and opened it up to Isaiah 61 “the spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, release to the prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord.” With that proclamation Jesus revealed the mission that he received from his Father. When you become aware of your mission you must find a way to diffuse it and let it bear fruit. That´s just what Jesus did, by forming the Church. Jesus first called the twelve, teaching them (and if necessary, using words) and sending them out, as he was sent by the Father. Remember he was with them for only a short time, about three years, so he had to act quickly. The church was founded for Jesus´s mission, as in the scripture passage above, please read it once more. Jesus spent his entire life on earth living out this mission. He invites you to participate in this beautiful mission, because you are the church. Maybe these past months of quarantine made us realize that the church is not a building of brick but of all of us forming one body, the body of Christ. So then what does the church do to diffuse Jesus´ mission? There are three basic elements: 1. The Church prays. 2. The Church evangelizes 3. The Church serves the poor. Better said: 1. I pray. 2. I evangelize 3. I serve the poor. Now in order to be church all three elements must be present. If you bake a cake and forget one of the ingredients, when you open the oven you will find a surprise, probably not to your liking. Too much of either one of the elements will cause an imbalance in our lives. In the following letters we´ll explore each of the elements and how keeping them in balance in our lives will bring us great joy and peace. It is the spirit who came on that first Pentecost who will inspire us to be church. May the Lord Jesus bless you and let his face smile upon you and your family, Sister Anne M. Lafferty

“So the last will be first and the first last”. -MATTHEW 20:16
You’ve heard the saying “it’s not where you start, but how you finish.” This certainly applies to this Bible passage. We have a responsibility to live Stewardship, not only for our own lives, but for the lives of others as well. Parish Information
Holy Hour of Intercession The Youth and Young Adults Office at the Diocese of Camden requested that parishes come together in Intercessory Prayers for our youth. With so many daily distractions and temptations negatively affecting the mind, body, soul and spirit of our young people, it is im-portant that we pray for healthy interactions and correct moral values in their lives. We are therefore providing time each month when parishioners can come together to pray for all children and young adults, as well as all the intentions they hold in their hearts. Our next holy hour will be determined at a later date
(the third Monday of the month),

To help your family celebrate the Generosity of God, before grace at meals, join hands and thank God for the ways in which God has entered and be-come part of your life. Thank God for the individual blessings each one has received and for the family blessings.
As a game, count your family blessings. Sit in a circle and take turns naming one blessing you have from God. For an additional challenge, use the alpha-bet; begin with a gift that begins with “A,” then “B,” and so forth. See how long you can keep going.
Practice generosity in your family. Take time to name and celebrate the gifts of each person in the family. What are ways we can encourage one anoth-er to develop our gifts?
Sometimes people become jealous of the gifts of others. Talk about ways of handling feelings of jeal-ousy. Have an open discussion about fairness in the family. Plan a family outing and spend the time enjoy-ing one another’s company.
Matthew was probably born in Galilee and was a publican tax collector at Capernaum at the time that Jesus called him. While a tax collector was a rich man, he was no more admired in ancient times than an IRS agent is admired today. The fact that Jesus chose a tax collector as a disciple shows us that he was bringing the Good News not just to the Pharisees and other self-righteous Jews, but also to the rejected people of society.
Matthew was one of the twelve Apostles, and the second Gospel is attributed to him. His Gospel was written sometime between the years 60 and 90.
The goal of Matthew’s Gospel was to convince the Jewish people that Jesus was the Messiah, that the old covenant between God and the Jewish people was being replaced by a new covenant through Je-sus, and that everyone, not just the Jewish people, was included in God’s plan for salvation.
Of the four Evangelists, only Matthew presents Jesus as a second Moses, or as a lawgiver. To the Jews of that time, the law was paramount and Matthew strove to represent Jesus as the fulfillment of the Scriptures. He gives an account of Jesus’ lineage and draws several parallels between events in the lives of Moses and of Jesus. In his account of Jesus’ birth, for example, Matthew tells of how Herod’s jealousy and hatred forced Joseph to take his family into exile in Egypt. In this way, Jesus, like Moses, came out of Egypt to save his people.
Saint Matthew is the patron saint of accountants, bankers, and bookkeepers. He is honored by a Feast celebrated on September 21.
Your Catholic Cemetery … An Essential Component of Catholic Life
As Catholics, we are blessed with the promise of life everlasting. To be with our Lord in Heaven, we are baptized, we follow the Holy Scripture, and we keep the Lord in our hearts throughout our earthly journey. Death is not the end but rather the next step. During life our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. At death we present our bodies to a sacred Catholic funeral and burial, to be prepared for the Resurrection. Just as you have chosen to be a part of a Christian community, you will want the burial of your remains to reflect that same Christian faith while choosing to rest in peace with other Christians in a Catholic cemetery. Choosing a final resting place on consecrated grounds is your choice, your privilege and the right of every Catholic, as well as a confirmation of faith in our everlast-ing union with our Lord.
